At 13:16 one of them says ''¡ya no tirê mâh, no tirê mâh!'' which would be something like ''do not shoot anymore now'' with a very funny tone, implying that this shot would be unmatchable. And it would! he put down that cue lol. The other guy pointed out ''¡joe, con mochila y tôh, eh!'' which would be something like ''wow, even with a backpack, huh?!''.
    *People from Andalusia have fame for being funny and taking life loosely and with a sharp sense of humor, hence why it is even more funny to me. I loved it!

When i get better i will buy youre DVD to get to playing wiht english. now i try to only play with front and back spin, no english, or only when really needed, for bank shots or safe plays of the cushion. And in most situations it is enough to get nice position on the next ball without english. Not only does Efren do one of the best defenses around, accidentally gets himself stuck with his great defense, but then he got out of it by making an amazing shot with other balls interfering and complicated English to get around those balls, then slice the ball in the corner at perfect speed. I once had a cue ball jump up onto the rail/cushion interface like your traveling version to the pocket did, but dead stationary, and spinning like crazy. One of those 3-5 second wind down types. The guy on the table beside me saw it and was incredulous. If I'd been on my game, so to speak, I would have said "eh, happens all the time". Some days are better than others.
    BTW, like I sent the Venom massive ball clearance to you, I sent your crazy fluke kick/bank/timed nonsense shot to Venom to see if he wanted to take it on. He does series doing that from virtual pool submissions, but I told him this one was WAYYY next level. I think you should try to replicate it, too. How much of a masochist are you? I expect even HE is not that much of one, though it's definitely a shot for his wheelhouse. Cheers, fun vid.
    And the point vs jump point shots. True, but Efren's was intentional...BIG big difference.
    When you play pro carom pool it helps a LOT on shots like Efren's kick. I imagine that's still well below 50%, even for him, but I'm convinced that a very good three cushion player that plays the other games at a professional level also (and balkline, etc) has a BIG leg up over those that don't.
    Also, I'm not convinced that leaving the ground on a break is totally theatrics. I think I watched a guy on YT that was a specialist on sports type whipping movements (incorporating all the muscles to produce the fastest or longest outcomes) doing some incredibly fast lookjng breaking (didn't have my Predator app then or I would have timed it) who was sending balls straight up out of the rack and off the table everywhere (faster ain't remotely necessarily better) and many balls off many many cushions, and IIRC he was leaving the ground on the breaks. He did point out that you would never want to break this fast, but claimed knowing how to do that will allow you to break more slowly (but still very fast) with more accuracy. I will have to find it and get back to you sometime with the vid. to see if I am remembering all of that correctly. Fair chance I might not be, though, it was a long time ago.
    Yeah, the video is total BS, guessing. Kind of like those videos where they make the entire rack on the break, and when you look at them slowed way down (as I think you did) you find all kinds of physics defying things going on, like balls accelerating without being hit, etc. Ya gotta give them credit for a decent attempt at fakery though, I guess.
    Yeah, the Oi interview was hilarious, but he unfortunately didn't play that well in the games I saw him in in that tournament. Unlike him. Boyes, on the other hand, who was there with him conducting one side of that interview, stated that he hoped he wouldn't embarrass himself coming out of not touring for a good while, and very much didn't. He played really well.
    The funniest part of that other cue smash was watching him stoop to pick up all the pieces for many seconds with obvious egg on his face. Not a well thought through action. That was a joke, JIC.

    • @DrDaveBilliards
      @DrDaveBilliards  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I doubt even Florian would want to waste time trying to reproduce my two fluke shots. I certainly wouldn't want to try to recreate them. I might get them in 50 tries, but I might not get them in 1000 tries. Ain't nobody got time for that. :)

    • @MrJdsenior
      @MrJdsenior 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@DrDaveBilliards Likely, but he 'wastes' some pretty incredible time recreating some pretty freaky virtual shots, and usually with reasonable to amazing success, but yeah, beyond tedious.
      With the obvious sometimes extreme deficiencies in the physics of those virtual games, like rail first cue balls following into pockets that would NEVER happen in reality, and top spin radically modifying shot path, where side spin throw changes it NONE. It is beyond obvious that many of the software engineers that code those programs have NEVER picked up a cue, at least not nearly enough, beforehand. Nothing like closing the one loop that actually matters there. It always amazes me that it never occurs to them to have a real highly capable pool players, pros even, give them some feedback during their attempts. Some of it is downright infuriating, some quite good.
      Oh, and Mike with the cue stick. Kind of a loss of composure there, but hey, he apparently MADE that cue, so I guess he meant it! :-/ :-) Been there many many times, just controlled myself better than he did. I have come close on a couple of occasions though. And he knew exactly who's 'fault', or error, it was. Judging those sometimes is beyond impossible, as you well know. If he can't do it, mere mortals don't stand a prayer.
      The only thing that struck me rewatching this is that Earl came in second. :-/ But I agree. I'm happy to see Earl lately tamping down all the nonsense and it seems to be really impacting his game, I am seeing him play much more consistently since doing that. I guess someone finally got through. Good to see, fun to watch. I am happy for him. Apparently a great guy off the table, all along, if you believe the dozens of people I've heard say it, and I do. He is FAR too good to make that his standard mode. I doubt Strickland did those things on purpose. He doesn't seem the type to cheat, though I have no personal experience to say that, just a somewhat educated guess, watching him over the years.
      Shaw's pick of the rack was damning, zero doubt. Kind of like F1, the name of the game often seems to be 'pushing' rules to the limit, until you get exposed. You can see him doing that little apex ball scratch almost always after the rack was set. I often wondered why HIS apex ball was so reticent to behave. I should have figured it out. My bad. Corey used to be a master of pattern racking and soft breaking to extreme advantage before the rules targeted that in a big way. Not illegal then, though. Kinda different.
      On the other hand, you see good referees often require re racking from far more players than Shane, so he's not remotely the only one doing it. Not an excuse, just a fact.

    Dave, did you ever get round to doing an analysis of Efren´s cue action?

    • @DrDaveBilliards
      @DrDaveBilliards  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No. It honestly isn't a high priority for me. I honestly don't think his stroke is special (other than the how accurate and consistent he is). He moves his arm a lot during the warm-ups (probably just to make sure he is loose), but his final stroke into the ball is a perfect pendulum-stroke-like delivery, hitting the CB at the exact spot he wants with the speed he wants, just as with pretty much all top players.

    • @salsabil44
      @salsabil44 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@DrDaveBilliards Thx for the quick reply. The reason I ask is because I think I watched another one of your videos on cueing technique and I always thought Efren´s cue action would be worth analysing, and is so interesting precisely because there seems to be so much movement there. As someone who grew up playing snooker we learned to keep unnecessary movement to a minimum, and especially the kind of lateral movement we see from Efren just before he strikes. It always amazes me that the greatest player of all time should have one of the most unusual and unorthodox actions. Having said all that I don´t think it is one younger players should try to copy...
