I’m quite literally under pressure right now because I have 5 weeks to completely learn this and then play it in front of 100 people and I have little guitar experience but I can’t let my friend down
It went very very well. I was able to learn it and perform with my friend. I crammed and tried to learn basic guitar skills for hours on end. I thought it would be impossible. The nerves kicked in even more because before the song started my friend announced that this was one of the first songs I’d ever learned on guitar. But the live performance was my best one. My fingers were blistered and previously bloody because I had little experience but now I’m used to it and continue to play guitar in my free time. Thanks for asking
@@jessthemsy7916 cool! I was in a simmilar situation, birthday party learned the intro fine but forgot the chords mid song, just played it quieter and just being veeeeery confident. Only musicians noticed, the rest was fine!
hey Carl, i have so much to thank you, your lessons are so great! I've learnd must of my favorite songs at your channel... you've done a great great job...
Very efficient lesson. However, I think the studio version is in open G tuning. May uses the open 1rst string to play the D note throughout the whole riff. It's especially clear in the 3rd bar on the G/D chord where you can here the D note being played once on the 3rd string and immediately afterwards on the 1rst. However, this is obviously a detail since even May himself doesn't play it that way live. Your analysis hits the backbone of the piece. Thanks :)
Sorry to butt in 2 years after this was posted, but all the "he played it higher on the recording" stuff isn't quite right. It's simply a 12-string guitar overdubbed so the lower two notes of the main riff have octaves on them. It's obvious if you listen closely, and I just did a quick googling to have it confirmed by May himself in an interview. So yeah, he varies it, but it's the 12-string that makes the higher magic on the original.
Hi Carl, this really sounded great. Were you using any effects when you were playing this? Sounded like some reverb and some delay, maybe? Sounded perfect and clean. Thank you!
great video. I love this song since the first time I heard it. I'd like to ask you do listen to a song that is not internationally famous: it is called "20 anos blue", by Elis Regina... the guitar line is very very soft...
I have! It's a 2 part lesson. You can find both parts here in my Jeff Buckley playlist. Enjoy! Carl th-cam.com/play/PLOBqO_KghqI7S10MFDBR-jFtCn7jlq7pJ.html
Hi Carl...Absolutely love your lessons. I look out for them everyday when I log into YouTUbe. There are practically no lessons for Gary Moore pre-blues (Besides Shapes of Things). Would love to learn Don't Take Me For a Loser, Victims of the Future, Cold Hearted, or Out in the Fields (or all LMAO!!!)...

Does anyone have any idea how Brian May got that guitar sound for this song in the recording..??
Per GUITAR WORLD, it was May’s “Red Special” guitar, bridge and middle pickups, in phase. Most likely a Vox AC30 amp.
Hallelujah by jeff buckley, the intro is beautiful and it would mean the world to me...
