I got my white Kindle basic 10th gen this past December 2020 and I love it. It has served me very well. I do recommend getting a case for it for protection, ease of handling, and to be able to add wireless charging to it. The low resolution has not been a problem for me. It is sharp enough to read. The front lighting is also even through out my device. No problems there. It´s interesting how much the user interface has changed in one year.
I've just purchased this. The only things I dont like are the constant black and white flicker thing it does every time you touch the page, like a refresh thing and the fact you cannot change the background colour and text colour (eg black background and white text) I'm visually impaired and it's so much easier to read on the kindle app on my phone with this function.
I just got the new Basic as a secondary reader (my main is an Oasis 2) and love it. I live in Japan so I like to have one dedicated to my US account and another my Japan account. The lower resolution on the Basic seems to be no issue at all, and might be an advantage in terms of speed. However, as you do mention watch for the sales. On Amazon Japan, the new Paperwhite is on sale for 3,000 yen off, making it just 2,000 yen more than the Basic.
Just bought that model. Could anybody tell me if notes, dictionary and highlight could be used on articles from the web browser or only on amazon books? Does it work with a stylus pen? Lastly and most importantly, if you download books from another place(except Amazon), how do you insert them? Thank you! I bought it mostly so that I read articles on the web on an eye-friendly screen. Hopefull, kindle basic would allow me this.
Just down load the book....find ur kindle email adress from the settings in ur kindle device Now just mail the pdf (or any file format) of the book u downloaded to the kindle mail...if u write convert in the subject of the mail ..the format automatically changes to the mobi format..
Hello! Someone who has the basic Kindle and the Kindle paperwhite could advise me if the experience is the same when reading pdf or the Kindle Paper white is better. Thank you.
You can...there are tons of free software online to convert your odds and epubs to mobi or kindle text..just Google. And use the Usb connection to add the books into your Kindle:)
Yes you can. It is sharp enough to read Manga. Especially since manga is already line art in black and white, though I´m sure it would be better on the other models with higher resolution.
Is the voiceview screen reader also work on .pdf? For .pdf, after pinch zooming, what will happen if you swipe the screen, does it move to the next page or it scroll to the next section of the current page? Thanks
No, you don´t technically need it, but I would certainly recommend it as it will protect the device and make handling a lot easier. It also offers the wakeup feature when you open the case.
I think the current Paperwhite is more worth it since it has a higher resolution, smoother LED lighting, and is waterproof, for not that much more money.
I love the idea of e-ink.. and the one time I used it it was great. But the truth is, 90% of my reading is on the go as I can, and that means grabbing my phone.
Please help! I am confused whether to buy a kindle reader or not. The main purpose is to read mechanical engineering textbooks, often involving codes, equations, diagrams and graphs. Should I buy the new kindle reader/paperwhite or is there any other better option? P.S: I have pdf copies of the books
the purpose of the Kindle is primarily to read books. Not PDFs. If you want PDFs I would recommend getting something with a bigger screen. Like a likebook mimas:)
1:16 I'm sure it's "More like (book title)", where the title is of your most recently purchased book, not what you mentioned. For example, it would show something like "MORE LIKE BE EVERYTHING AT ONCE: TALES OF A CARTOONIST LADY PERSON" or "MORE LIKE THE BIG BAD PIZZA BATTLE (WOLFIE MONSTER #1)". 5:08 Ah yes, KFX Comic format samples, where it's just the first 7 pages INCLUDING front matter, which for me equates to just 3-4 pages of the actual comic. I do, however, have some comic compilations I could use Kindle Lending with if you don't have any manga or comic books to demonstrate the page turn engine with.
With the new update it is much easier to connect to Bluetooth. It has an icon specific for Bluetooth and under settings it has a menu option just for Bluetooth. Very easy to use now.
My 3rd generation Kindle has a headphone jack and speakers for text-to-speech. Bluetooth should be in addition to these features, not instead of. Why the hell does it click to turn a page with text-to-speech? This probably annoys blind people even more. My 3rd generation Kindle does not click. How annoying that would be. Other pet peeves I have: basic Kindle display should be least 7" diagonally (6" is too small for reading books inclusive of margins). More expensive models should perhaps be those models with even larger displays. A traditional DVD case is 9” diagonally for example. This would be an ideal size for a more advanced Kindle model. The basic model should be 7” and the advanced model should be 9”. All existing models should be scrapped. Can someone at Amazon please design a symmetrical Kindle with the same bezels sizes on the top, bottom and sides? Is this too much to ask? Further, given the Kindle device has large bezels, why do Kindle books also need large margins? Visually isn’t this two sets of margins? Never held a book with two margins on each side of the page. At least add an option to reduce the margins/header/footer even further. Three options for margins isn’t enough. If I was designing the Kindle I would go further and have the engineers get rid of the bezels fully, bringing the page right to the edge of the device (or as close to fully as achievable, with only the necessary plastic edge protection melded into the design). Then I would add an additional pagination method: a gentle squeeze anywhere along side of the display-without need for buttons or moving your fingers. This would have the advantage that you can hold the device in the way that suits and give a gentle squeeze when you want to turn the page. Swipes would work too (you could turn this off). Or taps if you wanted those (you could turn this on). Tapping the centre of the display would bring up all touch controls. Tapping anywhere else would do nothing-eliminating accidental page turns and menu prompts. Give it a decent size screen, make the front view to the device look like a page from a book, make the plastic housing a colour similar to the e-ink display itself and add equal margins around the text. That would be ideal. After 13 years of Kindle iteration I figured we’d be here already. As for the UI I don’t know what the hell they are doing. “Settings” twice on the same screen? No easily accessible "Aa" font button? No ability to permanently delete documents on device? And a terrible Kindle document website to boot. And page numbers... I don't mean page numbers that correspond to the page numbers of the physical book. I just mean page numbers at the bottom of each screen-make the font larger and the number of pages in the book increase-just as Apple does in Apple Books (tap for controls and you see the total pages in the book, hide controls and you just see the current page number. It's clean and simple and has worked very well for hundreds if not thousands of years). The progress bar should be optional and hideable. Amazon need to do better. Many of the product decisions Amazon Kindle team make are bizarre. The Oasis is ridiculously overpriced and the cheaper models are too small and wonky. Somebody design a decent book reader, please. Newest Kindles look more dated than the 2007 iPhone. E-ink is not their limitation nor the issue. Imagination, taste and determination are. The Paperwhite model is too shiny to be a good book reader. I read a review recently where someone upgraded from the 7th gen Paperwhite to the latest 10th generation and genuinely preferred the 7th gen: no obnoxious "Kindle" branding front and centre and a more matte front all around.
I just got the 10th generation. Is there away to get dark mode or a black background? The white is a bit distracting to me. I’ve tried to update but I still see no option.. please help! Thank you!!
if you download the app Libby, on your phone, it allows you to check out a book on your phone and send it directly to your kindle with no purchase required. you can return the book when you are done, and it doesn't take up space on either of your devices.
It does have an experimental browser which is limited. This device was not intended as a web browsing device, due to the slowness of it and limited CPU and RAM. But you can use it for some webpages and you can download files directly into the device if they meet the file formats usable by Kindle. I can read the Goodereader blog and can download some books from Z-Library Project site.
Definitely close to the paperwhite. The differences mainly are the waterproofing and the dark mode. The screen is a higher resolution on the paperwhite, but overall it really doesn´t take away from the experience of reading books. I would recommend the paperwhite if you need water proofing and the 32 GB of storage.
Do you really? I was about to get Paperwhite, but then in the reviews the regular Kindle seems just as fast as Paperwhite. Do you find it to be very slow?
Finally found a video with w review focusing on the device instead of the person giving the review. Thumbs up. Thanks for the video

Thank you for the comprehensive review! It was great and I now know that this one will serve me well for what I need

You can change how frequently it refreshes the screen from every page to every 6 pages. It only gives you these two options.
@@rodhernandez4134 thank you!!!!
You can actually just pinch the screen to activate the font size settings

been here so many times. still don't have money to buy this one. *cries in papyrus
Same here 😢😂😂
I like the outdoors beginning and ending to your video. Nice touch!
I bought mine for 63 dollars Valentine promotion. It’s a great little reader.
Just bought that model. Could anybody tell me if notes, dictionary and highlight could be used on articles from the web browser or only on amazon books? Does it work with a stylus pen? I decided this year to get an amazon kindle for myself! So excited to unbox it!
Can i use in absence of light i mean at night
Yes you can.
Will get my e-reader this month. I'm so excited😍😍😍😍
The best e-reader reviews.
Can you upload books through the USB cable (from your laptop) if you don't have wi-fi where you live?
Yes, using calibre
Yes, you can do it directly or using the Calibre program. Just make sure you convert the files to MOBI or AZW or AZW3 format.
Just down load the book....find ur kindle email adress from the settings in ur kindle device
Now just mail the pdf (or any file format) of the book u downloaded to the kindle mail...if u write convert in the subject of the mail
..the format automatically changes to the mobi format..
Hello! Someone who has the basic Kindle and the Kindle paperwhite could advise me if the experience is the same when reading pdf or the Kindle Paper white is better. Thank you.
Are there any tricks as to how to rotate the screen 90 degrees counterclockwise? I am not comfortable with 90 degrees clockwise orientation
It depends on what you are reading.
Can I upload PDFs or EPUBs from my computer?
Rashīd Nexkoyotl hey i know you didn’t ask me but i believe you can’t upload epubs, kindle doesn’t open this type of file
it opens MOBI tho
You can, but you need to convert the files first with a software called Calibre, in converts and send files to you kindle.
You can...there are tons of free software online to convert your odds and epubs to mobi or kindle text..just Google. And use the Usb connection to add the books into your Kindle:)
Just send your pdf to kindle mail address from your registered email id with subject 'convert'. It will automatically appear in ur library.
Hey thanks for the review, i wanted to ask if this basic kindle with lower resolution can be used for reading manga as the font in manga is small.
Not ideal, for manga and comic go for the paperwhite
Yes you can. It is sharp enough to read Manga. Especially since manga is already line art in black and white, though I´m sure it would be better on the other models with higher resolution.
Thank you! Your review was really insightful and helpful
Is the voiceview screen reader also work on .pdf?
For .pdf, after pinch zooming, what will happen if you swipe the screen, does it move to the next page or it scroll to the next section of the current page? Thanks
Where is the Goodreads button??
Can I get a menu to come up showing the titles of my books like my old kindle had?
yes
Is there any english dictionary in kindle?
Yes.
Can this do furigana over a kanji? (In books, not manga, obviously.)
Yes, it can.
when ı spoke a kindle seller he said that it doen t support soınd but you showed it supports.
Yeah it does not, altought you can connect it via Bluetooth to an external speaker and listen to Audible
Yes it can, but only for the VoiceView and Audible books via Bluetooth. You can´t sideload audio content.
Should i get it or should i wait for the 11th generation?
Do you know when the 11th gen would come out?
I would get it. With the 8 GB and glowlight, it is a very capable device. No need to wait.
will it highlight the text while performing text to speech?
It will pause the reading. You can restart the VoiceView again with a gesture.
What is be Munngah do I nedd to be down lowded
Do you need some case for your kindle?
The original kindle case is actually pretty good. It really makes it look like a notebook. I love my Charcoal Black cover.
No, you don´t technically need it, but I would certainly recommend it as it will protect the device and make handling a lot easier. It also offers the wakeup feature when you open the case.
Just how do I get back to the library?
I bought this product .everything is ok but I can't download book .sent with email and usb but can't show .who knows help me please
Maybe try writing "convert" in subject when you are emailing it. Because kindle only accepts the mobi form and not the pdf form
Can I read pdf with ease in this Kindle ?
It is doable, but the downside is the small screen.
I think the current Paperwhite is more worth it since it has a higher resolution, smoother LED lighting, and is waterproof, for not that much more money.

What should I buy if I want to read newspapers which I download in pdf form. Like Financial Times, 40mb max
I would spend even 800$ for something fast, in order to have something which moves fast and good for reading newspapers (in pdf size, as stated above)
So, is this basically a 6th generation Kindle Paperwhite?
Do you happen to know how much this differs from the 2018 release? I can’t seem to find any comparisons.
it has led back lits to read at night. In 2018 you could only read in light.
It now comes with 8 GB of storage.
How to connect Bluetooth keyboard to kindle basic 10th gen?
No, just audio devices. I just tried it and it didn´t work.
i wonder if kindle will have a 128gb storage in the future!?
I love the idea of e-ink.. and the one time I used it it was great. But the truth is, 90% of my reading is on the go as I can, and that means grabbing my phone.

the manga reading here looks better than the paperwhite... i mean faster. is it just me, or it's really like that?
And tell him it’s ‘manga’ not ‘monga’ 😆
what about PDF? Should it be converted?
No, you don´t have to convert them. I have noticed that Calibre sometimes messes up the PFD file when you convert them.
@@rodhernandez4134 oke, thank u bro
i really love the design of this but prefer what the paperwhite can do. argh
can you send books to the basic kindle via email?
You can but I've heard that the quality is bad and you shouldn't buy a kindle for the sole purpose of reading in pdfs

Hi can you suggest cover and screen guard for it .kindle 10 generation 4gb wifi. I belong to india
🙋🏼♂️ Hi Peter I missed you ‼️
Paper white screen looks much better...
I bought this and regret it. storage too low and it is sluggish

It´s not a tablet.
So, can consider that kindle has no improvement in this round.
Front light makes all the difference pal
It's a very nice incremental improvement. No front lighting on the previous model was a real disadvantage.
perfomance has improved
It now comes with 8 GB storage
