I am 33 years old today. When I was 23 I used to live in a different city where I lived 20 years of my life. I used to have a small old sedan, used to drive a lot, smoked, drunk at times with friends driving in the neighborhood and this song which I always played in loop purposely knowing the complete meaning of this song at that particular time which I wanted to freeze this song in that time.
10 years later I have switched 4 cities, having family and kids, i went back to the neighborhood in someone's car (sold my old piece 5 years back) and i played this song, you won't imagine the feeling of seeing that same old neighborhood, i could literally see myself standing and talking to my brothers and up in a smoke in another moment just like the video shows. My eyes were numb seeing that.
Indeed time flies which you will never get it back so just embrace where you are now and go one step forward with that. If you look behind you will only see this beautiful song and those moments you ever spent.

So difficult to sift through the rubble of music culture to find something truly special. I'm feeling ashamed, puzzled, saddened, and maybe just a little bit encouraged.....Finding Porcupine Tree brightens may day, and maybe my tomorrow.

Unfortunately that can't be done...so learn from your f*** ups and keep looking and driving forward. That monotonous cadence is what gives Wilson the baseline to juxtapose the subsequent jangly guitar and rise in volume and intensity against. The way he uses contrast in songs is what makes him such a good and unique artist.

I remember listening to this song when I was 17, when it first came out. Bought the record and everything. Me and my buddies listened to this song all the time as we tried to make our own little prog rock band, playing in my drummer's run down shack in the country side of Southern Italy. We never did much musically, but we had fun, met girls, fell in and out of love, got in fights. It was cool. I'm 27 now, moved far away from home in the cold north, moved in with my GF/childhood sweetheart, and got a purple belt in BJJ. When I listen to this song I remember who I used to be, and DAMN.. I barely recognize myself in the mirror. I'm gonna try to start a band again. Let's see how that goes :)

This was the song, many years ago, that first made Steven Wilson and Porcupine Tree "click" in my head and my heart. I suddenly really HEARD his voice, I really FELT the meaning, I understood all of the pain. I have been continuously listening to Steven Wilson, Porcupine Tree, and all the other bands on that web of associated artists, for almost a decade now....... has it really been that long?

    I was born in '67
    The year of Sgt. Pepper
    And are you experienced
    Into a suburban heaven
    Yeah it should've been forever
It all seems to make so much sense
    But after a while
    You realize time flies
And the best thing that you can do
Is take whatever comes to you
    'Cause time flies
She said luck is what you make it
You just reach out and take it
    Now let's dance a while
    She said nothing ever happens
If you don't make it happen
And if you can't laugh and smile
    But after a while
    You realize time flies
And the best thing that you can do
Is take whatever comes to you
    'Cause time flies
And laughing in the summer showers
That's still the way I see you now
    How does time break down
With no marker, things slow down.
    A conference of the strange
    And your family is deranged
I could tell you what I'm thinking
    While we sit here drinking
But I'm not sure where to start
You see there's something wrong here
I'm sorry if I'm not clear
Can you stop smoking your cigar
    But after a while
    You realize time flies
And the best thing that you can do
Is take whatever comes to you
    'Cause time flies
And the coat you wore to Alton Towers
Is still the way I see you now

I really can't get along with other people from my age because my puberty came 4 years earlier (special thanks to medicines for my kidneys) No-one in my class really likes me and I don't like anyone from my class. Hi fellow PT lover. After reading your post I realize my problems are small in comparison. Do not lose hope, it is not over until it's over. I can tell you have a very sensitive Spirit, as I do. The things with the classmates will pass with time, that's just how people can be at that age. I need you to understand something there is a God and he loves you very much and does not want to see you hopeless as this life is only momentary in the context of Eternity. You are braver than you think, please hang in there, things will improve. I don't care much for religion but a relationship with God is another matter altogether. Jesus Christ is the Son of God and he loves you and wants you to be with him forever. His gift is free but it is not cheap. He wrote you a love letter in blood on a wooden crossm two thousand years ago. "For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son that whoever would believe on him would not perish but have everlasting life". John 3:16. Pick up a Bible and read it will bring Comfort to you, I know this from my own experience and the lives of hundreds of others that I have seen transformed miraculously. Again I am not talking about religion, I am talking about a relationship with the true and living God who gave his own life so that we may live. Peace to you if you ever need to talk please feel free to message me.
      Sincerely,
      A Friend

The one that makes you think he didn't exists. Also isn't a true god. he makes you think God wants to make you suffer but isn't, its kind of a really long talk but i'll resume a lot. Satan is the reason why God permit the suffering in this world.

I wish someone had collared me at 12 years old--grabbed me by the neck and hissed, "PAY ATTENTION TO THIS." Knowing how I was, he or she would need to repeat this procedure often during my adolescence, and plenty during my twenties, then again in my thirties. There is nothing in our lives--often not even death--that can prepare us for the serious business and absolute necessity of paying attention to our own lives, of squeezing every minute out of it, and gracing it with as much of our presence as possible. If you won't believe your mother, believe me--I'm nearing 60--it's not the long lost years that torment. It's wondering where the hell you were while they flew by.

If you are not having an armchair, air-guitar moment at the epic moments of track... you know..... that uncontrollable, spontanious impulse thrash around 2:21 in, with your best 'rock god' teeth baring grimace and you strumming hand flailing like a errant windmill, you must be a rhythmicly deficient, turnip licking stump kicker of a human to not be moved by this. My sympathies to you and superb Kudos to Porcupine Tree. Well played Sir.
