    Wow, as someone who recently performed this for my senior solo and ensemble event I'm amazed to see this performed at full speed. Mine only hovered around the high 160's and even that was difficult to maintain with this level of dynamic contrast (not that there's anything wrong with taking it slower than that blistering 208, but it's still great to see). Fantastic work!

      Thanks a lot! :-) But this was a performance in 1990 - today I play with more differences and more slowly too. ;-)

      Dear Rebecca, at the beginning, try your exercises very, very slowly and with the metronome. Play the triplets with LRR (left/right/right - Hand) first. Then you will learn the piece step by step. The fun and success comes by itself. Enjoy it!

      Thank you AirborneX, it was a long time ago and I was very young. ;-)Today I play this piece more slowly and musical with much more out of time. Thats more important that speed. All Best.

      Roland Härdtner What mallets did you use for this , also do you have any advice for playing this at tempo?

    • @rolandhaerdtner
      @rolandhaerdtner  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Can't remember. It was more than 28 years ago! But today I think, you should use not to hard mallets and all with same type. For this piece I prefer Rattan-sticks for the double strokes on right hand. It's not necessary to have trouble with this. Take your time and beginn your exercises always very slowly, maybe at first without marimba. Just on practise-pad for to get the feeling from LRRLRR with the heavier Mallets-heads. It's odd, because we know the "rebound-feeling" from drumsticks. But after this it will be much easier to play this piece. And today I think, maybe it would be better to play this not to fast. Enjoy it!

    On the valse part did you play an acelerando?

    • @rolandhaerdtner
      @rolandhaerdtner  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, accelerando and ritardando. Always flexible, not everytime the same tempo. That makes it musical.

    Any advice for speed 208?

    • @rolandhaerdtner
      @rolandhaerdtner  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      At first slowly and step by step with more speed left-right-right with sticks, later mallets on drum pad. Than it will coming to be fast and relaxed. ;-)
