you fellers are fun to watch, howdy from hangtown california the heart of the motherlode. i am actually a 1850 type of miner, i own a original 1850 gold mine,35 acres of rock and rattlesnakes i work the mine when i want to,its blasted hot right now too hot to swing a pick.the creeks out here dry up this time of year thats why hangtown is called dry diggins.... my favorite 1850 gold pan is a cast iron frying pan, which is what most 49rs used,, I notice you guys ain't wearing pistols must be a Australian law or something. I always wear a 44 for claim jumpers or mountain lions. click my big green G for how us 49rs operate
OLD 49r TIP.. when the miners from china were here they used flat bedrock to chisels riffles into the rock making a permanent sluice box and they are still here, ive used them often in weber creek and hangtown creek. imagine a 150 year old sluice box
    modern chisels make them deeper

I've been trying to concentrate gold with a 45. A 45° Bucket that is.
Find a place in the stream where you can tip a bucket and have the water swirl in the bucket and overflow. Create a vortex.
Now spend a half hour slowly shovelling dirt into the bucket and let the water wash away anything light.
After a while you will have nothing left but black sand and heavies. It works amazingly well with the right water flow.

I use the 'river-as-a-sluice' idea as a quick'n'dirty test for gold dust.
Find a flat rock with some water flow over it and drop a small scoop on it.
Wait a moment and in the sunlight if there's gold it sure shows itself.
Very fast testing however is susceptible to false signals from Pyrites and Mica, etc.

And if you do have Gold that you take in and sell, what kind of taxes/witholdings are taken there before you get your money in hand and is your earnings taxed at a higher rate due to you being self employed and selling your stuff through the internet? That to me would help figure out the tales of the 2 sides of the coin to know which is the better value for time? And I am strange... my favorite is a cold spaghetti sandwich.

$23 an hour here is nothing. Rent is on avarage $600 per week for a 3 bedroom house. Milk is about $5.

Hey Vo-Gus I've been getting into prospecting the last year and I really wanna start a TH-cam to share my adventures. But I cant agree on a name and I love the one you came up with (Rat Shit Gold). Idk why but I feel obligated to ask if I can use it, it's such an awesome name I love it 😅

Are you trying to entice more people to move to Australia? LOL
My favorite sandwich is whichever type is prepared by someone else. I can cook all kinds of gourmet dishes with no problem, but I hate having to make my own sandwiches. Somehow they never taste as good.

Sooo... You went back to the "flat bottomed pan" in the vid. Does that mean that "to make wages" it's better than the Batea pan? Comments on relative utility?

Horses for courses. You only have so much energy and a pan that you can put 3 to 5 shovels in uses a lot of energy

@@VoGusProspecting You're right of course. For a hobby miner it really doesn't matter a few percentage points one way or the other. An individual guy without machines is never going to be more than an artisan miner - in the "first world" at least.
