I don’t believe the phrase ‘you stray, you pay’ was intended as an admission. It seemed more like a statement implying, ‘that’s the consequence of going to someone else.’ I interpret it as meaning that the previous stylist damaged her hair, and he had to do what he could to fix it.
I see where you're coming from, and you may be right, but I don't think that was the intent. I think his follow up private message was a chance to back track after realizing he shouldn't have said that
I actually know 2 hairdressers that have done this. They were so irritated that their clients went to someone else, they "accidentally" left product in their clients hair in order to "teach them a lesson". They joked about it while drunk and later confirmed the story was true. I couldn't believe it😮. With the Defendant saying, "you stray you pay and at least we got all the crap hair off" is pretty damaging too. He only denied it later because he realized he admitted in the text that he did it on purpose. He definitely bleached the fock out of her hair because he was irritated. Then he apologized when he realized he screwed up by admitting it.
then he told Doug, "i wish she had come back SO I COULD FIX WHAT I HAD DONE'.....dont get much more guilty than that!! so now 'you play you pay' bounced off her and stuck to him!!!
ive been a victim of this too but whats worse she decided to teach me a lesson a day before a special event so i couldnt fix it in time, had to put my hair in an updo to hide it and never ever went back to her after i found out she did it on purpose which was what i suspected.
My daughter is a hairdresser for 32 years and this happens alot and she's always saying what will happen with colours etc and then complain not paying for it and she actually installed cameras and clients didn't have a leg to stand on!
I don’t agree with JM saying that you can’t mention gender on a case like this. The reality is, women have a strong tie to the hair on their head, and this crosses all races and cultures. When hair is cut or burned off maliciously, that is a very traumatic experience. It’s not as easy for women as it is for men to just get a buzz cut and start over. Having hair fall out is very scary, and can really harm self esteem. Just ask women who go through chemo.
She's a charmer, adorable. I remember Jerseylicious she would have been one of the top girls on the show. Too bad she didn't make it, they might still be making season 19 if she would have been on that reality show.
IMO, the defendant acted immature and it cost him a long time customer and $2800.00. it's a business and should not be personal. She couldn't get an appointment with you so she went somewhere else.
I equate "You stray, you pay" as meaning "if you have liked my services for years and then go somewhere else and have bad results that's what you get.".
She gave that evil look because she didn't like it when Judge MM went off on her and told her to butch up before the verdict😂😂😂.. if looks could kill!!
Ugh! OF COURSE, JM doesn’t understand his phrase! She’s clueless about so many topics, it’s both amazing & entertaining to me!!! His comment to her is a joke I’ve heard stylists say in a salon when a beautician will tell a client who is there getting their hair color corrected cause another stylist did it! I guarantee he didn’t mean it the way the defendant is implying (who doesn’t strike me as very bright anyway!!) Cause why would he INTENTIONALLY mess her hair up knowing she could slam him on FB potentially ruining possible future customers??? She must have liked his work though in the past since she’s used him for awhile!! (Unfortunately for him, I guarantee JM won’t remind the Plaintiff of that little fact!)
I cried when my hair was burnt off by a "stylist". Women have a strong tie to their hair, it's almost like a crown, it's a symbol of our femininity. (Not all women but a lot of us)
He was a fool for writing that, but he didn’t mean sabotage, it’s a tongue in cheek saying, but wow she is blaming him for the harsh treatments she’s inflicting on her own hair. The photos we saw did not show the problems she was saying she had. And look what she chose to do to her hair for court, she’s over processing it to smithereens
I’ve had clients who may have been grandfathered in with prices. But when they leave and decided to come back, they now have to pay the new prices. You stray….you pay! But I would never intentionally damage anyones hair. I would never want to ruin my reputation!
Thank God the judge didn't fall for the plaintiff's "I'm just a poor woman" routine. We women need to make up our minds. Are we as strong and tough as any man, or do we whine and cry over a bad hair day?
Hairstylist here: I know of other stylists who may not purposely butcher someone's hair, but they will say, "Oh, you went to someone else, and they messed you up. It's going to cost X money over X amount of time for me to fix you up." Yet the client's hair is totally fine. A former coworker would do that to my clients who would see him because I was busy... then they'd come right back and say, "I think he's trying to get more money out of me. Please dont book me with him ever." So it's a petty world out here.
Defendant is a jerk. He's STILL seething. And the plaintiff shouldn't have to pay for his botched job! And it's okay to say you're a woman and it sucks how horrible you feel about a botched job, that doesn't weaken you as a woman.
People responding in anger or in a negative manner on social media is the dumbest thing in the world to do. Unfortunately, too many people do this. From trolls who have nothing better to do, to people who don't like you for not following what the believe or like, to those who just blow up for no reason. We live in the society now of people who are easily triggered. And this all goes back to the foolishness that some do on social media. We have political figures who are supposed to be adults, whining and crying on platforms like little babies. Ridiculous
Yikes - he says he's a second generation hairdresser. I wonder what his parents think of him intentionally sabotaging a client. edit - actually at the end of the case he repeats the line 'you stray, you pay.' Maybe he learned that from his parents.
Imagine if other industries were like this. You like your restaurant server and ask for them when you want to eat, but they can't seat you. You go to a different doctor for a second opinion. Your favorite teacher has a sick day and there's a substitute..... Imagine any of these people coming back and saying you stray you pay.
Being professional is asking your client every time if she/he has had their hair done by someone else and ask what they did so that way you know how to handle their hair based on what they did.
I thought at first the plaintiff was going to lose, how was she going to prove he messed up her hair on purpose, and then a twist of fate, she actually had proof!! 😂😅
I got hair extensions once, NEVER AGAIN, they hurt and yank your existing hair out and I dreaded washing them cuz they fell out, they were clamped with little pieces of something, don’t know how the newest glue ones are, but will probably never find out, it all gives u an actual HEADACHE FOR DAYS!
Why should she have to change her appearance though? She likes her hair long, in any other type of case when someone damages something they have to fix it to how it was. So hair extensions is part of putting her hair back how it was. Extensions are not easy to maintain either like your normal hair, and they can be painful initially. So if you say she has to put up with short hair does she get compensation until her hair grows back the same length which will be a couple of years? The law is there to make you whole again, having the extensions makes her whole again.
So the man can make a poor joke “you stray you pay” and then she says imagine you’re a woman and then says you know what I mean! Clearly the guy was just giving her some shit for not going to him exclusively. She deserved nothing.
If she was familiar with the process and I believe she was, then why did you not say anything for two hours… that’s hard to believe! I have been having color and highlights for years and the longest I have ever set for processing hair is 45 minutes max. That was a tough one Judge.
She acts like she is a handful and using those woman empowerment comments, so I can see how he would get frustrated with her. Plus hair dressers go through a lot with customers to try and make them happy!
She's a hairdresser herself and willingly sat there for hours with bleach on her head?...I can't agree that it's all his fault.
Who.sits down for 2 hours with bleach in their head??
Right? When my head starts to burn I'd pipe up to the stylist about it. 😮😮😮
I don't think she had bleach on her hair for 2 hours. Likely she was in the salon for 2 hours, which is nothing when you're getting multiple services.
Boy, the steam coming out of this guys ears... never saw anyone purse their lips so much and so tightly! He is still pissed!

Yeah, but then he said he did it on purpose in his next reply...
Yep.
He wasn't good enough when she went elsewhere but was good enough for her problem?
I highly doubt that he meant it that way.
I truly think he did it on purpose.
