Love your videos, thank you. Reference the PS 289, sadly here in the uk it's only £20 less than the HP-CS, this is when you purchase it from uk dealers. If you get it direct from Japan it can wind up with import costs, this doesn't always happen but still, .... I'd like one, might take the risk but, for and extra £20 and a warranty, with good quick service I ended up with the Iwata HP-CS.. There are so many extra goodies and uses for it, very nice indeed. Happy painting

this is my favorite airbrush. the angled air valve is more ergonomic for me during longer sessions. i even added an iwata mini filter which made it way more comfortable.
i like that it comes with a crown cap equipped since that is a $20 upgrade from iwata.the only issue i had was the round button trigger dug into my fingertip after a while. i upgraded it to a squared micron style trigger from a takumi eclipse and i also replaced the lid with a chromed hp-cs eclipse one since its easier to clean. even with all the upgrades the total was cheaper than an msrp eclipse hp-cs while adding hp- ch features and quality.

Thank you Mark. This is my go to brush although I swapped the .3mm needle and nozzle for a .2mm . I think you can go up to .5mm with this airbrush which makes it very versatile.
I love how it feels and responds and I appreciate the mac valve as I mainly use a portable mini-compressor which has no adjustability.
I also own a H+S Evolution which I like but not as much as the PS-289.
That's more than enough airbrushes for an intermediate artist like myself😁
Great to see my main airbrush being used by an airbrush master👍✌️

So good to see all the positive reviews and comments about the 289. Your video was excellent.
My PS 289 is giving me fits. I have tried everything …Lacquers, oil based, acrylics, all types of recommended thinners for the various paint and all types of consistency, all types of air pressure regulated at the compressor, and also by the Mac valve, and I can’t get it to consistently work. I’ve taken it apart many different times, completely, stripped it down, looking for blockage, or whatever. Can’t find anything. What happens is when I apply air and then pull the needle back. Nothing happens, more needle, nothing happens, and then all the sudden boom. The paint comes out in a surge. If I use the needle limiter, I can get an initial good result but, after a minute or two, it goes into the same funky, no paint, more needle, and then boom/splatter. so frustrating.
If anyone could offer any insight, I would be highly appreciative😊

Thank you for the prompt response. I agree it sounds like something is stuck in there, but the only orifice that I can’t go to is between the main air inlet and the Mac valve. There must be a channel that I can’t access. I’ll take another look, but I don’t know what else would be out of sight that could possibly be clogged. Thank you again. You have a wonderful channel and I have subscribed!!

Question: I just bought this today on a recommendation I saw on Vince V’s channel and then watched 2 of your reviews and in both videos you mentioned Iwata is your favorite. More details on that?
I’ve only ever used and own an Iwata Eclipse and it’s good. I mainly wanted another one because I’m using enamels now as well as acrylics for mini painting and I want a separate brush for the different mediums. (Might get a 3rd for priming only but, undecided and not necessary for now).

@@theartworkshop Every comment has their own context. I suppose 270 outperforms 771 when you try to spray a larger area. But the ability of perfect atomization with low air speed from 771 won’t be beatable by 270

I wanted to get a Micron but choked on the price. Per your most excellent review I got a 771 instead. As you had said the quality appears equivalent my to Iwata at about 1/3rd of the price. I got it at Spraygunner for $175 compared to $475ish for the Micron
I wonder if Iwata found out they were pricing themselves out of the market and are producing these as a value priced alternative. Great review as always. Thx

the only problem for this comparing to iwata is that Mr Hobby Creos has more pieces when you have to clean it. The PS 289 might be a pain in the butt when you need to take it apart. Maybe that's why it cost less? idk

Hi, I'm choosing between ps-289 and eclipse hp-cs. This is not the first airbrush and not the second, I had experience with German and Chinese airbrushes, but not with Japanese ones. The task is to spray paint on the average areas of figures of scale 1:8-1:6. A torch with a diameter like h&s 0.2 will do, but h&s has a special nozzle structure that creates a very wide torch. It is important for me to know which of these two airbrushes has a wider spray spot when opening the nozzle by 60% and 100%. If we assume that ps-289 has 0.3, and eclipse has 0.35

After 30 some years I have gotten back into building plastic model kits, And I'm looking at getting me an Air Brush (no more rattle cans) But I'm not looking at doing a bunch of fine detail work which is all I see being done in these Air Brush revues, I'm looking for area coverage. For example, I have this 39" Seaview Submarine model and I want something that will allow me to paint the entire hull... Is this type of Air Brush adjustable to that kind of wide spray pattern?.. Say three or four inches in diamiter?... Any advice from anyone would be welcome

    • @theartworkshop
      @theartworkshop ปีที่แล้ว +1

Most general use airbrushes like this (with a .35 or .5mm nozzle) will work fine for that. The distance you hold the the airbrush from the surface changes the spray pattern, along with how far you pull back on the trigger. For wider spray patterns go with a bigger needle/nozzle size. Badger patriot 105 or the 360 are good options. Iwata revolution is a great choice too. If you want really wide (fan pattern), look into the iwata hp-th. Plenty of options out there.

Actually, it isn't a rumor. GSI Creos are made in the same factories as IWATA (can't remember the name). In fact, 90% of Japan's airbrush companies are made by the same machining corportation, and in the same factories. They just have different branding and slightly different specifications determined by each company. IWATA many decades ago is the company that eventually bought out Olympos, which were the best in the business, and they also bought their patents and learned alot of their manufacturing process.
TLDR: GSI Creos are on par with most of Iwatas lineup under $200. The reason a Platinum Pro Con Boy is quite a bit cheaper than an Eclipse is almost entirely due to brand name recognition, and the massive budget of marketing that Iwata has compared to Mr. Hobby line of airbrush. Especially on an international level.
