I have severe big toe arthritis and sesomotitis, got shots, the best thing I’ve tried so far are dancers pads, better then cortisone shots it off loads the big toe when you walk, it is a lifesaver!
I have had hallux rigidus since my thirties. I was just told to wear rocker shoes. Now I’m in physical therapy because my left heel hurts all the time, as well as my right toe. I found I have an extra bone in my ankle, which could be causing some of these issues. I discovered I don’t walk heel to toe, as I avoided bending my toe. Now I’m trying to learn how to walk properly.
Thank you. I love Brad and Mike I use horribly expensive Hoka shoes and the reason is that the inside cushioning is the best. I have a lot of arthritis but I walk for exercise. Hoka has wide toe box AND cushioning. I used to wear Altra due to wider feet but not enough cushioning for current arthritis situation.
Brooks Adrenaline or Brooks Ghost are also good options. I prefer the former as the toe box is slightly wider. They aren’t as expensive as HOKA’s. I still have to use my custom orthotics.
I have severe arthritis in my toe. I don't have swelling, but I do have extreme pain. I can't even begin to try these. But thank you for showing that there is something that you can do. I wish I had seen this before it got severe
I have tried quite a few different shoes to help my hallux rigidus. So far the Hoka Bondi 8 has given me the most relief. Plenty of cushion, a lower drop of 5mil.(which helps the metatarsals) and stiff sole. Wish the toe box was a bit wider but still it has let me walk, run and be on my feet all day relatively pain free. For me it is the stiffer sole and lower heel to toe drop on a shoe that seems to help the most. Hope this helps someone!
It’s a battle against time. Stay away from implants. Fusion is the gold standard if required. Mine still hurts though and I had the titanium plate removed. Waiting to get other big toe fused. Tough recovery heel walking for 5 - 6 weeks.
Thanks for this info guys I've had bunions for years and currently have braces on both feet to help correct and prevent further harm (not just for bunions). This is helpful info and feels good. Can only stand for couple hours, and have to sit down, due to the intense pain and burning sensations on the right foot. Going to try this exercise and see if it doesn't help. 😊 Thanks again.
I’ve always had wide fitted shoes and I’m not one for high heels but I do think that maybe the tights I used to wear actually pulled my toes in. I’ve changed to wearing socks and if possible men’s size ones because they nearly always shrink!

I am struggling with this exact pain. I practice martial arts and I hit my toes constantly... I am having problems finding wide tow box shoes that are bot barefoot. Especially, other types of shoes that are not sneakers. Something I can wear to work. Do you have any suggestions?
HOKA is the best. I have had one toe fused and the other to be done. On-line and some stores. Very popular. Large toe box and rigid sole with correct height taking pressure off the toe. I use Clifton and Bondi. Plus good orthodics.
This shit hurts like a bitch. I broke my 2nd, 3rd & 4th metatarsal 8 weeks ago. Started walking 2 weeks ago and the fracture itself is doing well, BUT, Im getting this horrible pain in the joint mentionned here. If ever I step on my toe with my foot lifted, Im down for the day from the pain and swelling. 😭

Thank you! Can that happen in middle toe?
Thanks Mike!
Arthritis for me. Thanks for the tips! ☺️
Thank You
What about people who wear steel toe work boots 12 + hrs a day?
I have rigid toe, will these exercises work for me to help it?

Good.
I got a metal plate in the bottom of my shoe and that help my pain a lot...
Mulțumesc

It’s probably from high heels. Virtually every women I know has bunions from wearing this ridiculous footwear.
Please recommend wide toe box shoes that have some cushioning. I don't want to go completely barefoot. Thanks
Altra and Topo athletic
What about Hallux varus post bunionectomy years later. Big toe moving outward. Can’t find stretches.
The arch of my left foot hurts a lot. It's toward the right of the foot. What would that be?
