We need to talk about that intro jam. I lost my mom about 9 months ago, and for whatever reason, your playing just punched me right in the gut, and it's taken some time for me to regain my composure. I will have to come back for the rest of the video another time.
Studios are hilariously overlooked. Love my SC594, but I’d just as happily play a Studio. Insanely versatile. Great instrument for multiple genres. Definitely a “studio” instrument
Like many guitarists, I started on a fender, then caught the gibson bug and am now searching for something in-between… the studio really intrigues me. I hope they make an SE version, I need something that’s affordable enough to be giggable 220+ times a year without too much fear of accident or it getting stolen
Bought one of the 35th anniversary custom 24 guitars about a year ago. Since then I’ve barely touched the other guitars I own. It just does everything so well. Feel, intonation, tone. Leaves everything else for dust.
Have a PRS 10top custom 24 from 2009, expensive at the time but a great range of tones. Generally sits in the cupboard after purchasing a classic vibe strat HSS model. Other favourite an SA360 Ibanez.
My brother has a Custom 24, and one of the previous goldtop Studio models. He says the bridge humbucker in the Studio has the best tone of either of his PRS guitars and is also better than the burstbuckers in his Les Paul, but he does not like the narrowfield pickups at all. He says they don't sound like humbuckers or single coils, so if you are wanting to recreate a particular tone you probably need to use a different guitar. They are definitely their own thing. As usual, Pete manages to make them sound great, possibly due to his rig and the fact he is not playing any "covers" !
I have an S2 studio and it sounds just as good. Couldn't imagine paying a couple extra thousand for more aesthetic vibe. The pickups are an upgrade, sure. But honestly the S2 pickups growl and sing like crazy. Very nuanced and well rounded pickups.
I quite like the Studio but I prefer the Special. I have a 2019 Limited Edition Special - before they made it part of the core line up - and its truly a Special instrument... The main difference is that the Special has a Humbucker in the neck that can be split and the 'middle' position gives you both neck and bridge rather than the NF. Of course its a Semi-hollow too so generally lighter too...
@@jimmyparris9892 At the end of the day, its up to the individual and their situation. Its individual to all. I don't think they are that 'expensive' considering they are made 'better' than Gibson/Fender (inc Custom Shop) and can be cheaper. A Gibson R9 costs more than a PRS 594 - similar guitars, just one has a 'longer' history and charge you more for that. Guitars, especially high end, are meant for 'life', to see you through 'thousands' of hours of gigging, rehearsals, practices, jamming etc. Of course they need 'maintaining' as well - like a car does, but if you break it down to 'cost per hour', they can be a LOT cheaper than going to the pub, cinema on a night out. Some spend more on a holiday and its over in a week or two - yet your guitar can still bring your joy and happiness 10yrs from now - and it will still be 'worth' something - maybe more than you paid, so you haven't 'lost' that money you 'invested' into your guitar. If your time is limited/valuable, why spend it having to constantly 'tune', can't use the trem in case it goes out of tune, having to do a set-up because the neck has 'moved' due to weather/temp etc. Why not spend your valuable time playing the 'best', most stable, most consistent and one of the most playable guitars you can? The more you play and enjoy your instrument, the 'cost per hour' of joy its brought is constantly dropping and it will last you a lifetime - they are not 'disposable' items so its also not as if that money is 'all' gone, some is still tied up in the instrument that you can recuperate by selling/trading...
Saw the title and thought "why? Do desert islands have an excessive 60 cycle hum problem that we don't know about?" I would counter that the "perfect" desert island guitar would be the one that Ace Freely used to play in Kiss... with the neck pickup that could light up like a flare and create a cloud of smoke. :D
Ah. And then. You can spare half a lung, hop around on one leg, have a second needless eye, a long piece of gut you can do without and which guitarist does need more than half a brain? So much payment option The Cap could accept ... As long a he leaves you with two arms, two hands, 10 fingers and some piece of neck to strap the guitar on to ...
Pete sort of proves my point. Characteristically, his does sound very stratty. Only if you do the Pepsi Challenge and A/B them on the spot does it not sound like that anymore. But in the context of a live performance? You get away with it all day long as long as you sound good and capture in some way, the character of the tone.
I've been subscribed to this channel since Rob and Lee did their first video. Slash Video!! I try not to miss any and I always watch till the end. I miss Pete and Mic guitar paradiso so much and the hawiian shirts.
Can you make a comparison about Single Coil alternatives like: G&L MFD pickup (the small Classic and the wide Special version), P90 variations, Narrowfield and others ...? That would be stellar! Maybe in a blind test -- oh no, that's boring. Rob will just shout out the names of the guitars and tell you which he played when... ;-)
£2000 of stomp pedals and a Circa £2000 amp would make even my first Les Paul Copy sound awesome! So many reviews awash with effects on TH-cam. Does sound good though 👍🏼
Any hope to have the CEs before this autumn? I bought a CE24 in Eriza Verde, but the last update was a bit sad...5 more months before getting my hands on it! :P
For me I am yet to own a PRS but too me it is a Dream Guitar situation and personally I think dessert island guitar is specific to the individuals players need… but to me, it would be a PRS CE24 or Custom 24/08
What is that red number indicator on the right of the screen at the back in these videos? I'm sure it's something obvious but so far I haven't figured it out.
Yes... I was going to say that. I have a PRS NF3 which has the narrowfield pu's .. the volume control really does voice the guitar in many great ways. I totally dig it.
It’s almost always the nut and almost never the tuners (you aren’t pulling the string out of the hole it’s threaded through and that is the only part “locked”).

That is one sweet guitar!! It checks all of the boxes on the desirability checklist! I want....... I will have to steal someone's college funds to afford it!

The perfect desert Island guitar is acoustic! Cheers Captain and Pete!!
If the desert island doesn’t have a solar powered generator and a deluxe reverb, you just have to start swimming and take your chances. 😉
