  • Both Halo and SpotOn dog collars are expensive. The SpotOn starts at around $1500 and the Halo dog collars at $649. This doesn't include the subscription services that are paid monthly allowing you to take full advantage of the features, training, support, and connectivity.
When we priced out our property on 1/2 acre and wired invisible fence, the cost was over $2500, I honestly felt like it was a gouge, but realized there is more to it than just installing the lines (if you look online the "average prices" are only quoting the wires).
There is the cost of the unit it's connected to and of course the collars. Some dog owners value the consistency and predictability of the wired fence, and quite frankly, I get it. The collar works on a very simple "radio" based feedback solution. Looking at Halo and SpotOn are much more complicated devices with technology that can be confusing or unpredictable. Was it the cell service? Where are we with our satellite connection? Are there hardware issues? How much tree coverage do I have? is it interferring?

I'm reading on the Halo site that the collar is for dogs 20lbs plus? Is this correct, not for smaller dogs?

Yes 20 lbs is the cut off.

How about the SpotOn? I live in Alaska and have a big yard including forest. I have a 17/18 very stubborn Boston terrier. Will it work for her? Thank you
