Looking forward to your hit and miss on your auction predictions and the big books coming up soon! Those are my favorite videos you do.
Thanks Steven! I'll try to do one at the end of this month too. Whiffed on the Action 1 (as you saw) but made some pretty good guesses otherwise :-)
I was underbidder on sooo many auctions Thursday! But my top bid on this Action came 160k short so I wasn’t even close!
Hi Steven, Your bid was right about what I thought the book would sell for. Sorry, you missed out on it.
I remember back in 1989 when the Batman movie came out and Batman was all the rage-Todd Mcfarlane went after Action 1 because as he put it: Superman is still king-fast forward to now and it’s hard to argue with him
Hi Mazzter. Yeah, Action 1 just has too much going for it. It's the Adam and Eve of Superheroes if you will.
Wow. Low grade is better than no grade. That does not apply to these key books in relation to their value. Usually I am a law grade golden age collector because of the price point. Great upload. Thanks for sharing.
Appreciate the comment, Jerry. Yeah, the low condition books have been on a tear recently.
I bought a bunch of comics at the estate sale years ago for $1 each, and ended up getting the showcase #4 flash in the same condition you’re describing the action comics, missing back page and all, graded a 0.5. Also got detective comics number 359 end it graded a 7.5 and I also had one more I can’t remember, I ended up getting $10,000 for all three! I paid three dollars! My best pick up ever
Hi Corey. Thanks for commenting. That's quite a pickup. Showcase #4 is incredibly tough to find for a silver-age key.
The price certainly surprised me. I know it's an Action #1, but it would be a tough pill to swallow--paying that price.
I have one, but I don’t think is the real deal, the person on the lower left has a green tie instead of red, it is still in packaging that appears to be original, plus it has a certificate of authenticity on the back signed by Dan Didio and Jim Lee.
Howdy Keston ! I always love your analyseeees. You may have whiffed on this one, but I think your batting average is still very high my friend. C ya
Thanks SVP. The golden age has proven to be an ace pitcher :-)
Even though I love Action 1, I'd rather have a classic Ferrari for summer weekends at that price.
Hi Waz. I hear ya. I'd likely stick with a comic book but I might get a high mid-grade Marvel 1 for that price.
Absolutely. : ) Just got an Amazing Mystery Funnies v2 #7 with the creative team behind Marvel 1 and it's become my favorite book in the collection. Can read it cover to cover (scans lol) and never get tired of it.
Now your talking. Sweet book. I love that art. v2,#10 is my favorite of the bunch. Had a copy but sold it. Need to get my hands on one again!
Oh man good luck - I assume you know about the one closing tonight. That cover is fine art.
Wow
Awesome as always, Appreciate the knowledge!!! Would like to mail you some Baklava!!! If you don't know what it is, I make the Best in the WORLD.
That's what it sold for, that doesn't mean the next guy gets to pay that, the next 0.5 will be more either in asking or auction results. So many in this hobby think cause XYZ sold for XYZ then that's what they should be paying, it's true to a point but not on rarer books
Hi Kevn. I agree about pricing golden age books. It's tough. In this case, it tells me one buyer was willing to pay almost 400k and then one obviously was willing to pay a little more. But hey...it's the only data point we have in the last 10 years for a 0.5.
You can’t dispute the massive importance to this book. Yes it’s a .5 but still have the most important aspect to the book. The history and complete story inside being the first superhero ever. Some say I’d rather have this or that but in reality this and that will never hold a candle to the first superhero book ever even in .5 condition. Cover is still shown Superman in all his glory. I would take this book anyday, after all how many can say I own Supermans first appearance
Kryptonite! Superman is not my favorite superhero...BUT I completely agree with your take. In terms of important books, there is Action 1...and everything else.
That is quite a premium for a .5. I like this little bite size update and always enjoy your videos.
Thank you, HazelDan!
