  • Skyline Trail to Big Dipper to Orion is an intermediate ski run located at Heavenly Mountain Resort. The trails run from the summit of the Sky Express chairlift, the highest point of the resort, down to the bottom of the Dipper and Comet Express chairlifts and the East Peak Lodge, connecting the California side of the resort with the Nevada side. The run begins to the skier's right of the top of the chairlift on Skyline Trail, a narrow and flat traverse that traverses across the top of the mountain, passing across the border into Nevada. The trail eventually merges onto Big Dipper, a wide-open trail that features a consistent pitch. At the next intersection, I stayed to the left to ski onto Orion, passing underneath the Dipper Express and into one final dip before arriving at the East Peak Lodge.
Heavenly Mountain Resort is a ski area located in South Lake Tahoe, California, and Stateline, Nevada. The resort is located in both El Dorado County, California, and Douglas County, Nevada, on the south edge of Lake Tahoe, making it one of only three ski resorts in the United States to be located in two different states. The resort is located about an hour's drive south of Reno, a 40-minute drive southwest of Carson City, a 2-hour drive east of Sacramento, a 3-hour drive northeast of San Fransico/Oakland, and a 3-hour 45-minute drive northeast of San Jose. Heavenly is known for its large variety of intermediate and advanced terrain with some of the best views of nearby Lake Tahoe and is a popular destination for skiers from Northern California due to its close proximity to major metro areas such as the San Fransico Bay Area and Sacramento. The resort is owned by Vail Resorts and is therefore a destination on the company's Epic Pass.
