Very nice video, very informative. Inexpensive SIM cards for IoT usage are tough to come by. Keep broadcasting!!

Can I ask a question about the arduino UNO? Will it start working as soon as power is applied to it, or does it take some time (lag) for it to boot up when power is applied?
My thinking is: I'd like to use this contraption for a door alarm. I want a battery powered, text message door alarm that sends a text message to my phone if a door is opened by someone other than me.
My idea is to have a switch in such a position that if someone opens the door without disconnecting the switch first (like an intruder who doesn't know about the alarm) the button on the switch will be depressed and make the arduino and gsm module send the text message.
However, if the Arduino has to have a battery connected at all times. I will be running to this door all the time to change batteries on it.
So could I also make a switch that closes the power circuit when the door is opened and the arduino will still send the text message?
As in, when the door is closed, there is no power from the battery pack ti the arduino, so it's in a "rest mode" of sorts. But power is applied when a switch is depressed by opening the door.
    Will this work?

Seriously a superb and very clear to follow video - THANK YOU!
Is there any way to get it to repeat the message send without having to re-upload? the code doesn't appear to make this loop for me? I'm so new it hurts but I'm learning coding from your tutorials so any direct help would be great. Thank you again for sharing!

Great video again. Question where did you get the simcard and did you do a lost of research to finde the most inexpensive deal.
Dont you need any other subscription to send sms or mms? Is is good only in Finland?

Hej Nicklas! I bougt my SIM card from a kiosk nearby. I wanted it to be a prepaid card so that those 4$ would be the only cost that is to come. At the settings of the card it is importatnt to remove the PIN code asking. And it is important to supply the correct voltage (with my module 5V) and to be prepared to supply at least 1A of current.
From your name I assume that you could be from Sweden. The SIM800L shoud work with Swdish SIM cads: elektronikforumet.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=81681#p1224808

    hello,
I am on a project to send an image captured in MMS using sim900 GPRS Shield Arduino Uno. But I am not sure if this device can do it for me, because , though I have searched for tutorials I can only find for SMS not MMS. If so can you send me the code?
Thanks for dedicating your time for my question.

It does not work for me unfortunately.
I dont understand why it does not work for me as I have done (I think) everything you have suggested.
It doesnt give me the correct "+CMGS:15" message, but it gives ERROR many times or another message.
Also, the light on the sim800L board blinks 8 times with a frequency of 1 Hz, and then waits two seconds, and does it again.
    What am I doing wrong?
    Kind regards.

I'm VERY new to arduino but have 2 quick questions... 1) why does the programme only work once (for me), before I have to re upload it to the arduino to allow the SMS to be sent again?
    2) why does the program only work when it is connected to the my PC and 9V battery? Can the arduino and module not just run off the battery?
    any help is appreciated :)

I'm glad that your module works! Well done! 1) Some of the programs of the video are such that the message will be sent only once. Try altering the program. 2) The power from the PC USB port isn't much enough for the module. Thank you for your feedback!
