Our taxi driver also said we had to go to the Vientiane Railway Station to buy advanced tickets (for Vientiane to Luang Prabang). But in Luang Prabang, our hotel was able to secure advanced tickets for us (LP to V). We also saw a ticket office along Phothisarath road.

We also saw a ticket office in Luang Prabang, and I think you can get tickets there. It’s around a 10-minute walk from the post office, across the street. Try to buy at least two days before, if you are eyeing to get first class tickets, as they sell out quickly. Also, note that they might not be selling tickets on the same day, which happened to us in Vientiane. Enjoy your trip to Laos!
