I enjoy both skyrim and dark souls.
I enjoy dark souls more because the gameplay actually exists and is challenging.
Skyrim is pretty and entertaining, but jesus is the combat dull.

DAEDRADONKEY Adding more HP to enemies does not make a game more difficult. Well, on some stage it does, but it's completely artificial. Fun difficult combat is fast-paced, dynamic and strategic. Boring difficult combat is hacking an enemy for 30 minutes and pausing every two seconds to heal.

@@tianm740 I honestly never played souls that much at all but dragons Dogma combat is very well done with rather complex mechanics and amazing boss fights. I will warn you though the leveling is a bit weird to understand and there's many other little things that are important to know such as when creating your character because height and weight play a huge role in your play style as well. It's definitely a survival open world rpg with fairly smart AI combat. No joke one of the best rpgs I've ever played in a very long time. The story honestly is a bit mediocre but the overall game is incredible. You can also create your own pawn as a companion and share your pawns with other players online. I have like 5 different pawns you could hire for free if you ever felt interested in the future just hmu.

I referred mostly to storyline. The effort put in is inarguable, and amateur special effects are acceptable, considering, but there's never an excuse for lack of story, and 7 solid minutes of really poor, disorienting screen cuts. I had no idea what went on by the end, besides mayhaps random LARPing cut up into seamed chunks.
You missed the point of Darksouls.
1) Dovahkiin cannot respawn at the Bonfire. He is not a bearer of the Darksign and therefore his death would be permanent. Only bearers of the Darksign respawn and go Hollow.
2) When the Darksign activates, it takes all humanity and souls, turning the ebarer into a undead.
3) Monsters are 1:1 your size? What kind of Darksouls is this? The tutorial?

as i mentioned, only a moron would jump into blades while getting attacked, unfix pc version? i remember playing it on launch ps3 people invading on every turn. pvp sure thats difficult depending on the player, but sens fortress makes it easier to distance you and said enemy phantom to heal..

When I started getting into Dark Souls, I got so lost. Nothing indicated where I needed to go except for a few hints. All the areas can be conqured in different orders, and there are so many hidden weapons that can make things easier for you. And honestly, I feel scared when going into darker areas because I don't know what's ahead. Yeah, I admit it, I am scared of a game that isn't meant to be scary.
***** It is mean to be scary, just not in the jump scare or "look I'm spooo-ooky" way. It's haunting, atmospheric, and oppressive, and from a gameplay standpoint every fight carries the threat of death, and the incredible tension that goes along with it.
***** The game is depressing as fuck. No humor allowed. The penalty of death in the second game makes it so much worse, and yet better.

Atlas i mean hes right. if you are looking only for combat systems, games like witcher and dark souls will always beat skyrim... simply because skyrim is less focused on combat. they are both great games... and i like them equally... but each has its strengths. there are sooooo many more ways to play skyrim than there are ds games. they fall into the same genre, so they can be compared pretty easily. that said... everyone should just get both lol lets be real

To be fair, basing the two characters on weapons, armour, magic and speed of movement...Dragonborn would rip the actual shit out a Dark Souls build...you couldn't really get near him....

Not really, at best Dovah gets 500-600 hp. That's starting level undead level of HP. His weapon (Legendary Daedric sword) is cool because it deals 300 at max which is amazing for it's speed. His armor would be amazing because it can reach upto 600-700 defense in every category whist even Havel is like 100 something. If Dovah were to be counted as an undead, he would approx. be a 80 lvl character with no points in vigor.

Also, the fighting it terms of difficulty? About the same.
Fighting in terms of being fluid, dynamic, and realistic? Dark Souls by a massive margin.

+Andrew Espinoza Yeah I would say Skyrim has better defined lore but only because there were 4 other full games before it. I do think that Dark Souls does a better job of presenting it though. While it does have some really obscure info (item descriptions, really?) I still prefer it to all the books in skyrim. If you haven't played the previous 4 elder scrolls games there is basically no point. Dark souls leaves a lot of its lore up to speculation, only hinting at what actually happened.

Ever heard of legendary? Or how bout mods? There is literally an option to download them on the home page. And TES isn't about being a huge challenge, it's an open world RPG with a whole lot of lore. I don't know much about dark souls, but I can garente it has more lore. Not to mention Skyrim was released back in 2011, and the game still isn't dead and has a very active fan base
Yeah totally agree, I never play without the brutal realism mods and survival ones to get a real rich experience. Souls just made me lose interest but due to not having enough time to dedicate to playing it, plus the lore is kinda shitty. Good fun to play but not if you have other things going on in your life haha!

No. If this was truly accurate the bonfire would have died out at 3:18 and then he would have heard the *aaaaah AH!* "Doucebag McCunt has invaded!". Dovahkiin, thinking its a honorable duel gets killed in one hit by a red phantom griefer using Great Combustion while wearing all Havel's armor with a fully upgraded pyro hand and lightning katana.
Kaminoyouni Andrew Nope because in Skyrim your life can only get so high and you can only do so little damage naturally. Compared to Dark Souls everyday monsters can deal like 500 damage in one hit. Invaders can naturally backstab for thousands and can cast spells that can do over 2000 damage if you are hit point blank. Basically Dovahkiin's entire life bar every hit. Whenever Dovahkiin does a dragon shout invaders would simply roll through it like they do everything else and then backstab him in one hit.
Dovahkiin wouldn't stand a chance in Lordran or Boletaria unless he cheated. Using that restoration glitch to make broken enchanted equipment at an Arcane Enchanter.
Assuming that the guy with the club guy is even invader and not just a random monster, and invader wouldn't just stand there (probably just spawn camp at the bonfire), plus you can't expect a post game DB to be a completely weak noob, as your speculation is a purely biased approach as a DS fanboy.
Not to mention DB would have a vairty of Shouts post game depending on how much exploring he did, also bring with him a varity of spells and weapons he had to master, much like any invader in DS would have to.

i would say that dark souls has better gameplay, atmosphere, and if you actually spend time finding it a more realistic and natural plot compared to the rather straightforward plots of oblivion and skyrim. I would also say that dark souls characters are less barebones.
better gameplay? well, if we are going to compare two games "so similar" as these two, I'd say that DS gameplay sucks when it comes to sitting on chairs, building, tents, interacting with people, eating, drinking, swimming, riding dragons, building houses... well, I think you get the idea. Every one of them has a deep story like they would if they were actually in such a world siegland, solair,the monk dude,big hat Logan, the sisters of chaos. Every character in skyrim was boring as hell both. All the main quest characters were 2d cutout. the guild quests were a little better but still it felt so fake because the character essentially didn't exist except when you were there

To be fair, if the dovakhiin would have the abilities of chosen undead (I.e. acquiring and consuming souls), he'd conceivably wreck the whole of Lordran. Even without that it wouldn't be that difficult, seeing how in Dark Souls you pretty much start from the very bottom of the barrel and still manage to kill errything, Gwyn included.

most of the people who disliked have probably never played darksouls, the first time I saw this video I had never played any of the souls games, but after playing darksouls 3 and watching some videos here and there the video has become significantly better then before I had played the game. darksouls has a lot of random little things that are unique to it and people who dont know anything about those things would just be like "the hell is this shit?"

What did you just say? What? How is that relative at all? How does it help me?
The audio mixing is pretty bad, and the video editing has tons of unnecessary reaction shots. Plus, half the video is just walking around slouching. There's a ton of missing sound effects (especially footsteps) so it's hard to feel invested. There isn't much dialog, but most of it is just exposition. I found myself skipping through the video because the pacing felt so slow.

Dark Souls Characters would most likely withstand any shout xD. Also if the dragonborn started off like he like Skyrim I doubt he woulnt pass the first enemy.
People just don't understand you don't start Skyrim with all your shouts and other stuff you have to earn it but if you can even pass one dark souls enemy it would be impossible also he not of the dark sign so if you would have to go through the whole game with out dying not even once.. And shouts wtf is a recharge shout going to do to enemy who can take about 50 and the bosses it would take three Skyrim dragons to even come close to the awsome of a dark souls boss...
The Undeads are Immortal,your point?from demon souls to dark souls you can't even be level 1 that's why you don't start as a level 1 and not get balled up you are level one on Skyrim dark souls lesser enemys will one hit kill you. And the shouts are recharable so why you wait the enemys will kill you.but as I say Skyrim is for only playing to have fun and dark souls is for hardcore experiences they should never get compared to each other they are two completely. In The Lore the Thu'um is High Reality Warping so Dragonborn can Destroy Chosen Undead if he wants
Skyrim places you in the shoes of a hero, writing their own tale as the world revolves around them. Dark Souls places you in the shoes of a filthy carcass who plays a rather meaningless role in a much grander scheme. Then there's Bloodborne, which places you in the shoes of some chump who gets contracted to kill things until someone says "Please stop killing things" or you become a monster.
Notice the very different ways they treat the player? Skyrim treats the player like a king. The game will bend over backwards to let you do what you want (except kill children, but there are mods for that). From Software titles treat you like the filthy casual you are until you learn to play the game. Then you get to treat others like filthy casuals until they learn to play the game. I like both styles. I just wish I could play as a filthy casual in a game as open as an Elder Scrolls title. Souls/Borne series is good, but very linear and restrictive.
+King Sarathos Linearity isn't necessarily a bad thing. With the deep, dark rich lore of dark souls, having it be in an open world would shatter everything we love about the game. Neither DkS or DkS2 are really restrictive either. Every game has to have a check-point when it's story driven. DkS has a few; Ring the two bells, gather the lord vessel. If the game was linear or truly restrictive, then I wouldn't be able to go kill Pinwheel as my first boss, Quelaag as my second, Ceaseless as my third, and fuckin' Taurus Demon as my fourth (Excluding the Asylum Demon).
The design choice for the Souls series isn't really restrictive, nor linear. It's Story-driven, which Skyrim isn't.

Just want to place my opinon here. Also, excuse my english. So...
Both TES and Dark Souls are my most favorite games.
For me, TES has the fact you can do so many things.. You have absolute freedom. Also the soundtrack. And the lore. Oh yeah, TES lore. Something I really love. And the atmosphere in Morrowind!
But Dark Souls... Dark Souls has, as you said, better combat system. Also, the difficulty is much better. Don't take me wrong, I'm not one of the guys saying that it's good it's that hard. I mean, TES has something I call "slider difficulty". You just move the slider and the enemies do more damage, have more health and you are weaker. That's just bad. Dark Souls has different difficulty. For example, you can run through Undead Burg without dying once but still killing everything there. But do several mistakes and you're dead. I don't know how to properly explain... It's just all about you, and your ability of learning things. If you are patient and you watch your surroundings, and you're learnign the moves of your enemies you'll win. And if I win in TES I don't feel anything. But if I beat something difficult in Dark Souls I'm rewarded with that great feeling!
Dark Souls also has better atmosphere. Yep, better than Morrowind, I'd say, and that Morrowind was always my top one game. But it's hard to explain atmosphere and you can't watch videos about the videogame's atmosphere, you have to play the game. However, it's probably I just love this kind of atmosphere... Soundtrack of Dark Souls can't match OST from TES. But only if you're listening to it on TH-cam. In the game actually... Yeah, TES still wins, but Dark Souls OST is very well placed in the game. And yeah, I mean the Gordon Freeman's Voice Actor too. Now... TES has better graphics, I guess. But for me, graphics were always about the atmosphere and the simply design of the things. Not number of polygons, or whatever. And if you were in upper Blighttown, Tomb of the Giants or in Anor Londo, you know what I'm talking about.
Finally, I'll talk about the story, characters and lore. Oh, I know what many people are going to say now: "Wait, Dark Souls has a story? And a lore? And you call these thing a characters?" Umm... yeah, it has. But you must "look" for it. And it has a great story, I think. Doesn't match Zaklína- I meant Witcher's story. Or DE:HR. But it's still a good story, and better than the ones I played in TES. But no spoilers. And the characters. I love them more that those in Dark Souls. Hell, even more that those from Mass Effect. Solaire, Lautrec, Crestfallen Warrior, Fair Lady, The Four Knights of Gwyn... Hell, even the Undead Merchant and Giant Blacksmith are awesome. While many games have "2D" characters and others have "3D" characters, then Dark Souls must have 4D characters. And I'm not talking about the fact that the fourth dimension is in Dark Souls. Those characters... Such deep.
Ok, the lore! Now... That's something man! Yeah, it's 99% speculations. But still... So amazing! I still love the TES lore, but this is some rich and deep lore.
And the online experience is amazaing. Best PvP I ever played, and the JOLLY CO-OPERATION!

I was just saying Skyrim combat is boring and only based on levels, and Dark Souls is a bit harder, but still not that hard, thus Dark Souls characters win by being able to do more. DAEDRADONKEY No i played on legendary as soon as it was released lol. The lore in tes is much bigger indeed, but dark souls' combat system is renowned for how well it works.
Skyrim... is an unbalanced mess with unsophisticated combat mechanics.
It's cool if you like that combat system though.
And yeah it's harder than ds when you run into a sabre cat that 2 hits you when you need to put 100 hits on him. In these situations, the game forces you to turn down the difficulty or use cheap tricks/pause the game to take a potion after every hit, says enough about the combat system and balancing :P
A good example was that i was locked in the cabin with the dark brotherhood member, it was impossible and completelly unfair at this point. That would never happen in Dark Souls.
Mechanics such as destruction/impact, shield bashing, standing on rocks+ranged attacks, calm+assassination, fear+backstabbing and COUNTLESS more make it inferior to dark souls from a pure gameplay perspective.
I think playing skyrim on a lower difficulty would make a good roleplaying experience for those who like that though.
That's the thing about Dark Souls, it's not that hard, it's just that it offers a GOOD, fair and balanced challange because that was the number one priority of the developers, in skyrim their priority was to make an immersive world where you can shape your own story, they definitely succeeded at this.

This is more like if a lvl 1-10 Skyrim protag went against Dark Souls (he'd lose 99% of the time). lvl 50-100 with all the items, gear, and magic would help a lot. Even now my current playthrough has 42 Potions of Ultimate Healing that fully restores his health, yet I'm only lvl 47.

I actually suggest you start at the beginning and work your way towards playing Skyrim so you can understand the complexity of game-play, landscapes, the lore, history etc. of the world they've created.
In 1994 Bethesda created The elder Scrolls: Arena then they created Daggerfall and two failed games called Battlespire and Redguard (which both kinda sucked). Then they brought us Morrowind. Morrowind is a great game and then Oblivion arrived and it was well worth the wait after Morrowind. Oblivion ties everything together.
Skyrim is a culmination of all of these games in one package. It is nothing like Oblivion. It is it's own beast that resides within the realm of The Elder Scrolls.

***** Morrowind did encourage more exploration in the main quest than Skyrim did. Just don't believe anyone when they say Oblivion is the best TES game. Skyrim really is the best. The atmosphere, art design, world, side quests, enemies, combat, dungeons, and basic gameplay mechanics are the best of the Elder Scrolls series.
I feel that people don't recognize Skyrim's full potential. It's beautiful. Most people just try to become a tank, but they also worked hard on magic, stealth and thievery. There's no beating the game.

This comment section is so cringey. I love Skyrim and Dark Souls equally.They're both amazing games. Skyrim has a beautiful world, many interesting characters and places. It's also a simpler game, easier to get into, more accessible for everyone. Dark Souls on the other hand has more interesting game play, has less characters but with greater story behind them. It's also a very difficult game to get into, many people get turned away by the difficulty.
Seeing these elitist assholes on both sides makes me sad to see that they're part of two communities I love, when they should clearly go back to CoD and git gud before playing these masterpieces.

I believe Dark Souls is the better game, but... Skyrim took over two years of my life. I think that counts for something.
Skyrim was such a good game to sit back, relax, and roleplay to. The first couple times through, learning tidbits of lore and discovering new quests was awesome. Afterwards, blasting through what I used to think were challenges and creating super-OP characters was awesome.
Even after a year or two break from the game, going back and getting a rush of nostalgia was- you guessed it- awesome.
While I feel that Dark Souls is a better game, Skyrim will always hold a place in my mind.
