My god, even without the backup dancers and stuff, Taco manages to deliver the same amount of excitement to the viewer just by his movements alone. This is Talent!

I feel like Tacos version of this song is the benchmark of how to do a version of a song with your own spin. He maintains the integrity of the art which is most iconic (the rhythm of the lyrics, which is the standout of the piece of music), and then putting your spin on the less important parts inbetween.
It shows respect to the original work, while serving as a showcase of your own style, and its why i love both this version and the original by Irving Berlin equally

I was the sound engineer on this performance. We had to hit two pieces of wood together to make the sound of his shoes when he did the step dancing. We all stood there with our wood out - great days!

The 80s were a weirdly big time for one-hit wonders in general because that's when you started to see a heavier focus on pushing singles rather than albums for top-40 pop and rock.
Tons of top 10 hits from artists that only ever released 1 or 2 albums before disbanding
I watched his singing in the rain song before watching this, and I didn't like it.
But putting on the ritz, he's definitely got it.
He has a huge amount of music. Starting from 70s to now. Treat yourself to some great music on you tube. Several languages as well. Yes I’m a fan ❤
Mr. ..Taco actually had quite a run in other parts of the world and was only a one hit wonder in the U.S.A. due to the effects of hyper-consumerism that really started taking hold once MTV became a thing .
On the one hand it was a good
thing because it led artists to compete and constantly try upping the ante on their creativity and novelty...on the other however it caused a lot of "gems" to become relatively obscured and lost in the illusive vault of time..known only by hardcore fanbases or musical historians as they term themselves.
(Though personally I consider a Historian of any sort a mere Student of the Most Rehearsed or Well Documented Lies that Won the Popularity Contest of The Status Pro Quo.)
My personal opinion, no, he's not a one-hit-wonder. he's done other great songs too!

When I was little I've always loved this song.
I remember listening to this song around Christmas for some reason in the 80s. I remember looking forward to hearing it.

TACO is a very good artist. Puttin' On The Ritz is a very old song from the 1920s-1930s. When Rockefeller was rich from Standard Oil. The rest, you and others know why the song came about at that time in 1920 or so. That TACO did a very nice upgrade of the song Puttin' On The Ritz, and received it so well, is a very good rating from me for TACO.

I like the song because it has a funky and a cool jazzy beat in a disco style form that's when disco was slowly fading out. I still love this song 2 this very day!
