    I was thankful to have my shade cloth handy in a quick pinch! I’m outside Albany NY and it hit 98 degrees. I’m concerned it will be a drought year. Ugh.

    Wow that’s hotter than I was here in Texas, we hit 90 degrees. Luckily we have a earlier start on planting and my tomatoes plants are already loaded with green tomatoes. I’m heavily mulched and blight is a constant battle so is rust on beans. Fire ants and squash bugs are never ending

    Can you use straw as mulch

    • @iamorganicgardening
      @iamorganicgardening  ปีที่แล้ว

      You have to be safe using straw lately. Must test it first for something called Grazon Herbicide, It is a weed kill farmers use to spray they fields of straw. It will kill your garden for years/

  • @XroorX
    @XroorX ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Sprinkle some diatomaceous earth under the mulch. Trace amounts of silicate in the DE will increase elasticity of the tomatoes cell wall, reducing drought stress…getting a Silicate specific supplements are not necessary as its $$$$$$, and you need very little amount

      Interesting. If the mulch is from the chicken coop in which DE was used there may be enough still in there
