    I love Kreg stuff! I can diy only because of their pocket hole jig. This one has some features that just make you want to upgrade! What's wrong with plastic...less rust if you ask me! If anyone manages to have any damage with this stuff, it is more than likely from abuse not proper use. Nice unboxing and demo, I am sure it will serve you well!

    • @FixitFingers
      @FixitFingers 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes Im not sure about all the "plastic" hate out there. Plus like metal, there is good stuff and bad stuff. Kreg uses the good stuff. Then again some folk just like to hate on pocket holes because they are too "easy"... yet love their Dominos 🤷‍♂️😅 There is a time and place for every tool and material. The trick is knowing when and where 😁 This thing is pretty cool, but as long as you are happy with your current one resist as best you can 😉

    Probably the best review I’ve seen on the jig mate, I’m wanting to do one on mine ( not the pro ) & I love it but I think other reviewers that have done the Pro review haven’t set it up properly.
    Great work old chum 👍👍👍😉

      Cheers Sumo. I forgot to mention the little fold out legs for the regular version so you should go for it too ;) I have a few little question marks that will be answered over the next couple of months then we can compare it to the K5 and K4 to see how it stacks up!

      Sumo Jim said at the start of the review that this review was "Not a review per se" and in the middle of the review he said about the review "as I said this is not a review" but I thought this review was a great review too - definitely the best review I've seen on this jig too. And I'll say the word review a couple more times just for good measure :) review reveiw .. oh shit . spelt that last one wrong.

      @@TakamiWoodshop I like 'overview' as a review would imply you've used it enough to work out the strengths and weaknesses. However, with 3 years experience with the predecessors I think you can offer a few insights off the bat 😉

      @@FixitFingers and you can do another vid of it as well. YOu could do three technically just by riffing off the word 'view' with all the prefixes - preview, overview, review. Then you could move onto 'visit' : first visited, revisited, and maybe throw in a pre-analysis, analysis and post-analysis. YOu need heaps of cabinets in your shop don't you? 😉

      Maybe they need an importer... just saying ;) It's pretty awesome, if you are new to pocket holes it is a no-brainer. The interesting question I find is will it be worth the cost to upgrade from the K4 or K5 if you already own one.... I'll let you know in a few months ;)

      @@FixitFingers I was wrong, there are a few small Kreg importers in Denmark, and Kreg Europe headquarters are set up in Germany now. I'm new to using pocketholes, but I see them all over YT.

    A great introduction and demonstration James. I could have done with one of those half a century ago instead of going through the dovetail and mortice and tenon joint systems which were hand tool based and considered the only way! That was in the days of non-sustainable timber and [for the average chap] a basic electric drill was the only use of electricity for woodworking apart from a light to see by! Even my wheel grinder was turned by crank and gear!
    Many thanks James! 🎬👍

      @FixitFingers 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Now young Eryk I can see that silvered tongue of yours lodged firmly in the left cheek comparing traditional joinery to the quick satisfaction delivered by these modern tools, but I appreciate the sentiments all the same 😉 Coming from the generation raised on more convenient joinery options offered by novel technology and materials it gives an allure to the skill required by my forebears to produce what they did, how they did, with the timber and tools available. The greatest gift the modern woodworker has in my opinion is choice. There is a Venn diagram of time, skill, and cost somewhere I am sure that surmises my views, though I am positive most here can conjure its image to mind with little effort. All the best!

    That pocket hole jig looks the business 👍 . If only it could adjust the depth of drill as well. I ruined my first pocket hole drill bit when I changed the width of the stock, but forgot to change the drill depth!

    • @FixitFingers
      @FixitFingers 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The bit adjustment is now much faster too. I put small holes in both my K4 and K5 by forgetting to adjust something... Hopefully those days are behind me 😂

      That'll be a good step up. No, I've not had a play with the 520, I don't really have need of it with the 720 in the shop. It is better for portable pocket-holes, but I've got the old K3 jig for those. Kreg may send me one to play with one day, but otherwise unlikely I'll review that model 😊

      Cheers Bill! Im not a fan of reviews before you actually use the damn thing 😄 There is overlap between 'first impressions' and review for sure, and as this is my 3rd Kreg jig I can instantly see some strengths and weaknesses in it compared to other models. It obviously does the job it is designed for but I'll give it a good breaking in and see how it holds up over time before I declare it worth the price-tag, especially if you already own a predecessor. Thanks mate!
