  • This video is for those considering getting an SRRV Expanded Courtesy Visa for retiring in the Philippines or living abroad and visiting the Philippines regularly.
I mentioned getting my 1)monthly proof of income, 2)police report, and 3)monthly income statement while in the states apostilled. You will also need to wire a deposit of $1500+ to an approved PRA bank (your agent can help you with this). There are other forms that your agent will request to complete before arriving in the Philippines. You can have your medical lab (chest xray, urine and blood tests) performed in the Philippines for a small fee. Also, an application fee of $1400 can be initiated at a bank in the Philippines (your agent can help you with this). Once the completed package was submitted, the entire process took me one month before I received my SRRV. During the processing, my agent extended my tourist visa form 30 to 60 days and I had to extend my return flight to California another month, two months duration in the Philippines.
I suggest renting a cheap hotel or hostel within close proximity to the PRA in Makati. Upon arrival at the Manila airport, I used a metered taxi service to get me to my hotel. If possible, sign up for the GRAB app taxi service in the Philippines. Their rates are much cheaper and you'll know in advance how much you'll be paying for your destination.
I purchased a Globe sim at the airport ($20-$50) and it was compatible with my iPhone X. I also cashed out about $50usd into Philippine peso currency.
Arriving at my hotel, they accepted a Visa credit card as payment. Remember, I don't speak a word of Tagalog, but the key word in the Philippines is to have PATIENCE. Luckily most of the people in the country speak good English, a big help. As anywhere else, keep your valuables in a safe place and keep your wallet or purse in front of you ( I put my wallet in my front pocket as opposed to my back pocket). Be polite, don't scream or shout and you should have the greatest experience of all time, regardless of your race, creed, religion, gender or age.
At the time of accepting my SRRV, there was one other Filipina lady from Las Vegas. Since she spoke both Tagalog and English, I asked her why she did not apply for dual citizenship. For whatever reason, she said the SRRV Expanded Courtesy Visa was her best option.
If anything posted helps just one person, then I'll be a satisfied, soon to be expat.
Questions? I'm sure I missed a lot, so let me know if I can help. I am not an expert, just someone who took the plunge and applied for my SRRV with the help of an agent.
Best option is to find a good authorized agent (let me know if you're interested in the agent I used). Research TH-cam videos on the SRRV and google Philippine Retirement Authority (PRA) for more infomation.
Disclaimer: This is my overall, personal experience applying for my SRRV. Others will differ regarding their own personal requirements/preferences.

It seems a little complicated to obtain an SRRV visa but as you said, an agent is free and can steer you in the right direction.

Hi! I’m planning to do what you have recently done: obtain SRRV Expanded Courtesy status based on US Army service. I am a five year veteran 1974-79 with a honorable discharge and DD-214. Questions: a.) Do I need to be a retired military veteran or just a veteran honorably discharged with DD-214 proof?
b.) Can you recommend your SRRV “agent ,” with name and contact info?
I am in Arizona and, like you, would like to accomplish as much as possible in the US. I travel around the Philippines for a month approximately 20 years ago and am somewhat familiar. Thank you!

Hi there. You only need to be an honorably discharged veteran with a DD214. You don't have to be retired or an officer. My agent was James Biron. I will get his contact information for you or you can google his name under SRRV James Biron. He gets paid by the Philippines Retirement Authority so his service is free. Thanks and keep me updated!

I heard the age used to be 35. I see the age on the website says you must be 50 now. I just turned 39. I wish I would have come over here when it was still 35.

Yes, unfortunately they did away with that particular SRRV (SRRV SMILE Visa program) for younger applicants.

Could you walk us through the process of getting your DD214 Apostilled?

Here in California I had my DD214 notarized first. Then I followed the instructions on the Secretary of State CA website, filled out a form and submitted both the form and notarized DD214 to their address in Sacramento. Not sure how other states work, but it should be similar to this. Let me know if you have any further questions.
