a fellow viewer recommended the female author Banana Yoshimoto who also has a similar writing style as Murakami minus the toxic masculinity vibes a lot you also mentioned feeling! her favs are Kitchen and Goodbye Tsugumi ~ I'm gonna check them out but if anyone has any other recommendations feel free to leave them below!

Thank you for sharing your experiences on camera - those are so deeply personal and it’s not your job to educate white people but it certainly wakes us up to microaggressions we’ve committed because of our ignorance. I’ve had a lot of reckoning to do esp. around judging asian friends for not feeling as safe parking somewhere, traveling somewhere, etc. it’s sickening that you can’t feel safe in this world.

My tears wouldn’t stop when you’d started crying... I’m from north-east India and people here have beautiful oriental features but when I go to central India I am ALWAYS asked “are you Chinese or Japanese?” Many a times my sister and I have been catcalled and groped..I also look down when I walk so that no one can see my eyes :(
Leah, I just wanna really thank you for being there for me. The videos that you make, make me feel so comfortable in my own skin and appreciate what I have. Everytime I’m anxious, just seeing your videos calm me. Take care and thank you so much. always.

      Soo true!
It has happened so many times yet i still get panic attacks when i see a bunch of boys or even kids in groups or walking past by me. Whats even worst is its like the moment they pass by me im just waiting for them to cat call or call racist names cause ive developed this thing where i feel relieved if im out of the situation asap, and when they surprisingly dont give racist remarks the sigh i release is like a heavy burden lifted up.

As an Asian girl who is currently in a relationship with a white guy, I totally relate to what you were telling Andrew in the video. Having recently gone through an identity crisis (being Chinese, born and raised in Europe and having lived in a small town where I was the only Asian person in my school) I vocalized my frustration to my boyfriend about the fact that he is unaware of these things and doesn't educate himself, despite having all the white hetero cis privileges. I hope you feel better now, from your video I see you have a close friend group of Asian Americans and it's so important to have a safe space where you can talk about your emotions without being gaslight and having to explain yourself all the time. Stay safe and take care, thank you again for your videos, it's nice to see asian girls of my age on TH-cam and being able to relate to them ^_^

I agree with what you shared about Murakami. In my experience with his books, all his male protagonists have the same trope with a lot of toxic mindsets and a lot of the female characters are objectified and only exist for the protagonist (manic pixie dream girls?). however, I highly recommend Kafka on the shore, it is a completely different genre than Norwegian wood and in my opinion gives the best taste of his writing style. its without a doubt one of my favourite novels BUT I agree that any reader must understand the implications and problematic tropes in his writing and not be afraid to critique or dislike that. It's also important to recognize Murakami's background, as someone born in 1949, in Japan, a country with a more backwards stance when it comes to gender and extremely conflicting views on women and their roles in it especially from a Western perspective. It's important to read Murakami with that in mind, and that's one of the biggest things i've learned as someone whose favorite novels are amongst his work. but plsss read kafka on the shore, can't stress it enough. its a brilliant/beautiful story. that being said awareness and discussion is vital.

I'm happy finally someone notices those problems in the book, it made me feel so lonely to not hear other people talk about it but even with that Murakami's writing id really nice and poetic ;)
I just wanted to say that i can't imagine what you're going through right now, i hope you stay safe, love you so much 💕 Thanks for bringing the awareness. Your vlogs make me feel better always, it feels like having an older sister :") your energy is just so nice, I'm watching your vlog before my exam to relax💕 love from Mexico 🇲🇽
