Daphnis et Églé (1753) is not a piece written for the opera houses of Paris but for the private court at Fontainebleau. Away from the Paris critics, Rameau was able to experiment with more European styles and a great sense of freedom emanates from these scores - Rameau making his own journey through the culturally diverse world of the Age of Enlightenment.

Quel raffinement , quelle beauté .Je pense que l'Art Français a connu un sommet à cette époque du 18e ,et un autre encore dans la deuxième moitié du 19e .Mais ici la magie de la musique de Rameau est admirablement rendue par le génial William Christie ,qui a tout compris du mystère et de la spécificité de l'art Français .
