    If you didn't go through the comments: this was mistakenly transcoded and published in 16:9 instead of the 2:1 aspect ratio while the original editor was away on vacation. It was a mistake, not a deliberate choice.

      G V "something like the delorean, something only a fanatic would build" meaning how famous the delorean was BECAUSE of back to the future.. someone would recreate that car just like back to the future. Now with the case.. because there was only a handful made and everything went into thought about making that case on why its SUPER good and you'll never get anything like it. Just like how the BTTF delorean is only 1 of them. Only a crazed computer enthusiast would grab that case for the price tag and make a piece of art out of it.

    So it has come to a point where even in the hardware-scene I'm getting old... I remember when I first started dabbling in modding, cutting our own case-windows, the first custom watercooling companies popping up... The moment I discovered the miilion-dollar-pc website, I was blown away. Got head over heels into modding, got to know Nils, Richard, L3p, did some custom projects myself and so on. Even back then the Murderbox was almost doomed to fail because of the infancy of the whole scene and the outrageousness of the project. Now however, it has become this exquisite piece of history, like a monument, earning its value on what it stands for. If you can't justify the price for yourself, then so be it, I can't afford it either. But do not make the mistake saying that it's not worth it. At this point in time, it is worth every penny and more just because of what it stands for. If you don't undertand this, I suggest you educate yourself on the evolution that the pc-modding scene went through. What we now have at our disposal in terms of visualy pleasing hardware, we have because of the community and people who won't settle for 'good enough'.

    What Linus is trying to sell here is really the story behind the case more than anything else: it was meant to be an economical modding accessory project that got out of hand financially, and kept getting pushed way past the point of absurdity. If you're the kind of person to pick apart at how it was made or what it's made of, then it was never meant for you. It's for people who can see the value not just of how good the results look, but the story of what it went through and why it's the way it is. If Charles has had to get a cash bailout for all this, the project is pretty much past the point where even that eye-watering price can turn a profit. It's probably just enough for him to get set up with his next project/s.

    • @vuirtec
      @vuirtec 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      You malign commenters here when you say they can't 'see the value' or can't appreciate the 'the story of what it went through and why it's the way it is'. Most understand both of those things, and appreciate the beauty of the case itself. But they either can't afford it (the majority of people can't), see no reason for the excessive price tag, or see no need for the case at all. And as someone said previously, if the case is more expensive than the actual computer parts inside it, .........

    • @Boyetto-san
      @Boyetto-san 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I certainly can't afford a case like this, and have no intention of ever getting something of this sort. But just stating that something wasn't targetted at me or a given demographic of people isn't the same as maligning people for just not being able to afford it. What I was responding to are some comments that DID malign the case for being a $2000 TJ07 mod and who outright said that people who liked the case were gullible suckers. That's the kind of condescension I was responding do.

    • @artmanrom
      @artmanrom 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      heydavewhite :) Those who can afford it's price, certainly can afford way more expensive components. I can afford it easily, but that doesn't mean that I appreciate it. Yes, it looks nice, but it's more of a tale of what not to do when designing a commercial project than anything else. At the end of the day it's not 4x as good looking as other high end cases and while I guess it's an interesting look to not have fan frame rails on the top frames I don't see how cutting off the fan frame rails is something that justifies hundreds of dollars? Even accounting for all the manual labor this thing is absurdly overpriced.

      My only thought is if they added a simi-reflective layer to it. If you wanted a more uniform light level based off general brightness then I could see this actually helping even out the brightness based off ambient lighting without having to vary the actual brightness nor have an ambient light sensor. However, it's probably just marketing speak.

    Isn't the fan frame important?
    I thought the frame is there to help create a vacuum as well as help stability and provide a sturdy mounting body.

    • @MrStereoify
      @MrStereoify 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      My thoughts exactly. Why would Noctua go through the hassle of minimising the frame gap in their newest fans if it would be to no airflow improvement?

    • @pitchforkntorch
      @pitchforkntorch 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      the frame only provides a directed specific pathway for air and closing the gap increases the pressure of the fan. Frames are totally useless for a general airflow fan...

    What's with all the Sherlocks commenting about the price. Literally mentioned in the video itself that it's insanely priced and only crazy enthusiasts should buy it. It's a beautiful case with a history of painstakingly hard work which gave birth to some of the coolest case features like the under glow lighting, the gradient blood drip, stealth optical drive, etc. Get this case if you have the money and love this case and appreciate all the crazy stuff that went behind it. Don't need all you Sherlocks to tell us that you can build an entire PC for $2000.

  • @PhilXavierSierraJones

    Few points to make about this case:
    The light panel basically is what is inside those cheap LED backlit monitors, but more aimed at frontal light than polarized light, it seems. He could have used one from these thin backlight panels.
    The lighting effects _could_ have been accomplished by a single strip of acrylic with strategically made etching pattern and a diffuser.
    The frameless fans are usually used in graphics cards, and are available in large quantities, but they are usually not the quietest fans. He could have ordered the custom fan from Noctua, Sunonwealth or other manufacturers instead of painstakingly modding the fans himself, though.
    Everything seems just a bit too overengineered for its own good, *BUT!* BUT, it's a piece of an art. It's beautiful. If you own one, I'm sure it'll last a long time since it's so well-made. I actually like the looks of this case, but the making process and bill-of-material could have been slightly optimized to reduce the load and burden on himself, physically and financially. It's the point I'm trying to make.

      6mm aluminum on its own is pricey now cut polish and etch then have it anodized... thats a good chunk in itself
      and yeah there are other work arounds now, but was all this cheap and easily doable 7 years ago when this started, how long will it hold up? whats the diffusion differential in lumens through the case, will it be true white or will the acrylic cause a color distortion?
      I think its great that its a nice strong AF case and its made more for water cooling with 2 fans to cool VRM with passive breeze and feed PSU some fresh air as well as drives, the real cooling is all H2O based for components .
      It is truly an art piece, but its missing RGB in the front drips

      I am not disagreeing with that -- I'm just suggesting ways to minimize the overall work overheads if he decides to make more. Oursourcing some parts of build process to China isn't all that bad (if and ONLY if you know where to look). Not everything has to be hand-made in-house. While, yes, I admit, it is beautiful in its own ways, puffing up advanced DIY project to full production scale without accounting for human resources and overheads only results in losses.
      I really, really, really want him to succeed. I don't want him to fail. :(
      If the process is not optimized fast enough, the next thing he will lose could be himself. This is unfortunately not a sustainable business.

    the light bar on the bottom is basically just a side lit led monitor panel without the lcd layer, so just the light destribution and guiding layers so that it shines to the front, DIY Perks has some nice videos showing how to convert broken lcd Panels to "fake windows" which light up the room evenly in front making the illsuion its a window where the light comes from behint the pnael itself and shines through it.
    this could easily maded into other cases with just cutting these distribution layers to size and attacking side lighting leds, could even work with rgb leds :D
