Is that the final boss of the extra content the developers were supposedly working on? The Chimera and the Lumberjack looked demon-inspired as well, but I doubt they were one.

It's Touhou Project?
This game was very clearly inspired by 90s arcade shooters. I don't think Touhou is from the 90s, but it is the same 'bullet hell' genre.

Maybe the chimera is hard mode's true final boss, just like the final level of normal mode is super easy but the stage before it is quite hard.
