The answer is, "Yes."
You're right... maybe I should have made a 2 second short with your answer instead of a 9 minute video lol... hopefully the explanations given inspire some new people to play the game. The more people who play it the better
Imagine wanting to play a single player version of Dark & Darker for more than a year. Then you find out about this ancient game that was remade but even in it's ancient form it scratched the same itch. Mind blown
all things considered this ancient game is quite awesome! It has plenty of flaws but is also really great in its own way! even better if you are willing to mod it
I love this game found out about it a few months ago and it is already my favourite elder scrolls game
NICE! It's a great game for sure... It can have its frustrating moments but the level of freedom you have to create the character you want and then play in the style you want is great! And dungeon diving is a blast... even if I do sometimes get lost lol
voxel daGGERFALL WIL HELP ALOT with models
Thanks! We completed the game finally and it was hella fun! I am pretty satisfied with the modlist we used... and there is of course a retro version available now for any who prefer that
With DREAM and a few other mods, definitely. I will say that it's difficult to do stuff as a vampire. Traveling safely doesn't always mean you get there at night.
Not the Steam version but the Unity version definitely is recommended it’s still janky as fuck though.
I haven't found it to be all that janky.... The worst thing is maybe some enemies getting stuck on doors at times. I am playing with mods though so maybe that fixes the jankiness you're speaking of
@@Lorespire I'm not sure honestly I don't have any mods personally installed in the Unity version I have it's a HUUUUUUGE upgrade from the steam version because that is just borderline unplayable tbh but it's still kinda weird on the control scheme that makes it a bit janky to play I feel it's still a solid experience once you can get past it though.
If you can see the value in the game, without discrediting it because of its graphics? Yes. Absolutely yes. Daggerfall is better than most games, it just looks like it's in alpha still haha.
Foreshadowing about TES2 ending - there is no Talos in Daggerfall, there are only 8 divines, imperials dont exist as a sepperate ethnic identity and orsimer are treated as less than argonian
Great review.
Enjoying your playthrough a bunch!
Thanks Toquer! Definitely appreciate it... I'm going to try to get the playthrough back to streaming again this weekend. Hope to see you there!
I like this video.
Thanks so much! hopefully it helps some people find Daggerfall for the first time.
I also like this video
ive been playing morrowind and thinking of trying this but this video convinced me not to, seems way too big and complicated and overwhelming, i dont want to scroll through 800 options in every menu
???
Daggerfall is substantially simpler than Morrowind. Most of the game is provedurally generated, with very little characterization outside of the main quest. Most of it is also given to you outright at certain time threshholds, as opposed to you needing to go there on your own.
Character gen is also much less varied. Yeah, the traits are neat, but they are functionally the precursor to birthsigns. There're also far fewer weapons and armor.
glad the video helped you... the game is free to play so you wouldn't be losing much but the menus can be a bit cumbersome.... it takes some getting used to... the story eventually becomes ok but is never great... The dungeon diving is hella fun and the character creation is phenomenal.... if you do play you should do yourself a favor and use a guide if you want to complete the story.... the character creation and dungeon diving are its strongest features. I did enjoy it quite a bit but it is NOT for everyone. I am now Playing Morrowind for the first time and it is MUCH better IMO. Story Wise it is the best in the series and mechanics wise it could be argued to be the best in the series or not depending on what you value. Daggerfall is definitely much more niche and I think Morrowind is something every true RPG fan can enjoy. To each their own... THanks for watching and for the support
I think character creation is great.... perhaps advantages and disadvantages are simply the pre cursor to birth signs but they are deeper and allow for much more customization than birth signs..... that being said you are correct in saying daggerfall is much simpler. At its best it is a dungeon dive that is alot of fun with a difficult to follow main quest. I still think i is pretty fun and very worth playing for Elder Scrolls Fans and Retro RPG fans
Love seeing DFU content!
Yeah, the game is alot of fun. I actually had this planned for a while but then decided the WR content should come first because of the Kickstarter. anyways, glad you enjoyed it
Easily my favorite ES game.
Im considering giving it a go now. Any advice?
In terms of character creation? I'd definitely recommend looking up some basic guides. The game does a pretty poor job of explaining stats and mechanics.
IT's been pretty great for me so far.... its crazy to play it and better realize just how watered down some of the RPG aspects have become in later ES games... I mean I had the knowledge that was the case before but you gotta play it to really understand
IF being Overpowered is your objective I definitely suggest taking Solid Snek's advice... it's probably a good idea if you just don't want to be frustrated in the beginning. I'm going to make a tips video that will hopefully provide the advice you are looking for, but for now I would say if you want to play a mage then taking the spell absorption and extra magicka advantages in character creation is a really good idea. Then if you get fireball early on you can restore your magicka with fireball via spell absorption while putting out some pretty good damage.
I've heard hand to hand combat is really strong so you could go that route if you don't want to play a mage. You can restore your health and magicka through resting which is basically the only way you can make it through the opening dungeon unless you just run by everything. get a cart early to carry your goods around, especially if you have low strength. Don't be afraid to get a bank loan to gear up. Only borrow what you need to buy what you want... you can make money pretty quick in dungeons to pay off the loan. Gold has weight so try to leave your gold in the bank if you don't need it, but be aware you will only be able to retrieve your gold from the same bank you store it in.
IF you are looking for something in a town ask an NPC where it is... sometimes they don't have an answer but if they give you a direction to travel you can just spam the ask button until they mark it on your map.
There is a fast travel option to travel recklessly. It does get you there faster but you will sometimes arrive during the night and have to wait until daybreak to enter a city if it has walls. This can result in you being attacked by Bandits or in some cases ghosts. IF you aren't on a time limit it's usually best not to travel recklessly. Speaking of traveling... if you travel to a new province it can be best to travel to a port town in the province. That should allow you to use the ship option in fast travel which generally saves time.
There are secret doors in dungeons that you can see on your map of the dungeon even though you might not notice on the wall so check your map carefully for spots that could be secret doors. Also in dungeons bumping into table or interacting with torches or other things can open secret paths.
Most locked doors can be opened by repeatedly attacking them. Watch your stamina bar... if it runs completely out you will become unconsious. if that happens while swimming you will die and if it happens in a dungeon or around enemies you can also die. There is a spell to restore stamina that I suggest getting as soon as you can if you are using magic. You can buy spells from any mages guild.
Hope this helps! Be sure to come back and let us know what you think of the game once you get a good ways into it
@@davidburnett5049 Oh, also join the mages guild to get the recall, levitation and water breathing spells, basic utility stuff for any dungeon. Cure disease is also essential.
It is
yes, it is
Very epic video. My only critique is that as a first time player, you shouldn't be playing modded, you should've played vanilla for a first play through (not necessary to complete the whole game ofc, just so you get a feel for the original game)
5:14 is from a mod. There are no text events in the base game iirc.
Climbing is the best skill to have imo, shame it was never implemented in the later games.
My original intent was to pay the game unmodded but everyone I asked suggested I should just add the mods for the improved experience right away. I did run the first dungeon unmodded before modding the game, but that was it. Anyways, I have really enjoyed the game so far and don't have any regrets.
You've likely already heard of The Wayward Realms, but if you haven't check it out. There is a Kickstarter going on for it right now and they are including climbing in their game. Anyways, thank you for chiming in and for the support
Thats an opinion
Thanks for the shout out! Great video!
Thank you for the amazing modlist! I have now completed Daggerfall and had a great time playing it for the First time in 2024 using your modlist and I highly recommend it to other first time players
There is a multiplayer mod....
haven't played it but I hear it is great
Thx ! I'll try it.
It is definitely worth trying, especially since it is free! I suggest using a guide if you want to complete the story quest line... it is confusing and requires some things that are arbitrary but beyond the main quest it is hella fun to just explore what is possible for character creation and dungeon diving freestyle is pretty great
