Damn what timing! I just bought my '05 AP2 haha. I've been loving the absolute crap out of this car. Despite how expensive it is, I think it's worth owning once
Same, mate. I bought an 04 in August for $15.5k w/ only 60k miles. The seller was kind of desperate for the money because he needed immediate work done on his house. My first S2K and man I'm loving this thing!
I cringe when people say “this is the way it should have come from factory”, when they have modified it to have lightning fast throttle response, lighter flywheel, heavy clutch… The S2000 is already a pretty raw driving experience even stock. Honda made it that way on purpose, but it’s still meant to be driven normally in normal everyday traffic. I love VTEC, but it doesn’t need to kick in yo before 4000 rpm. That’s like normal cruising rpm in these.
It depends on your setup.. And it depends how you want the car to drive and have the torque delivered.. For me, I prioritize torque and midrange on the street, so having lower vtec to get the air flowing is ideal so you can be moving at lower rpm.. You will sacrifice top end, but its all about how you want to drive the car.. I have the best of both worlds in the dc5.. Its awd, 600whp, k20A Type R head and K24a2 bottom end. Vtec comes in at 4500rpm, and it revs to 9k and pulls all the way to redline. Its a Wonderful car to drive daily too because it has such great torque. Yeah, it doesnt have that crazy 6k rpm crossover, but I dont really want that either.
It's true. My vtec is set to 4500rpm at Wot, and the engagement is so smooth that you can hardly tell vtec is engaging. The mid-range torque is nice, and it still pulls hard all the way to redline.
Hey Cam, I’ve been a follower for a few years now (my daily is an ‘18 fk8) but my (just finished) project is ‘73 bmw 2002 with an ‘07 AP2 engine. The engine is an absolute beast and as much as I love my K20c1, the F22c1 is so much more enjoyable for me. The sounds, the feel, and that redline always hit the spot. So one more vote from me on getting an s2k 🤚 Good luck and keep up the content!
Had many hot cars (and motorcycles) in my 69 years. I've had my 2000 S2000 21 years and this is, and will be, the only car I'll never sell. Most previous owners that I know are always quick to remind me that it's the only car they never should have sold. As we all know there is nothing like it..
I test drove an AP1 at a dealership about 6 months after getting my 2017 Si and learning how to drive manual. I got cocky and I thought I could drive anything with a stick at that point. Boy was I wrong. The RPMs drop like a rock in the S2000. I roasted the clutch so bad. I looked at the salesman before getting out of the parking lot and said “this is completely different than my Si” You’re really not going that fast in the s2000, but even 40 mph feels like a rocket ship because you feel everything.
@@JonHop1 i didn’t ruin it. Got it warm enough to smell though. He didn’t seem happy, but it was an AP1 that they had for over 2 yrs with a rebuilt trans and motor.

Own a fk8 and ap2. No regrets, however, I do plan on getting rid of my fk8 and keeping my ap2 for a very very long term. S2k is much more rewarding. I track both cars too
The owner is right about slowing down your shift speed. Older gearboxes don't really like to be hurried, you should grip the shifter lightly and feel it go into gear. You'll blow out the synchros prematurely. I have friends who shift like this and it drives me crazy.
To clarify, a proper header will ALWAYS increase HP on these NA Honda motors.. What I think he might be talking about is losing torque and midrange? I gained over 30hp from a cheap ebay header.. but I did lose down low, but gained a lot up top..
I used to daily mine 90 miles a day on a 4-12 schedule AND I tracked it. Was my dream car for 15 years. She's sitting in the garage now with a nice 166k miles on it. I'm keeping that car for life.

Beautiful car Cameron! It’s a tight squeeze for my 6’3 frame but would still love to get one someday. Hopefully the rumors are true that Honda is planning on bringing it back(swing for the fences!)before we all go full electric in the future…🥀
Even if they bring it back it will never be the same because safety and emissions regulations will kill the spirit and essence of the s2k. I do hope they bring it back because it will make people realize how good the original s2k was.
@@sengvang3718 I’m sure you’re right unfortunately but let’s all cross our fingers that Honda will produce an S2000 that will honor the original while also adhering to the current automotive standards. I can do a legit full Costco run in the 22+ BRZ with the seats down. S2K or Miata? Unfortunately, not possible.
A full size golf bag fits in the trunk of my S2000, and a folding push cart goes on the front seat. I’d say a pretty good space for my use 😀
