I use a PSP-1000 stick. Didn't even had to open the 3DS just pulled the c-stick with small tweezers and put the psp stick over it. Fits perfetly, feels havenly and costs less than a dollar.

But basicaly you can pull the C-stick out trough its gap very easily (but it will turn it's rubber around the screws apart so only do that if you won't use the c-stick anymore). Then just press the PSP-1000 cap on and it will fit in perfectly. I did it around 5years ago and didn't had any issue. It never popped off or had any issue with the games that support it or closing the system. It's a very easy and useful mod.
Try pawn shops, I managed to find a New 3DS XL galaxy edition in excellent condition for $65 with 5 games and case because they didn't know what they had. I visited 8 pawn shops in total.
Maybe if you find one broken? Mine had a broken bottom screen which was an easy and cheap replacement, and I paid less than usual for a new 3ds bc of it

@@AzureRT456 You actually don't need to open it up. What I did is to just grab a small pair of scissors (I think I used one of those sharp nail clipping scissors) and cut out the nub. Some of the plastic will remain, but it doesn't get in the way, just cut out as much as you can. Then press the Thinkpad nub in there and you're done. I know it sounds too good to be true, but I believe I did that all the way back in 2020 and even now it still works perfectly and I never had any issues.
Hopefully this can make Luigi's Mansion more playable, for some reason I can only make Luigi look up or down depending if I have the controls inverted, but not both...

If you don't want to emulate and modded your 3DS I think you can connect a regular pro controller or PS5 controller to it with a homebrew app. Iirc the game is mostly playable without touch iirc
That would've required a LOT larger redesign to accommodate for something that large. And at the end of the day, there were a grand total of like 5 games that even used it, so it really wouldn't have been a worthwhile change.

@@zwoos8723 if you’re still looking for something I found that the PS1000 stick replacement works pretty well. It can be a bit finicky to get to work properly however as you need to manually adjust the part that goes over the inner grey square “c-stick”. If it’s not formed properly it can essentially give you stick drift which is frustrating. It took me a good 30 minutes of fiddling with it to get it to work properly.
I have this on all my 3ds. It's the best, way better than PSP-1000 (I tried both). MUST BE the low profile version. Some sellers on aliexpress are selling singles now, so you don't need to buy the 5 pack from Lenovo.

They made a circle pad pro accessory to pair with the original ds, almost like they were hinting at a revised 3ds with a second full on slider. Then we got this and had to live with it 😂
I did a toolless mod by just pulling the c-stick nub out with my fingers. It breaks a little loop of rubber but can be squished back into place whenever you want and you'd never know. I used a PSP slider cap in place of the nub and it works perfectly, just kind of leaning your thumb around the cap.
I did this last year with my brother's New 3DS and oh boy, it's a game changer. I honestly like it better than the PSP Analog Cap mod because it's rubberized so it gives a better grip on your thumb.
i thought you meant the one in the video. the one from the psp might just do that if you close the lid too hard, since it can make a bit of a leaver on the upper screen if your new nub is too big. you can test if your new nub will let the console close fine without getting rid of the old one by closing the lid and putting the overhang of the new nub next to the line where the two screens meet outside. it sounds confusing over text, but here's how you can do it: 1. close the ds. 2. put the new nub facing towards you on the side where the black shadowy line forms. 3. look closely to see if the bump would cause the screen to bent when closed. you can take measurements with a cardboard and a pen or a ruler if that helps. if the case can't close due to the nub, you can either get the lenovo nubs online, or take off the nub when you close the console, and then put it back on when you need to use it. keep in mind that i haven't done this with a psp nub, and this is what i did for my cousins 3ds with a lenovo nub.. the nub has no reason to scratch the screen due to the motion it does, but that is assuming the nub fits properly in the space when the two screens are closed. so take this with a grain of salt and be careful. sorry for getting long-winded. td;dr: lenovo nub worked for me fine without scratching, but it's because of the size and not the material. @@marcobarrientos4953
The C-Stick used to part of an accessory called the circle pad pro for o3ds & o3ds xl/ll. They added it because they don't want you to need the accessory anymore; it's the same reason the n3ds have the ZL/ZR buttons and the built-in amiibo.

@@StepBaumAn extra input goes a long way. Rear paddles on controllers are a game changer, adding 4 more inputs. The steam deck has a touchpad that can act as a joystick, mouse, directional pad, or whatever you program it for. The tiny C-stick on the 3DS added functionality, but I don't think many games utilized it to begin with, which is a shame.

Uhhhh, theyre seems to be cracking on the right side that’ll eventually break you’re 3DS into half. You’re gonna have to check into that because I learned that the hard way from my old 3DS XL
What I did to get around this was I got a large rubber band, hole punched it, then glued it to the pad. Yeah, over time it would come off, but it worked like a charm and practically had the same effect. And when it did inevitably wore off, I could just repeat the process however many times I wanted.
The original nub can actually be simply pulled off without opening up the hardware. Just gotta have the right tool to pull hard enough that the plastic holding the nub in place tears and you'll have it ready to replace with the x1.
I have my old 3Ds still. I know I know, that's not that impressive. But you know what is? The original stylus is still there. I somehow managed to never lose it despite being a very chaotic child, and losing everything I could possibly lose.
The original 3ds models had an entire attachment that basically gave a second left pad to the right side. Why they decided to fit new 3ds models with this, i will never understand

Uhhhh, theyre seems to be cracking on the right side that’ll eventually break you’re 3DS into half. You’re gonna have to check into that because I learned that the hard way from my old 3DS XL

Nothing will ever beat the psp 1000 stick
You can also just rip out the c stick jelly without even opening the system. A psp analog stick also fits there
What I did to get around this was I got a large rubber band, hole punched it, then glued it to the pad. Yeah, over time it would come off, but it worked like a charm and practically had the same effect. And when it did inevitably wore off, I could just repeat the process however many times I wanted.
Now i just need a new 3ds and i can do this
I just ripped out my original c sticks and put them back in to fix them. Worked every time

The DS in all its forms is making a huge comeback.
The original nub can actually be simply pulled off without opening up the hardware. Just gotta have the right tool to pull hard enough that the plastic holding the nub in place tears and you'll have it ready to replace with the x1.

I have my old 3Ds still. I know I know, that's not that impressive. But you know what is? The original stylus is still there. I somehow managed to never lose it despite being a very chaotic child, and losing everything I could possibly lose.

The original 3ds models had an entire attachment that basically gave a second left pad to the right side.
Why they decided to fit new 3ds models with this, i will never understand

I had forgotten that nub can be used. Somewhere along the line I deluded myself into thinking it worked like felt and it's primary purpose was to rest the screen when closed.
Makes sense why they added the nub, very few games used a second stick and very few games were coming out for the 3DS. Didn’t have the space or need
