@@onlyhands5320 I was just at an anime convention last weekend and it made me feel alive the real world fucking sucks Thank God for anime Conventions and Fighting Game events
Just this year, I got into Tekken for the first time (ignoring my ignorant mashing in T5 as a kid), and i gotta say, I'm so glad I got into fighting games. I'm so excited for Evo.
And people say Sony/Evo tried to stop Smash to be part of EVO when they always mention Smash or feature it in some way. Nintendo don't like celebrating esport culture sadly
And yet 1st place in the top-attended game is $12k. And 7th is $450. Just weighing in. EVO is the _de facto_ climax of the entire CPT-the biggest offline SF6 event that actually gives the whole world a shot at GF, rather than being primarily dictated by where people happen to live. That's why there are over 40 attendees from Japan. We won't see that at _any_ other tournament, especially not Capcom Cup itself. But $12k is... kind of off brand.
It's not the top attended game, all 8 main games get the same 30,000 USD prize pool *minimum.* It can go up depending on the player registration numbers. Even with that boost, It still will likely be underwhelming for the biggest games like SF6 and T8. The trade-off is that Under Night 2, KOF15, and Third Strike players won't be competing for peanuts, and essentially be penalized because their game is niche.
@@mappybc6097 Oh, is there a game at EVO with higher attendance? They should have given that one (Tekken 8?) top billing then. What do you reckon the odds are of the pot bonus accounting for at least $40,600 so the prize pool can match what they had last year, at least if inflation is flat out ignored? Just from entrants, mind-no external donations.
@Asterra2 SF6 has over 5,000 players competing. That alone is more players than any other e-sport event. Even the likes of DOTA, LoL, or COD's world championships are small by comparison. As for your second question? Short answer is no. The total prize pool for SF6 last year was bumped to 70,000 USD, which meant 20k, 14k, and 10k for the 3 first prize winners. Like I said, it's underwhelming for such a big game. On the other hand, Under Night has an extremely niche scene where 200 USD is a perfectly reasonable 1st prize for a tournament with entries in the low triple digits. Having the possibility of winning 12k is mind-blowing to them.
@mappybc6097 You bring up an excellent point. The prize money for the more niche games means more than the ones that are mainstream. Plus, both Street Fighter 6 & T8 have Esports Wolrd Cup, which is offering 1 million dollars in prize money.
@@ApocalypticFartthe fact is a eSport but it doesn't feel like it. Ppl go there not only to watch others play at the main stage, but to watch side tournaments, play with others, buy shit from the booths across the event, see announcements of their favorite games and reveals, and most importantly literally anyone can participate while the rest only lets orgs compete
Hope keeps growing stronger, this is the best E-SPORT ARENA and the best games to watch and play, fighting games are finally taking the spot from other games so congrats to you guys and for more success in the future.
It's not at all, there are a grand total of 10k people at evo. You know how many people own a copy of mk alone? A lot more than 10k. This is a drop in the bucket. Evo would have to be closer to 60k people to be legit. Prize pools low as hell
Troubles by the score Everyday you love me less, each day I love you more Yes I got Evo 2024 by the numbers A love that I can't win But the day that I stop counting, that's the day my world will end
Justin had to go play another game to continue winning championships... Daigo is full street fighter champions. Sonic fox is on the same lane as Justin, with multiple games... that makes Daigo Mr. Evo
@@hypersphere Disagree. I think it's more impressive to excel and win at multiple games,. Also, Marvel games are pretty much Main Event games at EVO as well...
Have you been living under a rock for the past few years? Nintendo doesn't want Smash at Evo, even though Evo has said they would be fine having the game there.
Enough time has passed, UNI2 has new DLC. Can we now all start glazing this game like it’s the newest wave of Kagura Bachi fever? Matter of fact, spread some UNI2 love to Japan too! So strap in, get your VPNs, and go, go, go boys, tell all of EVO this: Lobotomy Kaisen is dead, and LOBOTOMY IN BIRTH IS BORN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Qualified for Soul Calibur II back in 2003 as a kid, after celebrating with friends my mom pretty much said you’re not going to LA to play a video game (from NY). Different times then. I always wonder how that would have went nowadays. Had one of the top Taki’s on the east coast and would have loved to show it off to the world. Was an inner circle vibe then, Chinatown Fair every Friday night. Insane how much it has grown. Happy for the current generation.
Evo fans we have very sad news: bonchon the former evo champion from last year’s evo is not won’t be attending this year’s evo due to severe neck pain😔😢😭
Evo is pretty much the World Cup of the Fighting Game Community
If it were every 4 years
we're getting some crossover too with more weebs which will make it a healthier business as well
olympics cause its more than just one sport / game event, only thing is its once a year
For a tournament with so much prestige, the prizepool seems so miniscule.
*Super Bowl but ok.
EVO is the EVO of fighting games, let's go
you get it
Verdade
with my life completely falling apart currently, I'm glad I have Evo to distract me for the weekend. Shout out to the fgc for real.
