I think releasing these dance practice / performance videos is also a nice way to engage the fans: lots of people fo k-pop covers and it is another way of attracting new audience to your M/V. People have a favorite cover group, the cover group releases a video, people like the song and go listen to it.
This song originally feels like a beautiful poem and the dance performance makes it more like that, it's not too much, and since the scene and outfits do not change much it feels like a poem performed as a dance drama on a moon or starlit night. Exquisite!

In Kpop, dance practice is mainly produced to show completed dance as a group, and dance performance is a form that shows performance in advance when performing live on air, and is often produced when performing solo activities.

the dance performance videos, i think are really to show you what the song will look like performed on a stage. because in South Korea they have so many music award shows every week and when artist debut they have a special stage. so this really gives you that aspect even if they arent the ones performing on a show this is what it will look like on stage or in concert.
I lived 7 years in Japan, and while I was there, I saw kids dancing at any public place that had a big glass window. Being Brazilian, to me, I compared with kids in Brazil that play soccer at any public space they can find. It is possible that this is in all of East Asia, that dancing to choreography is now a very cultural thing. And that is why dancing in kpop is par to singing.

Hey Anthony, like you said in the video there are short segments being filmed and edited together with match cuts, jump cuts, etc. Dance performances are done for all the reasons you said but more importantly for live performances.
If I’m not mistaken, Bigbang popularized the dance practice videos and Blackpink the dance performance with How you like that. The first is kinda homemade and usually in one take… while the other has little editions, better production and lighting

It looks to me that BlackPink girls prepare for live performances and concerts and will need to prepare live dance choreography for that. The m/v's are to reach a wider global audience but is secondary to their preparations for live concert tours.

The song doesn't follow the recent trends. Instead they seem to look for their own sound.
A sound that is missing in Kpop right now and resembles BAP a bit.
Their vocals, rap and most importantly lyrics and song production are high quality and meaningful.
