  • After the final train left the line, on 28th September 2019, the line was officially closed.
    The final train ran from Clapham Junction to Worksop, circling this line at Cottam Power Station.
    May 2021, has seen WestBrecks completely disconnected from power, and will not be used again.
    Thank you for the memories.

    Hopefully they'll re-open the line for passenger use in future. My local crossing, Robertstown, has been abandoned since 2017, when Hirwaun Colliery was closed. But due to the South Wales Metro extension is in progress, there's possibility that the line may re-open in future.

    It will be interesting to find out whether or not Clarborough Jn will be lifted anytime soon, a lot of the branchlines and junctions on the High Marnham route have been lifted by now, but I guess it's when money permits. Would love to see the line in action again but I'm not holding my breath.

    Incredible! The wigwags and alarms are pretty much still in mint condition! If Network Rail do not require them for spares - would it not be a great idea if rail enthusiasts or anyone who loves railways in general, to make an offer to Network Rail and purchase them for preservation instead of just allowing them to fade, decay and rot?

    They've also removed the *another train coming if lights continues to show* sign. Shane to see Westbrecks and Leverton left to exist

      A fair bit was removed since this visit, whether by Network Rail or pedestrians themselves.

    Interesting insight into the crossing - you’d have thought they could have taken stuff away to use as spares elsewhere!

      It was decided by the power station / government that Cottam Power Station would cease active use during mid 2019, and a railtour then ran in September 2019 to fully signify the railway closure. Following this, the railway was fully disconnected from power. The line is expected to be 'cut off' at Clarborough Junction in due course, with the power station to eventually become a housing estate (with no nearby railway). With many of Network Rails abandoned sites, equipment tends to be left behind to rot away (see Grimsby Tioxide). For how long the wigwags will remain here, is a mystery.

    It would be good if at least one of those crossings was donated to the Lincolnshire Wolds Railway, rails too

    If its abandoned would the electricity in the track still be on

    • @DENPTrains
      @DENPTrains 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      These lines have no third rail and thus no electricity running through the tracks. I'd imagine any other electricity towards has also been ceased, the signals are also unpowered now so this would suggest that.

      Yes, post railway closure there was also a copper cable theft, so on top of the already given closure it would require heavy extensive maintenance if it was to ever come back into use.

      @@DENPTrains I think it is.. Long overdue being cut off there however. very odd why that's taking so long.
