John, these shots are MAGNIFICENT!! Absolutely beautiful! I’ll be watching this one again (maybe a few times!). It has such a meditative feel to it. So peaceful and calm. Thank you.
Hi John another fantastic video. the shot I was waiting for was the moon nestled in the dip between the two mountains on Araan but possibly wrong time of year.
Being in the right place at the right time is all well and good, but it’s what you do when you get there. And I don’t think you could do better than this Sir. As usual inspirational for everyone no matter how skilled or otherwise. Thank you for this and giving us reason to look forward to a Sunday.
My Local stomping ground, John, I was there just the other Evening for Sunset, It has been a while since I went for Sunrise, it looked Beautifully quiet and Atmospheric.
thanks Chris. Yeh, the harbour is about half way between the castle and the old pier. Great location; I'll definitely be back before the end of the year.
Clear skies, and the moon setting in the right location and time. A lot had to come together to pull this off! Very nice! I have taken lots of shots of Arran at sunset, and the obvious temptation is to go panoramic to capture all the mountain scenery and red/orange colours. But the shot I liked best was at 14:20 - the portrait shot. That'll give me something new to aim for! And yes ... the rocks at the end do mirror the island, bizarre! 🙂
@@mattchristie1810 thanks Matt! I was very lucky with the conditions. Plan on trying again when the moon sets a little further south over the mountains. No doubt it'll be raining heavily next time and i'll miss it!
thanks! The moon details were from the same single exposure as the foreground. (1/50s, f8, 100 ISO) I think because the contrast was reducing as the sun rose and the sky got brighter, the moon wasn't blowing out any more so I was able to capture all the details in the moon as well as the island.
@@JohnMcKennaPhotography I figured as much. You’ve got so many wonderful, creative irons in the fire. I’ll look forward to seeing what you come up with. Jim.
Some absolutely 'stunning' shots here. An embarrassment of riches. Still planning an Ayrshire coast photo day but the weather this year has put me off. Intend to finish it off with an ice cream on the beach at Largs. I was on top of Ben Ledi two days ago ... couldn't see a damn thing due to mist, apart from some photogenic ravens.

Thanks Chas. Yeh, that was the shot I was hoping to get but the moon set further north than I'd anticipated. Might try again in a few months!

I’ve never seen the sleeping warrior so clearly as it is in your closing shot.
Thanks!

Really enjoyed this video, John. Just felt like we were there with you. Beautiful photographs
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it!
Hi John what a lovelly video and quality photos taken, magical, far from an amateur. Thank you
Thanks Malcolm!
How much fun, to see your plethora of choices! Do I want the castle or the dock? The daisies or the reflected moon? Maybe some small boats? Very nice.
There was a lot to choose from!
Lovely peaceful vlog John love the photos. Didn’t realise there was a small harbour, need to go back. Fantastic photos.

I love the line of clouds half way up Aran's slopes. Also interested in the shutter speed to retain detail in the moon, as well.
