yes he did get sick like all singers they have to take care of themselves they are there own click and instrument,when he made the movie with colin farrall "alexander"he was working out and training with jarred and i think that was when he could do all his songs in the proper"key" with no problems.
they're playing the song on two semitones lower (E instead of F#), probably for vocal rest, it's a pretty hard song to sing.
