I have done this so many times and STILL no paint comes out, or it comes out for a split second and then nothing. I have cleaned the tip time and time, again. I've adjusted pressure up AND down. I've experimented with thinning paints. I spend more time trying to get my airbrush to work, than I do actually painting my models.
I've had the same issue. I tried a different approach - I kept the trigger pressed and pulled all the way back. Then, I pulled the needle out from the airbrush from behind until I saw some paint spray out. Seems to work so far..
So tonight i spent an hour disassembling my airbrush unit part for part with all the correct brushes and cleaners. Put it all back together to find there was no paint coming out. Spent the last hour wondering why to find the screw just wasn’t tight enough to bring the needle back 😂😂😂 thankyou sir for the video! Literally saved me a migraine! Haha 🙌🏼🙌🏼
New airbrush (cheap portable compressor type) ; chuck nut is fine - needle moves; trigger lever appears to work fine, water based paint is thin - have tried water. Have cleaned it. Even the water doesn't spray.
i just got my first airbrush and unfortunately it came with no instructions. i didn’t understand why it wasn’t spraying paint, and this tutorial helped me completely fix it and understand it better!! thank you!!
Can’t thank you enough for this video. I spent an hour using lacquer thinner and airbrush cleaner trying to clean my airbrush thinking it is clogged somewhere as the needle won’t move. Almost thought I had to get a new cleaning set. Apparently I just didn’t tighten the back enough.
Your video saved me a big huge headache. The minute you said tighten your screw in the pen it worked like a charm in seconds! Thank you so much for posting this! I'm sure other artists are saying the same! 😊
Thank you so much for this, I couldn't figure out what I had done after stripping my airbrush and your video helped me realize never re-installed the needle nut. 🤦🏻♂
Thanks man it seems that the first issue was what plagued me for some times now, even though I still have issue with getting the needle out of the air brush. Have a good day
you legend! I'm a complete scrub and thought I'd knackered my airbrush shortly after receiving it as a present from my wife. fixed it tonight thanks to this video!
I'm just starting airbrushing (painting dioramas) and these videos of yours have been excellent in giving me a good understanding of how everything works. :) thanks
Thanks a lot for this tip! It could have saved me buying a new airbrush if I would have looked up the problem sooner. I cleaned my airbrush because no paint was coming out anymore so I thought I have dried up paint in there (which might have been true), and after putting it together there was still no paint coming out... I thought my airbrush died (it's kinda old) so I ordered a new pistol... and again, no paint... that's when I finally looked up the problem and found this video, which solved the the issue for BOTH airbrush pistols.
Great Videos. Huge benefits. I am currently not able to spray any paint even after I have done these fixes. I even looked at the comments and followed their suggested fixes and still No paint or water is coming through. What can I do now? *I cleaned the needle fully *Needle Not bent *Anchors cleaned and well positioned *The nut holding the needle is tight and the needle is moving through smoothly *Blows air but no water or paint will come through Any other suggestions? Thank you in advance. Great Content.
Thanks for you video Can I run posca/molotow paint from my paint pens thru an airbrush? And what's the best pressure to run my airbrush at? Thank you ☺️
I would run your airbrush anywhere between 20 - 30psi, as far as paint pens, if you can decant the paint into your airbrush then it should be fine however it should be at a 'milky' consistency. Hope that helps.
What do you suggest I do if my locking nut is not loose, airbrush components have been thoroughly cleaned, and the entire airbrush broken down to the smallest parts possible and my airbrush still will not spray.?
It sounds like you are possibly missing a part, have you double checked that all parts are accounted for, I would check to make sure that the plunger assembly is in tact and that is also 100% clean also make sure your airline is working properly so that you are getting enough air to the brush. We actually fixed a customers issue this week where the hose was the issue and the reason his psi was so low, with a new hose the problem was fixed so just take your time and go through and try and isolate the problem by testing and then fix it from there . Hope that helps 👍🏻
@@AirbrushAsylum thank you for the reply.!! I am 100% sure I am not missing any pieces. I watched a breakdown video of my airbrush followed along and everything was present. I'm at a place where I'm ready to give up. However I don't want to either. I will check my hose next. Thank you again for the tips
Yep. Same here. Wouldn't even spray water right out of the box. Broke it down several times. Verified all the parts, cleaned it, though it never sprayed anything. Contacted the seller. Probably gonna send it back. I'm a total beginner, so, I have yet to spray even an atom of paint.
great video man this has helped me so much, i had this exact problem and i had no idea why it was happening and it was the needle. thank you very much you saved me a few hundred bucks.

I am a beginner and after 1 minute of painting only air comes out. I use a cheap adler gun with 0,8 mm nozzle and a tempera paint (egg yolk+dammar varnish+water mix) The nozzle is fixed, attached to the body of the gun I can't clean it. Could you please give some advise? The paint may dry on the needle very quickly. I find your videos very helpful as a beginner. Thank you
Hi I found your video very interesting ... but to clarify things I'm just starting out, not as a paint modeller, or an artist, I'm trying to create a a banner, now I've watched many videos on how to use an airbrush, but so far yours has come up trumphs, I've kept your video for a future reference
Great video. Thank you. What is the name of that little wrench that you use to open up the bottom of the plunger assembly? In general, it would be helpful. If you name the tools or parts you are addressing. You probably rarely forget to do so, but in this case, I did not find the part of the video where you named it. I would like to search the Internet for the version of it that has one side for the eclipse and the other side for other airbrushes. Tku !
Hi mate, Thanks for your video. I've just recently purchased an airbrush and found this video really helpful, especially with the issue on tighening the rear locknut. However an issue I have now, is that the paint will come out a little bit, then stop and only air will come through. If I block the nozzle, a few bubbles appear in the paint cup, but then nothing. Any ideas on what may be causing this? Cheers
A while back I was using a Paache talon airbrush and it would bubble paint up through the trigger assembly. Paint going the right way was 50/50. Sometimes it would still spray forwards and backwards up the trigger. Other times it was only out the wrong end. Never managed to get it to permanently stop and never found a concrete explanation why it happened. Ended up getting a different brush in the end.
Great video as per usual, I use a Iwata TRN1 and when I pull the trigger for air I get nothing but it sprays paint fine. Any ideas for the reason it is doing it, thanks in advance. Michael.
Your videos are fantastic, I have just bought a very cheap battery powered airbrush to do some warhammer miniatures - do you have any beginners videos for these sorts of projects? Anyway, as an absolute newbie to an airbrush these have been really useful - none of these cheap kits come with more than the most basic of instructions.
I've just started building dioramas & model kits this year, I purchased one of the battery operated paint guns as well. Although I have nothing to compare it to, I'm still satisfied with the way it works. One tip for sure is: Don't believe what they say about enamel paint! Lol I ruined my 1st airbrush gun by using enamel modeling paint, I thinned it out even though instructions said I didnt have to, but it still ended up clogging the machine horribly!
the feeling when you dissemble your entire airbrush, clean and put it back together only to realise you needed to turn the locking nut half a turn... Thanks a lot!
This is definitely not my problem. I get little to no paint coming out, my locking nut is tight, my tip is clean and still zero paint when I pull back. I get spurts of paint but only when I rock the trigger back n forth. I have cleaned the tip extremely well. I've noticed that when I adjust the little threaded piece in the air hose connector part it sometimes helps or if I clean out the airway in that same part, but I don't understand why that prevents paint from spraying when air comes out when I press the trigger down.
I’m having the same problem. Just tore down and THOROUGHLY cleaned and dried my airbrush. Everything clean and tight as a drum. Put in some reduced golden airbrush paint (which is already good to go as is out of the bottle) = no paint coming out. Only get small spirts of paint upon moving trigger forward/turning off paint. Stumped man.
My paint was coming out fine, then I cleaned it and reassembled and it stopped spraying. The needle is moving with the trigger, if I take it apart again and drop some water inside it it flows freely through the front so there isn't any blockage. It just won't spray any paint when I pull the trigger.
Hey! I forgot to clean my airbrush yesterday and the paint stained, i cleaned everything, checked everything from the airbrush to be tight and good, but unfortunately it still doesnt want to spray paint??? Whenever i put the paint it just starts bubbling like its clogged, but im sure i cleaned everything perfectly, i think mine might be broken...
You could have some paint dried up in the front of your nozzle which is not allowing the needle to ‘seat’ properly , try cleaning it out thoroughly, leaking paint can also be caused by a flared / damaged nozzle so double check that as well 👍🏻
On my double action airbrush, when I release the lever in the air-only position, it may take 5-7 seconds for the air to shut off. Is there a fix for this?
I have just started to airbrush and I use the neo for iwata. I bought myself a paint thinner and thinned acrylic paint with it. It was very fluid and had a milky consistence. First problem was, there was only paint coming out, when i pulled the trigger button very far back. So i could only do thick paint lines with the airbrush. When pressing down for thinner lines, nothing came out. Then I thought about maybe still haveing mixed the colour too thick and cleaned everything. I have now watched plenty of videos about my airbrush and have taken it all apart, putting it back together, thousand times. Everything looks fine, as in your video, but now there is no paint coming out at all anymore. Not even when pulling the trigger to the very back. I'm very frustrated and scared, that I could have ruined everything bc there might be paint in the part at the front where its rly hard to come at with even the thinnest cleaning tool. Pls tell me that I have not broken it and that i can get the paint out of there somehow. I have put it now in a mix of glasscleaner and scouring milk. I'll let it sit in there over night and hope it works again. But can you break an airbrush when using a little too thick paint maybe?
What about when your paint is already super thin but it's still not spraying ? Like trident fluro paint, although it doesnt need thinning I still think by 20-30%. My other guns spray it but my brand new airbrush doesnt.. no tip drying, the needle moves back, paints thinned but still no paint lol, I'm confused and frustrated.
Hey airbrush asylum. I had this issue and I tightened the nut in the back but now sometimes my airbrush needle won’t go forward? I pull back and the metal bit behind the trigger doesn’t reset. Can you help me ! Thank you
Question I m new and just bought patriot 105 I had to by the adapter but the gun only sprays single action? Push button down and paint comes out. No air only?
So my eclipse stops flowing paint when I take the needle cap off. Even though even the Iwata manual says take it off for finer lines. I can see the needle moving properly and air flows. But no paint comes out. Put the cap back on..paint instantly returns.
If it’s free flowing when you press for air that may mean that the needle hasn’t seated properly, you may have some dried paint stuck which is obstructing it from seating or you have a flared or split nozzle , hole that helps 👍🏻
@@AirbrushAsylum it was dumber than that... turns out I was removing both the needle cap AND nozzle cap.. did not see the tiny little part break line and realize it was two parts :)
