    I’m wanting to build modern affinity with the Labryth, but adding Kappa Cannoneer makes the deck seem difficult to play more the 6 cards that fit the imprint restriction

    • @Cheeshunter

      Yeah, Kappa is huge for affinity, and the lack of synergy with Lab is pretty punishing. I honestly don’t think anyone who is saying it’s good for affinity has tried making a list, let alone drawing some test hands.

    About time someone released a video like this. The imprinted card has to be colorless AND at least 7 mana. It's insane to me that people think this will be viable in Modern! I don't think MH3 will be printing enough colorless 7+ mana cards to make this viable, and even if they did, you'd want to follow the Force of Will guide of at least 16 cards to make this effective - too many 7+ mana cards imo.
    Point being is I think Ugin's Labyrinth is an overblown, overhyped piece of trash wasted as a mythic rare. I'll gladly sell this thing the moment I open one for the sweet sweet price of $70+ dollars. Hmm, $70+ dollars 7+ mana... weird.

    • @Cheeshunter

      Yep, massively overhyped. That being said, some of the support being spoiled looks promising, at least for possible jank brews.
      Personally, I can't wait for the commander precon lists to leak with Lab in it. That's going to devastate anyone who bought early!

      This card is insanely overhyped True. People are just mad of coloreless eldrazi so they say ugin labyrinth is broken because of their hate and not because of actual facts.

      Overhyped and overpriced for Modern.
      But for my big artifact/Eldrazi deck for commander I’ll throw it in there since I pulled a copy.
      Except… my friend plays a lot of land destruction like you mentioned in the video so it might not matter.

    First time I see one of your videos. Very interesting but I am not super familiar with the format, so I would really appreciate it if you could leave the cards you mention on screen for a bit longer so I have a chance of pausing and reading them without hitting the screen with frame-perfect reflexes 😂

  • @jollytry3500

    You are omitting one thing it doesn't belong to an existing list and will see play. It is a card for a colourless prison deck with thorn of amethyst and chalice. These two are already hard to play around . Now wait until the cards from mh3 get fully spoiled. I wouldn't be surprised if we see something like tangle wire and playable eldrazi cards with alternate cost or affinity like discount.
    Also their is a bit of a synergy with Nulldrifter people seem to ignore here

    • @Cheeshunter

      That was what my bit at the end was: if it does see play, it will be in a prison style deck because it can play chalice and the like on turn one, but currently the support doesn’t seem to be there. Either way, I hope we can both agree 85$ is an insane price for a card that might slot into a single, currently nonexistent, deck!

  • @Calebrice07

    Only way it will be "broken" is if mh3 adds alot of powerful affinity/eldrazi over 7 cmc. If that happens i don't think this land would be the broken card in this scenario

    • @Cheeshunter

      Yeah, I think the best case to make the land broken is by adding more 7+ drops that don’t cost 7, like the prototype cards from Brother’s War. Or cards with alternate costs, like force of will, or maybe some creatures with evoke. Some way to let you play 7 drops that also can do something early game. But I agree, doing that will probably break more than just the land!

  • @storeblaa

    While I agree with it not being as broken as people want it to be, it is still very strong, and so far from testing u dont really need 16 enablers at all, but yeah chalice on one wont happen

    • @Cheeshunter

      Well, we already have gotten some spoilers that make it feel less bad (devourer of destiny for one).
      16 is just a suggestion for consistency, but honestly I think the real number will probably be between 10 and 14, unless you are all-in on the chalice plan.

    It's a pretty big fallacy to use the FOW 16 blue card requirement when evaluating labyrinth. FOW is near useless in legacy without the second blue card to pitch to it: Labyrinth is still a functional magic card without anything to pitch to it. Pretty sure it'll see play in some variation of Tron as a way to cheese out a chalice of the void on 1, but I'm not sure how strong that'll be.

    • @Cheeshunter

      The FoW requirement is specifically to have access to force plus blue card on t1, when it is going to be most impactful. Same with lab. Sure, the failure case of having a non-basic waste isn’t as terrible as a force with no blue card, but it is still very bad, and the goal in deck building should be to minimize that. As for using it in tron, chalice on 1 invalidates about 20 cards from your own list, and that’s without considering what to cut in an already very tight mana base. Like I said, most people are saying things like “tron will play it” without even thinking about what a list could look like. That was the entire point of the video

    • @lukaro7074

      @@Cheeshunter Ok, first off, cool it a little please. I watched the video, I understood the point you were trying to make, and I disagreed with one of your supporting arguments. I was not trying to undermine your entire argument.
      The point I was trying to make is that no, getting T1 imprinted labyrinth with the consistency of a T1 FOW should not be the goal, and evaluating the card under that metric is a fundamentally flawed way to evaluate the card. The question you should be asking is not whether the card is generally better than a replacement in a specific deck: that is, is the possibility of drawing a "nut draw" with labyrinth, chalice and a big colorless spell worth it for some specific decklist. I imagine for most decklists, even most variations of tron, that'll be a no, but there are also several completely colorless versions of the tron mana base, such as eldrazi tron or anvil tron that I could see this card being a reasonable replacement for some number of colorless utility lands.

    • @Cheeshunter

      @@lukaro7074 So evaluating deck construction in a way that improves odds of a t1 lab+7 is fundamentally flawed, instead I should consider the odds of a "nut draw" that includes lab+7 and chalice, presumably on t1. Got it.
      And anvil tron has zero 7 drops, and 16+ 1 drops.

    • @lukaro7074

      @@Cheeshunter You should consider the odds of a nut draw, relative to the drawbacks of whatever card you are taking out of the deck. Like, I think we'd all agree that if you're taking out a basic wastes, Labyrinth would probably be an upgrade to to the deck. The debate isn't "can this deck consistently imprint labyrinth on T1", it's "is the possibility that this deck could imprint labyrinth on T1 better than having a blast zone/whatever utility land in the deck". I'd think the answer to that question would be yes, for some portion of decks, but I could obviously be wrong because I'm not psychic.
      And yeah, anvil tron was probably a bad example from me. It was just a deck that came to mind as having mostly or all colourless lands.

    • @Cheeshunter

      @@lukaro7074 The problem is removing a basic waste isn't ever really on the table. The caliber of utility land these days is Urza's Saga or Blast Zone. And when something like basic waste is included, it's a hedge against things like Path and Blood Moon. That's why I stressed looking at lists before getting too hyped. Not an attack against you or anything, just a general statement, because everything looks way better until you need to trim that list down to 60.
      Side note, this is a prime example of the power creep from Modern Horizon style sets; everything is too damn good now!

  • @Duransurik

    Shrugs, you just don't play colorless, it's fine, it's more of a commander card for eldrazi tribal, but it doesn't enter tapped, can tap for 2 while protecting your win con and in colorless not having color spread is like whatever, as for 60 card formats since commander identity is not a thing and how fast the format can run it's probably not a oh my god ban that card, everyone is saying it will be, the fact that it's a land might mean it's not a sol ring mana ramp but it's much harder to remove making the card that is imprinted very hard to mess around with as the opponent

    • @Cheeshunter

      My main EDH deck has been colorless since Rise of Eldrazi came out (emerakul, then kozilek when she was banned). It’s a decent land for some colorless builds, for sure, but being a commander card for an extremely small niche of commander players doesn’t cause a card to command an 85$ price tag.
      Plus, come on, everything’s playable in commander!
