Dr Chandrashekhar Kambar, is a highly admired poet, Novelist, folklorist, film director, and a renowned writer in Kannada language. He was the recipient of Jnanpith Award in 2010 which is India’s highest literary award.
Born in Ghodageri village of Belgaum District, he spent most of his childhood days in the midst of a serene rural setting. He was fascinated by the culture, arts, and folklore from a very early age, which lead him naturally to begin his love for writing.
Contemporary writers admiringly describe him as a natural poet. He has been very successful in using the North Karnataka Dialect in his works His contribution to Kannada literature is immense with his work consisting of more than 25 plays, 5 novels, 16 research works, 11 anthologies of poems, and several scholarly write-ups on literature.
Some of the prominent Poetry include Mugulu, Helatena Kela, Takararinavaru, Saavirada Neralu, Ellide Shivapura, and many more. Some of his plays include Sangya Balya, Kaadu Kudure, Harakeya Kuri, Siri Sampige, and several others. His famous Novels are Karimaayi , Anna Tangi, G.K. Maastarara Pranaya Prasanga, Singarevva Mattu Aramane, Shikhara Soorya and Shivana Dangura.
Sri Chandrashekhar Kambara has won several awards for his rich & illustrious literary contributions. Prominent ones include Padma Bhushan (2021), Sangeet Natak Akademi Fellowship (2011), Jnanpith Award (2010), Padma Shri (2001), Sahitya Akademi Award (1991), Sangeet Natak Akademi Award (1983).
In this video, we attempt to educate the audience about this literary giant and also present his very famous poem 'Moodala Mane - Rembe Kombiya myaala gooda kattidaava'. Moodala Mane is taken from his collection of Poems in Ellide Shivapura. The Song has been adapted as the title song in the very famous Kannada Serial, Moodala Mane.
