Its wonderful to see a metal guitarist who understands melodic playing can sometimes occur at speeds much less than a million notes per second! Most metal bands don't understand that, it's part of the reason why I lost my love of metal music after the heyday of those great Dream Theater albums from the 90's. I hope Ola is turning himself into the next Petrucci of our time, the next great melodic metalhead!!! Keep it up man, the world needs more like you!!
Truth. I actually did the same cover but with pure software (BIAS),. and I think it is accurate, maybe not my playing but the tone. just in case you want to check it: th-cam.com/video/qRXwUZcm4tk/w-d-xo.html
Ola didn’t imagine that in two years he’ll interview John Petrucci via Skype. Cool guitar 🎸 I especially like that the “Ibanez” logo has a dark gold color.
What a great song, what a great cover! Am learning this aswell and this helps a lot, seeing how you play it and tweaking my own play here and there... Thanks a lot!!
I love how you put effort into nailing the appropriate tone and feel for each cover you do, your heart is totally in it. I hate when others don’t. It’s like watching someone do Iron Maiden covers that sound and feel like Metallica, no effort.
Amazing! A Dream Theater Masterpiece Album, for sure. Good and honorable cover. Great. I played for hours and hours that album along. But I cannot play like JP. No one does. But this teachs you a lot. And it's so fun. "If I die tomorrow, Ill be alright 'cause I believe that" Ola can play E standard along. :P Cheers,
One take. Jesus Christ. There are two small parts of this song that trip me up with the timing. That little sweep that slides down into the last unison part towards the end and the transition out of the riff between the solos (the chromatic part into the triplet run)..so freaking hard to slow down and figure out what is going on. This is flawless.
Actually you don't need an old Ibanez to sound like that. It's just a matter of buying Indonesian made and upgrade to Dimarzios and some good tremolo stabilizer. I did that with my white RG350DXZ and at that point it was just a matter of twiking the correct settings on the AMP.
The video he once did with the then new mesa mark V was one of his best of all time tone wise as well, with the tone to match the song, smooth as fuck, very petrucci-esque.
Awesome playing. It's not often I watch full covers of songs. But I enjoyed this very much! Dat tone! I knew already that your rythm playing was crazy but this actually surprised me a little!
Man, you just need to buy an Ibanez Indonesian made, updage with Dimarzios and some good tremolo stabilizer, and then buy a blackstar HT5R and a delay pedal. I know it's not the same tone, but you will get some actually huge tone! You can get all that gear without selling your house!!!
No, imo the 4 sounds completely different from the 2c+. It has a more soft/liquid sound, it lacks the raw aggression that the 2c+ imo have. It still sounds phenomenal, don't get me wrong (i actually prefer the 4 for the leads) but when it comes to percussive sounds for riffs, the 2c+ remains unbeaten. Even the 2c+ mode on the mark V still doesn't offer that in your face aggressive tone. Never tried the new petrucci signature, so i cannot comment on that beast.
Davide Pannone have you tried the "IIC+ setting" on a IV and compared it to a IIC+? Because I have and they sound almost identical. Also, all IIC+ sound different due to the hand made transformers used for each one.
Exactly. The 4 and the IIC+ are barely comparable just because they're 2 very different amps structurally. They sounds yes similar, i never said they sound completely different (they're still both from the mark serie) but they do sound different. Not to mention both the 2c+ and the 4 received more than a revision over the years. It's like comparing apples and oranges. Both fruit but they're different in their very core. I've never owned a 2c+ as they're hard as hell to come by but i have played it plenty since my guitar teacher used to own one back in the day and i was never able to recreate that iconic 2c+ upper mid growl without making the 4 sound either too "nasal" or too thin/bright compared to the 2c+. Btw, the IV has no 2c+ setting, it's the 5 that has it.
Davide Pannone well, I happen to own a Mk IV and one of my best friends has a IIC+ and a iV and we manage to make then sound almost identical. With the V is different story. It sounds nothing like a iIC+ or a IV. The secret to make a IV sound like IIC+ is in the switches on the back, not the knobs.
Damn.. those Mark IIC 's are freakin expensive amps....you must be doing well my friend!!!! Ive been looking for one of these at a working man's price for a very long time. Didnt know you had one. Sounds freakin' awesome!
Yay. Ola in E standard.
JiTiAr35 it's definitely like coming home after you've been in drop for a while
LOL! He got a great tone, not actually JP tone but pretty amazing one.
@@gen-xennial3826 I mean the gear is the same but half of your tone comes from the fingers, and ALL of us, including Ola, damn wish they had Petrucci's fingers.
JiTiAr35 wait that’s illegal
And yay Ola playing Solos 👍

You're listening to the wrong bands then, lol
Al Truist, To become a Petrucci they need to be born) If he himself came up with something like this
JunkieMonkey321 he probably thinks nu metal is all the 2000s got to offer

Takes me back, I used to jam along to this every day
Ola didn’t imagine that in two years he’ll interview John Petrucci via Skype. Cool guitar 🎸 I especially like that the “Ibanez” logo has a dark gold color.
This made me happy. I remember learning this over ten years ago and never finished. I need to finish learning it!
What a great song, what a great cover!
Am learning this aswell and this helps a lot, seeing how you play it and tweaking my own play here and there... Thanks a lot!!
One of my all time favorite DT tunes. Thanks Ola!
Good job Ola! Although I will say not continuing through Strange Deja Vu is a crime!
SUBCONSCIOUS STRANGE SENSATION
UNCONSCIOUS RELAXATION

I am waiting for John Petrucci to write something on this video
I love how you put effort into nailing the appropriate tone and feel for each cover you do, your heart is totally in it. I hate when others don’t. It’s like watching someone do Iron Maiden covers that sound and feel like Metallica, no effort.
Oh gosh my fav DT album, so cool to hear this from you!
Amazing!
A Dream Theater Masterpiece Album, for sure.

A more tender side of Ola is shown here. Beautiful.
You definitely DESTROYED this cover, Ola. FANTASTIC work my friend, I'm sure JP approves.
If only those old ibanezes weren’t so damn expensive.
Cornelius Larsen Proud to say I still own the rare JPM P4. Still an amazing guitar to this day. I think I got the first one to arrive in the UK
I have a 1989 RG750 (bought new) and never ever see any for sale.
Actually you don't need an old Ibanez to sound like that.

I own an old Picasso Seven strings version... it’s just perfect
Chapter 7 The Best of Times stabilizer for what? Never had a issue with a properly set up lo pro, or edge
I'm a simple man - I see Ola playing DT, I smash "like" button
It is not often you hear someone play John Petrucci as well as JP himself! Awesome job brother!

The video he once did with the then new mesa mark V was one of his best of all time tone wise as well, with the tone to match the song, smooth as fuck, very petrucci-esque.

Ola, that was amazing.
that was so awesome, but i couldn't see what was going on because of the camouflage finish. stealth shredding next level dood. tight tone!
DAT GLORIOUS UPPER MIDRANGE GROWL ONLY MARK IIC+ HAS THO
You can get that growl pretty much with any mark (from the IIC+ and on)
No, imo the 4 sounds completely different from the 2c+. It has a more soft/liquid sound, it lacks the raw aggression that the 2c+ imo have.
