Thank you! I'd say the 505 is the one that is capable enough and sounds dirtier. The 303 has far less features and the 909 a much cleaner sound. So probably go for 505. Workflow is nice but needs a bit of workout here and there. The EMX1 by Korg is probably even better and very fluent workflow-wise. Definitely check that one out too.
@@touiarrial5823 Anytime, my dude. Id say the EMX1 has the most "modern" workflow. The 505 is sometimes a little slow (but there's a lot more polyphony and a huge character). I think both are great for arranging your songs from the start till the end.
Just had mine now got to RTFM and understand if is better master or slave..I have two blackbox 1010 so maybe is better put d 505 in the center and use it as sound module? Mixer works if sounds are triggered from external? Thanks for d oldskull vibes!

Very different from eachother! The Korgs are monophonic, the MC-505 has up to 64 voices, so you can play chords. Much better sequencer with up to 32 measures per pattern in the MC-505. Completely different sound but both great, complement eachother nicely. The MC is not as easy to use and a lot more complex though. I have all of them and made many videos to give info and show people how to use them.
MC-505 is more of a production box comparing to EMX/ESX being more immediate groveboxes, however the faders and general input interface offers a different experience so by no means is it worse, in fact i love having ADSR in slider format and d-beam is very playable and having knob per function for some things is great. "Is it worth getting?" - you can't ask that someone else expecting a meaningful answer. I have most Electribes and still got MC-505 and Yamaha RM1x (and will probably get RS7000 at some point) and like them for different reasons. Considering this stuff is no longer as expensive as it used to, I'd say give it a go. Get either MC-505 or MC-909.
@@LousyFacelift Uh yeah, the infamous pixel disappearance. The good news is, that in majority of instances it's not the LCD at all - it's the ribbon cable which delaminates with age due to poor design of the connection between the ribbon and the LCD under repeatedly heated up and cooled down conditions. Those who decided to replace the whole LCD often enjoy the change of the color as well, i.e: I've seen blue LCDs used for that. There are a few vids here on TH-cam on how to either fix or replace the LCD also. EMX/ESX definitely win in that respect. The best part however is that there is a free MC-505 service manual floating on internet with all schematics and part numbers - something that is very rare and not just for synthesizers.
Exactly, its the ribbon cable and can be actually fixed with a little bit of heat. Anyways, I had a EMX1 for years and i regret selling it back in the days because i loved the machine so much. I've spent years producing and playing shows with it so i know it very well. There are some major differences so Ill try to run through them: 505 is way bigger and heavier, so if you play a lot this can be a thing. The synth engine is awesome and just as @LousyFacelift mentioned all the 8 channels are polyphonic. To me that's the biggest difference because you can actually built massive sounding tracks with all that 64 note polyphony. 505's drums can sound a bit more outdated today (but with some treble exciter its much better) in comparison to EMX. FX section is way richer on EMX but the one on 505 is great. The biggest difference is probably the workflow. There is one particular thing that is a bit annoying if you get in touch with this machine for the first time in this modern age: If you edit any of the sounds that are there as presets, or even any of your premade user sounds in a pattern it needs to be saved as a different version of the preset. If you don't save that sound, next time you'll turn on the machine and load up the pattern you've been working on, the sounds will be all in their default state. This means you'll end up with a lot of sound saving (which takes a bit of time) each time you adjust any of the sounds in your tracks. Other than that its a great machine with a lot of soul. I'd say get it while it's pretty cheap.
Hey, yes. The problem is the ribbon cable that runs to the display vs. the temperature. If it's very cold or I'm not using mine for a long time I lose 2 vertical lines of dots but they usually come back after some time using this thing. But as you've said this is a very common issue with the 505s.
