I will be picking up my puppy in 4 weeks time so, I'm trying to learn as much as possible. This is an EXCELLENT video. I have NEVER heard of using corn powder ("cornstarch" in the U.S.) in that manner. Genius! That scissors technique is, too.
Thank you so much for making this video. Great job.👍

Ah thanks so much - enjoy your new baby, take them out and about as much as possible in the first 16 weeks of life.

As a new Havi mom myself, her videos have been some of the most helpful. She's a treasure! All the best to you and your new Havi puppy!

@@AuLily1 Well, she's not so new anymore. She's 9 months old now and 14 lbs. She was spayed 2 weeks ago and had the stitches taken out yesterday with a clean bill of health. She's our "Oreo" dog because of her black/white/black/white/ banding but, we named her Rosie.
A lot of good information here.

Goodness, thank you so much for this amazing tip. I’ve liked and have subscribed. I’ve now watched three videos and wish I had found you before.

    Nice work
Best video on the Havanese matting I have found so far.
Our almost 1 year old has beautiful long coat, but we have problems with as soon as you put a colar or harness on her its just about guaranteed to get matting in that area.
Your video will help to keep her full coat and not have bits missing like we have now 😊
    Thanks

I wish you were in my area! I groom my girl myself because all professional groomers just want to shave her. They have a fit and tell me there's no way to get those mats out. I just spent about 40 hours last week getting all her winter shed out. I prop myself up on my bed with my big baby in my lap and watch shows on my phone while we work. She loves it and hates it all at the same time... and so do I 😅 But the beautiful results afterwards are worth it!

Your videos have been so helpful in grooming my sweet Havi puppy boy. He's just turned a year old and is blowing his puppy coat. It's been challenging but your advice has been invaluable in helping us through the process. It will be so great when this period of transition is completed. I'm so glad I found you. I'm surprised you don't have more subscribers as your videos are exemplary.

I just discovered your wonderful videos. This is off topic, but what do you recommend for shears, to trim her feet, and also to use to break down mats. I'm think a 6.5" curved one, and maybe a straight one for the mats??? Does this make sense? Can you recommend some sizes and brands? My girl is 9-1/2 months old, and I'm showing her. She just recently started getting mats on a daily basis.

Yes I prefer curved for round the feet, you can also break up the matts using the curved scissors as you are just doing a downward movement through the Matt. Your girl is going through puppy coat change so just bear with it it will get better.

@@allthingshavanese9601 Thank you for your reply, and your encouragement. We have discussions every night at the grooming table, and I keep telling her that mats are NOT ACCEPTABLE, but she never wants to talk about it! ;)

My 5 month Milo has teeny tiny knots on his mustache near his nose. I believe this was from a particularly messy treat he was given that was white. His muzzle is white so I did not notice until bathing and drying him today. I got a couple knots out, but gave him a break because I am still training him to be good about grooming and didn't want to have a bad memory. Do you have any suggestions for working these tiny knots out? They are about the size of a small ladybug. :-) (Posted as well on the brushing video)

I did do the above technique with trying to separate the knots and it helped some, but since the bone was peanut butter flavor it was sticky. It's like trying to get out gum.

For sticky knots I would start with the scissor technique being careful near the tongue, slide down through the knot to break it up and then use the finest comb you have to comb it out.
