What do you dip your brush in before the pigment? Maybe I missed it

I use a fluid varnish to paint and mix with pigments. My favorites are a satin varnish rather than glossy or matte. There are a few different brands, but do make sure it is more of a fluid than gel so you can mix. You could use a fluid medium, but I like that the varnish also seals the project I'm working on as I paint.
