Very true for all the points you have shared..!!! The more modern we want our kitchen to be , the more maintainence it requires. The older times kitchens were more robust and spacious. Points to be taken into consideration while designing the kitchen a) a little dark counter top - granite has so many options b) support under the counter top c) a bigger, wider and deeper steel sink for washing vessels d) Tiles or glass behind the cooking area to avoid oil marks on wall , easy to clean the tiles e) sufficient space on counter top to place the cooked vessels or cutting vegetables or placing vessels after washing them f) Shelves to avoid placing items on the counter top g) sufficient air space between shelves and appliances like fridge or oven or microwave .As the future is all dependent on gadgets an extra shelf for placing grill makers, coffee blenders, juice makers etc

Appreciate your honesty to share the mistakes while creating modular kitchen... reality is that Indian cooking is very different than western cooking, therefore while using the western concept of so called 'modular kitchen',(though in reality these are fixed kitchens and not modular...becuz modular means one should be able to interchange drawers or cabinets according to the changing needs for reorganization of the kitchen) rather than following the western concept blindly we should modify it to suit the Indian style cooking...we should try and do away with too many and unnecessary gadgets....simple n convenient kitchen, with minimum gadgets is the easiest way to keep our kitchen clean n hygenic...this is my personal view.

    • @manjusm1990

@@AnilKumar-ud6pb These are artificial marbles (look alike marbles) generally called as Korean Tops which are prone to cracks due to heat or extreme change in temperatures, now a days G5 version of such stones are available, however they are difficult to maintain as stains are harder to remove or clean, specially turmeric which is used most commonly in Indian diets. Best is to go for black granites which are cheap and easy to clean, in our house we are using black granite from past 16 yrs without any issues. Also we have basin also made up of granite 2 FT * 2FT and depth is also around 1.5FT, The basin/sink in kitchen made up of granite is much more cheaper and one time investment and easy to clean. In modular kitchens either they use aluminium/steel based basin which have to be replaced in few years due to scratches/stains.

Now a days, Dishwashers are getting very popular due to their amazing capacity to wash utensils, without any hassle. Even if you do not intend to buy a dishwasher now, leave space (with water and electricity connection) so that you are not required to go for major alterations afterwards, when you actually buy it. We had created dishwasher space about 8 years back, which now proved to be extremely useful. Extra electrical points for toaster, food processor, induction stove, one pot cookers like NutriPot, microwave etc should be kept to let multiple gadgets operate simultaneously.

Thanks for sharing. You can fill the crack on the white marble with a white crack filler. It will not be visible or will not be visible much. Next keep a big long and deep plastic container in front of your shutter to put the washed utensils. Also please remove and clean your gas burners properly. I too have a prestige gas stove and had the same problem with one burner. Now it is all right. Also if you have to replace the chimney, you can put a smaller one and place it exactly in the center.I have not cut my kitchen counter to fit in the gas stove but have just kept the gas stove on the kitchen counter for this problem not to arise.

Honest review .... i renovated my kitchen last month and I can tell u one thing for sure that for Indian cooking cooktop is best option... because inbuilt hobs need maintenance and daily care ...if u are 3-4 members in family then hob is good but if u are having large family cooktop is best option as I bought hafele hob worth rs 32000 which is giving me problems in one month 😐

I was thinking to install Hob initially but now after watching ur video I am going for Indian gas top only. We should not copy western things blindly. In western countries they don't do heavy cooking like Indians. So for then Hob is best option but in India gas top is the best thing.

🙏 Thank you for sharing your experiences with the new kitchen rather dream kitchen. Whenever we watch a cookery show, we observe the various types of modular kitchens and we get carried away for the fancy of it forgetting that it could be a studio.
Whenever you're planning a kitchen whether a new one or renovation, please make it a point to discuss with the builder/architect/members of your family, think of the practicality, functional, your lifestyle and take opinions of others before you execute the same. It is very clear that your dreams are shattered but your sharing your experiences has saved many like you from such disasters. The saying a stitch in time saves nine is apt here.

@@AnilKumar-ud6pb They placed the white marble slab on a wooden box like arrangement (like hollow squares) made and fixed on the lower cabinets. So there is no stable flat layer under the slab. As a result, within a year or so, a crack developed on the slab. She recommends that the slab should be pasted on a wooden slab which is then placed on the lower cabinets. Personally I think it is better to place the marble slab on a cement /concrete platform for stability and longevity. But fully modular kitchen are not made like that.

@@AnilKumar-ud6pb From what I understood, they placed a frame of wood ,which had hollow squares like a grid, on the lower cabinets and then put the slab on top of that frame.
She says they should have put a full ply on the cabinets instead of a frame. Due to the gaps or hollows in the frame, air pockets were formed, and those gaps became the weak spots causing instability and finally the long crack in the marble .
I don't know if they were misguided by the carpenter or contractor.

I knew about this hob issue and that's why I choose to keep it above the counter instead of cutting the quartz and placing it in.
For stain removal on white counter top - buy blue oxy. Removes even water marks.

Please go with south indian granite, it is much more dense. Rajasthan granite is not of good quality, shine goes away and it gets rough within 2 years. Speaking from my personal experience.
