  • Here's a helpful expression to turn down the intensity of a light as it turns away from the camera!
    v = -toWorldVec([0,0,1]);
    i = v[2] * value;
    Math.max(i,0);

    tracking the hilt instead of the blade was smart asl never thought of that, this is a sick method much more reliable and effective then the saber plugin, and saves time from masking every frame. thanks!

    Okay, as a 63 year old guy with a web series, i apparently have all the wrong assests, now i have to buy element 3d? i dont understand, i currently own hitfilm pro,After Effects 2020 vegas pro 18, boris continuum (current), and Mocha pro current also, and this is now the best way to do light sabers? okay..... i feel like such an idiot, not knowing i should have bought element 3d...hmmm. okay. Doesnt anyone else think this video was to fast and to difficult? i hope its not just because i am an old man? ill keep watching maybe one day you will have a tutorial video i can actually replicate with ease..... thanks guys, Pipefittermike on youtube.... ohh and i subscribed!!

      @@dr7226 as someone that has a lot of experience from buying custom and replica lightsabers, DO NOT BUY FROM ULTRASABERS! their products do not have the same quality as others at similar price points, and they do not pay their employees very well. I would recommend sites such as the pach store for a high quality, cheap lightsaber prop with lighting.

  • @TeaGamingPanda

    Gonna try this method soon! Saber can indeed become pain in the ass with turning on and off the motion blur to make it look right and sizing the ends. Went from masking to sabers to this. What an upgrade. Sabers can indeed look good...if you have time on your hands like a DeLorean or a TARDIS
    Also are you guys gonna do a tutorial on that Force lightsaber trick? LOOKS SO COOL!

  • @EzDyt
    @EzDyt ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Something you can do to make it a bit more realistic / like the new movies is to actually not use the levels effect until the saber is fully white
    motion blur lowers the exposure so if the lightsaber is so motion blurred that it becomes a big fan shape, it should be less white in the middle
    you should still adjust it a little but not to the point where it's fully white
    I'm fine with it being fully white but it isn't as realistic

    • @EyeMCreative
      @EyeMCreative 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah I was thinking the same thing. They went through all the work to 3D track and ended up just blowing it out anyways when they had perfectly realistic motion blur data. You should brighten it up a bit to match the exposure of the scene, but definitely don't clamp it to white.

  • @edgevfx
    @edgevfx 3 ปีที่แล้ว +9

    As much as I like this and think it's creative, I'd still go with the usual saber plugin, plus a few tweaks. This seems like a lot of work for a lightsaber shot...

    • @hairyguysketches9799
      @hairyguysketches9799 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's fair, but with this technique you get photorealistic motion blur and a properly placed lens flare.
      Not saying that you shouldn't use saber, it really is a great plugin that gives you a lot of control and great results, just demonstrating why this is the technique they use in hollywood.

    Working on a fan film now. It's best to use a neopixel blade.

    • @EyeMCreative
      @EyeMCreative 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      They work great in the dark, but what if you're outside on a sunny day? You'll still need to add some VFX on top of them in most cases or they'll just feel like an LED and not a blade of energy. Corridor Digital has a really good method in the BTS of their more recent lightsaber video "To The Death" a couple years ago. They used compositing in DaVinci Resolve (could probably be done in AE too though) to essentially key/select the bright blades and add some additional brightness, glow, and flicker. It's probably the best method I've seen for lightsabers because it doesn't require any rotoscoping/tracking, but still, it doesn't work well in bright sunlight.

    Hi all. Just wanted to check if Crates Glow is the same as Crates Radiant Glow? Crates Glow is a script but from the tutorial it looks like a plug in.
    In any case Crates Glow script is rotating my saber effect. Should I apply the script before adjusting the position of the lightsaber?
    Anyways I just discovered this channel and your webpage. Great stuff! Looking forward to checking your other content. Thanks again!
