    If you look carefully, you will see that square bracket on the opposite end of the motor actually has a slot on top.
    You can mount a mini saw blade, put that bracket over the top and in turns it in to a mini table saw.

      You’re welcome. It’s a hobby that I look forward to returning home from vacations to get back into the construction! (Referring to my ship building 🏴‍☠️). I just document the tools I acquire as I go along. Some I follow up later if the work better or worse. My most used mini tool is the miniature belt sander!
      The lathe is used, but not as much.
      Thanks for taking the time to write 👍👍.

    Hi Dan, for repetitive shapes like cannons you might want to make a template out of card or plastic which is half the profile of the cannon. You then put it up against the barrel being made, this makes everything consistent and there is less need for constant measuring. Hope that makes sense!

    • @BoilerDan1
      @BoilerDan1  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      That's a great idea! I will definitely use it! I had resigned myself to them each being a little different, but the plastic template will help them be similar enough that any slight variation won't (shouldn't be noticeable) ...

    • @BoilerDan1
      @BoilerDan1  3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I wanted to give you an update on my cannons. Earlier tonight I was successful in making a cannon that exceeded my expectations! I plan on using it to create the 1/2 split version on plastic and see if I can duplicate it!
      Thanks again for the guidance! Much appreciated 👍👍

      Thanks for taking the time to comment 👍. I just ordered a rock polishing tumbler….. Not to polish rocks, I’m hoping to use it to distress the sail material for my ships! I’ll post something on how well it works!
      Maybe you can partner with your other half and share that type tool too 😂👍

    Hi Dan , being a complete beginner with wooden ships your channel is a great help. I have looked at similar lathes and I believe the black part on the end of the bed is a table saw attachment the saw blade protrudes through the slot. Keep up the good work.

    • @BoilerDan1
      @BoilerDan1  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hmmm, interesting! On a side note, I’ve been working on making miniature cannon barrels and finally come up with a better way to make them on the mini lathe! I start with a 1/8” dowel and instead of using the lathe tools, I just use a strip of sand paper! It’s working great! I’ll show the results in an upcoming video.... But it will be a few weeks before I can get it done... I’m on a two week vacation. Stay tuned 👍
      Thanks for watching and taking the time to keep me informed!

    More specific, the table saw conversion thing is for jewelry making. Cutting Jump Rings. 1.02 mm Wire wrapped around a Mandrel then cut w sawblade vertically, you end up w a bunch of small rings each w a cut through it. People usually make Chain Maille or Necklaces.

      The lathe is probably the funniest tool yet! I really like the potential of the cannons! With practice I hope to get good enough that they match better.
      Good to make balusters Or bases for a lot of things! I’m guessing with your talent, the possibilities are endless!
      The little power pack that came with it works for me. I do need better tools to shape with!

    That's awesome. I been looking to get a small lathe. I gonna start making and painting poppen bugs to fly fish for Bass and Bream with. I think that size lathe will be all I need. Thanks for sharing this video with us. It's been a BIG help to me. Thanks and Marry Christmas 🎄!!

    • @BoilerDan1
      @BoilerDan1  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You’re welcome. I agree, it’s perfect for what you want to make! You’ll need to make or find good quality cutting tools. I’ve found that a small knife works better than the ones that came with it. Maybe even filing a hardened steel nails combined with a wood handle? I’m sure that if you are creative enough to design the flies, you’ll come up with some cutting tools!
      Thanks for watching 👍👍
      Merry Christmas to you too. Maybe you’ll get a mini lathe under your tree this year!

    Hey Dan, have u ever considered making your Replica Ships sea worthy? Make a complete RControl model? That would be epic. btw i think Pirates didn't steal their Cannons, they basically stole the whole Ship! Ahoy and away Matey!

    • @BoilerDan1
      @BoilerDan1  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Ahoy,
      I’m kinda landlocked, but if I had a nice sized pond in me backyard I’d consider the sea worthy ship build….
      However it would take a lot of pine tar sealing as my planking skills still need some serious improvement or she would drop to the bottom with anchor 😂🏴‍☠️…..
      I’d be better off just stealing one that someone else built!

    I think the piece with a slit might be there as a small table for saw. you can attach a small sawblade or a grinding disc on a shaft in the drill and place the part over it.

  • @RandomakerYT

    You can take of that metal piece that was getting in your way of moving the tailstock. It is a table so you can use the lathe as either a table saw or disk sander.

    Hi thanks for sharing your work and expertise. I recently bought on of these lathes (not the same one but very similar made out of blue sheet metal). Same motor and power set up. Within 10 minutes the motor stopped working. Let it sit for about 10 mins and it turned back on but was very spotty and inconsistent and surging. Not sure if it’s the motor or the variable power pack or the combination of the two. It’s too bad because I really wanted this thing to be reliable for small parts. Any ideas or workaround related to the motor you could suggest?

      The only trouble I had was the connection tabs were lose. So it did similar symptoms that you described.
      I took long nose pliers and crimped the wire connectors tight. I’m interested in knowing if that works for you too? I’ve been using mine and have not had any problems since tightening the little plug connectors 😃.

    The rear cage is for a table saw shield. You can put a cut off wheel style shaft into the chuck and use it as a deadly sketchy saw lol

    Dan, your little toos can be sharpen by hand in a few minutes with a few grades of auto Sandpapers and some red and green rough for the final 'hone' all done freehand.
    Also buy a lathe from Sherline or Taig then you can make real cannons!

    What tool do you have in the chuck that's inserted into the Cannon?

    • @BoilerDan1
      @BoilerDan1  ปีที่แล้ว

      On the chuck end, it comes with a shaft that has a small threaded end that goes into the wood. On the opposite side, it’s a cone shape. So you drill a centered indentation (Or hole) that it seats in.
      I’ve also used a better screw and made my own shaft thingy.

    I just purchased my mini lathe basically for making model car wheels and tires.
    The black cover for the tail stock is used for a mini saw blade that spins around to meet the headstock cover to convert the lathe to a saw. Thats the only reason it is there. You don't necessarily have to have that cover over the tail stock when latheing. Yes it does get in the way! Lol

    • @BoilerDan1
      @BoilerDan1  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Unfortunately it’s quite a bit smaller than 1/2”. The shank is smaller than a standard size so I doubt that you could replace the chuck with a larger one.
