- This was our first time reacting to IU and we were in awe and sad with how beautiful this music video was and how well they performed in it. V being just an actor and having no singing parts was surprising but fun to be able to just see him act.

Hello, 58 year old ARMY from Tennessee, USA! I wanted to tell you what the MV Director stated about the meaning of this. I am paraphrasing as I have not seen the original statement, but I have read it many, many times in various comment sections. Loose interpretation: the cube represents discrimination in a broad sense. In the MV, V is blind in one eye and possibly deaf since IU does sign to him. But, it also seems that she is mute because she signs the entire time. If you rewatch, you’ll notice that the people with their faces covered are actually heckling V and IU. They are making fun of them and judging them just like society too often does to those who are perceived as different, “less than”, marginalized, etc. The title of the song was even changed from its originally announced “Love Wins” to “Love Wins All”. The reason for the change was to respect the LGBTQ community who coined the original phrase to represent their community years ago. When IU and her team found out, they literally changed it the following day stating that they want to respect everyone’s love. This is all such a beautiful message to the world which desperately needs to learn to love everyone, including ourselves. As a side note, this is also one of the core messages that BTS has included in their music for years. There are 3 albums (plus one other album released for the Japanese market and sang in Japanese) which are dedicated to the process of discovering love, feeling confusion and heartbreak because of love and ultimately learning that we can’t love others until we learn to love ourselves. Oh, just one more thing. All ARMYs gasped when they walked into the abandoned building and first saw the pile of clothes. In BTS’s “Spring Day” MV, they used a pile of clothes similar to this to represent lives lost in life. But, it was also almost certainly used as a commentary on the corruption of the South Korean government officials who tried to cover up the corruption that lead to the Sewol Ferry tragedy. Over 300 people, mostly students on a field trip, lost their lives when the ship sank because of illegal modifications and for carrying way over their legal load weight. In 2010, French artist, Christian Boltanski, presented an art installation consisting of a mountain of clothes which represents people who have passed away. So, for anyone who was aware of the concept, this MV was extremely emotional right from the beginning. This was long, but I hope it gives you some insight and even more respect for the song and MV. I am going to tell that what you have suggested is totally incorrect. It is incorrect on several fronts. 1st off IU wrote the lyrics and Produced the MV. This means that the ideas and vision of the MV are hers. So then the most important source is IU herself. So what does IU have to say about the song? Well she posted a letter on her company website about the song and also about her mini album, which she stated has 5 songs two of which were LOVE songs, including Love Wins All, and that she is dedicating them to the people she loves especially her fans.
She said of this song and I quote "I'm telling a story of those who will struggle for love in a world that comes in the way of Love.
So far we can tell one thing for certain about this song. It topic is about LOVE. What comes in the way of Love is not even addressed, it is about Love winning period. Not about love winning against a specific thing, that would limit the scope of the story and make it more of a political statement and that is definitely NOT IU intent.
She does address what comes in the way of love, but as you will clearly see the enemy of Love is Hate. All hate not a specific kind or type. Which brings me to this point. Discrimination is NOTE hate. Discrimination is a choice between multiple options. Everyone discriminates everyday of their lives. You discriminate when you decide to what to wear, what to eat, who your friends are, where you work who you talk too etc etc etc. To claim or suggest that this video has to do with discrimination against people with disabilities is ridiculous on its face. It that were the case the subject of the video would be discrimination and not Love. It also begs the question then where are all of the non disabled people? We see no wheelchairs, crutches, artificial limbs among the pile of clothes. There is nothing in the lyrics that mention or even suggest that disabilities plays and role in what is happening to the people.
IU say in her letter " Some say this is the age of great hate. Surely, love may not be everywhere in these days. Hoping triumph from love, which is invisible, as a weapon in this grey world growing colder with vivid hostility and apathy seems ridiculous at times. However, from my experience, hatred is always alone even when it appears to be running the show. On the other hand, love is unrelentingly together though it may be falling apart, running and fading away. Love has a good chance of winning.
Again IU is talking big picture. The hate she is talking about is not limited to how people with disabilities are treated. To suggest that is an insult to her and the much much bigger question she is addressing.
Most of this comes from an article a guy wrote. In the article he claims that EDAM posted a guide to the song. There is no guide posted by EDAM. IU videos are often very complex with the use of metaphors, imagery and symbolism. And almost without exception the very 1st explanations that come out aren't even close to the true meaning of the song. This was the case with Eight, Celebrity, Lilac, even BBIBBI which is about as direct as you can get in its messaging but people still missed its point.
The reactors here also missed some basic aspects of the video, which is understandable since it usually take several viewing of an IU MV to fully understand it and catch all the things that were missed. For example, it is IU who is deaf and mute. In point of fact IU is suffering from a condition in her left ear, where the tube from the middle ear to the throat remains open causing pain and making it so you can't hear yourself. But regardless, IU is not claiming to be the subject of discrimination.
The word discrimination is become so abused it's no wonder that people are miss using it. Again discrimination doesn't mean hate in any way. The word that means hate is bigotry. If people could really be prevented from using, what is in fact a useful tool and provides protection, we would all wear the same thing, live in the same type and style house, eat the same food for every meal. We could NEVER make any decisions between different options or choices. Because to do so woukd be to discriminate.
Dick's Sporting Goods has at the entrance to their stores the most ridiculous sign I have ever seen and it points to the ignorance of their leadership. It says that Dick's doesn't tolerate discrimination in any form. Oh really? That is an out and out lie. Every purchase decision they make, every hiring decision they make they are discriminating against the product they didn't buy or the candidate they didn't hire. What they really mean is that they dont tolerate discrimination based on several specifics criteria like race, religion, national origin. And that is questionable at best but that's a different topic. But they most certainly discriminate regarding the what they see as the qualifications for the job, what they think will sell in their stores. Those decisions are all make based on applying discriminating criteria.
Backed to the video. The things the Director stated, if he actually did state then are his own view and not the view of the person who created the song and the story line. Selecting a cube as the evil that is trying to destroy love is intentional for it can represent anything, but we never see any evidence that it is making a decision between anything. If the cubes were just out to destroy people with disabilities why are they destroying the city? The view of the city from the hole in the wall shows a city in ruin. Which during this scene IU's lyrics call the curves the Ruiners can also be translated the destroyers. Not the discriminaters.
To reduce this master piece to being about discrimination is has offensive as it is wrong. It's about LOVE and loving someone no matter what. Their injuries or disabilities provide another way for them to Express their love, not a qualifier to victimhood.
IU is an idols idol. Koreas daughter.
The song is gorgeous and her voice is beautiful. The MV is a masterpiece. Both their acting is fantastic.
IU and V are good friends. They're adorable in the behind-the-scenes, like siblings. They have performed a duet together called "Ending Scene". A lovely song, with her clear angelic voice and his smooth deep baritone.
IU and Suga are also great friends. They have two songs together. The first is her song "eight", where he featured, co-written, and produced. The second is his song "People Pt. 2". Both songs have MVs and live performances.
Moral of the story: Immediately look for the person you love, regardless of limitations, and experience all the happiness you can with them because the world could end at any moment. 💜💟

Right after the video was done, you just sat there stunned. No words were needed because it was an honest reaction.
Of course the video is open for interpretation which makes it such a masterpiece, but I do tend to think that it was IU who was the one who was hearing impaired. You will notice when they are on the stage that IU is holding the microphone, but she isn't singing. When V comes close she holds the microphone to his mouth and he sings to her. Of course that is just my opinion, you are free to see the video as you wish to see it :)
As a big IU fan (and V fan) - guarantee given your reaction to this song you will love IU’s music and other MVs and live performances and her TH-cam content. She really is the best… also her dramas like Hotel eel Luna and My Mister on Netflix. She is an award-winning actress also.

Great Reaction! I love IU's MV and IU and TaeTae's acting was excellent. TaeTae was blind in one eye and IU was deaf/mute, but they saw the beauty of each other. They looked normal to each other when they looked at each other through the camera. The evil cube sees them as inferior or imperfect and wants to destroy them. At the end you could see smoke rising so yes I believe the evil cube was burning them because you could see their ashes in camera view while their clothes were being lifted on the pile of clothes. Our handsome and multi-talented TaeTae definitely needs to do another K-drama. If you haven't seen K-drama Hwarang you definitely need to see it. It stars TaeTae, Park Hyung-sik and Park Seo-Joon. You watch it because TaeTae is in it, but end up falling for the whole cast. IU's voice is so angelic and she looked so beautiful in the wedding gown. TaeTae and IU need to do a K-drama together if possible when TaeTae is done with military duty. Be Blessed!

Correct me if I am wrong but I think IU said she wrote it for her fans. I think it is a sweet commentary of their parasocial relationship. My interpretation is IU is IU and V is Uaena (her fans). The cubes are trolls/ media. In the MV, she is deaf/mute, he is partially blind - it may seem there is no fathomable way these two can understand each other. However, whether separated by language (she cannot hear/speak) or distance (he cannot see), they communicate about sweet memories (about macron's and taking pictures) and laugh much like inside jokes between IU and her fans or photos at fan meetings. They both have scars of criticism or scandals over the years. At its end the trolls/ media come to consume another artist and fandom and discard it like a pile of clothes and IU is ready to fight but V (the fans) steps in front of her to defend her and their bond, but they are met with a bitter end. A sad reality every artist must face someday. She shields V's good eye to protect him from the inevitable. I think she understands the way it is but is happy to set out on the journey with her fans anyway. I think of her lyric "Will you courageously set with me? Destroy me slowly and chilly, ruiner"; OR this is just about her and her boyfriend, and her asking for some privacy, not sure haha.😭
