I once took a two mile ride in an ambulance. Cost $4,000. Insurance reduced it to $100 which sounds wonderful, but it also explains why my policy premium is so high.
I am a cop, and I got injured on duty one night and they took me by ambulance a few miles. The ambulance company accidentally sent me the bill in the mail and it was $2,500. I gave it to my department and told them to figure it out, I didn't have to pay for it but damn that's a scam. After that incident, every time someone wanted to be transported while I was working, I quietly informed them that unless it's an emergency, I suggest just driving yourself or have a friend/family member drive to you to the hospital instead.
I remember watching that on the news back when they started that. They said that they can charge you up to $15K for that. Nixon, according to PBS, started the scam industry called "Insurance". When Hussein saw that he couldn't con everyone into falling for his "Unaffordable Care", he pushed a penalty. That penalty graduated immensely per year (1st year was $59, 2nd year was $400, 3rd year was $700 & so on...) But, when Trump ended that for him, he'd made $24M that he stashed in an off-shore account. Which is against the law for "Americans", but not foreigners like him. But, mark my words, that flea-bagged "dog" will have his day for the POS gas done to our country!

Unregulated, as in *unhindered* , capital construction and use. Right now, you are fighting the result of "well intended" *regulation* with *new* regulation. Don't break up companies. My husband had an MRI at our local hospital to avoid a 3 hour drive to the nearest VA facility. We were billed $13,000. I called to explain it was a VA ordered test and they should pay. The billing gal was great and said she would handle it. We got notification later that the VA paid the bill. They paid $800. Now, why would the hospital try to gouge a private citizen for $13,000 and accept $800 from the United States federal government, who can (but absolutely shouldn’t) literally print money to pay the bill? This all needs to change.

I see a lot of the commercial side of plans, and the issue we are having is a lot of plans aren't allowing manufacturer coupon assistance to apply towards accumulators, so essentially the pt will get free meds up until the card runs out of funds, then they are responsible for full cost out of pocket, until accumulators are met. Which, they should have already been. Also there are several groups we will call them that attach themselves to some plans and act as the insurer, no matter the plans formulary and if they do actually cover it. Some will say that all meds are excluded... it's been getting worse and worse anymore.
My husband is disabled and on Medicare/Medicaid. Under Trump administration we never paid a penny out of pocket for medical necessities. I accidently went to an ER that was cleverly disguised as a walk in clinic, they charged me 17 THOUSAND dollars for that visit. Thank god I have good insurance. The medical industry is the devil.
It isn't the industry itself, it's the industrial complex that controls it. Same way the military itself isn't bad, but the military industrial complex that makes up lies to justify war is horribly evil. This is why we need Trump in office to establish a Government Efficiency Committee with musk.
You should see some of my hospital bills. What made it interesting is I knew they had charged me for items I did not use or need. 40 years of nursing and now a patient. It’s all corrupt. I need to be on an advisory board …
Don't. Our system is vastly superior in every metric to yours. My wife works for the planet's largest GPO and your government are one of their clients. It's a strongly capitalist and conservative company, btw, whom your state appeals to and pays to price shop for them and manage those contracts. You have no idea just how bad your government f*cks you on pricing compared to what they pay while also making your entire system so slow and inefficient that it's like our USPS vs our UPS company. It's so laughable it's like a kindergartner comparing his finger painting to a Monet. And there isn't a single soul in this country who has ever been turned away due to lack of ability to pay. You can walk into an ER completely bankrupt with your broken arm here and it will still be mended. The cost instead gets passed on to the paying customers and tax payers in the form of price inflation and medicare/medicaid programs. See, that's part of why our HC is so expensive, not merely due to corruption but because the people who can pay are paying for those who can't as well. So when I paid $600 for a flu diagnosis, I essentially paid for a dozen other people who couldn't. So, in a way, just like your clown island, we also punish the successful people and use their gains to reward failure.
No healthcare system is perfect. Canadian healthcare is "free" but the quality of treatment is terrible and takes forever. Also prescription medication is not covered and is way more expensive than US.
I'm not here to praise American healthcare, but my sister lives in London. It took six months for her to finally get approved for a surgery she could have gotten here quickly. The NHS is awful.
@@bethanynorman1829 "She could have gotten here" You do know people can pay for a private insurance in the UK as well, right? You don't HAVE to use the NHS. I got into a car accident in October last year. Can't even remember how long I was unconscious for because the ambulance workers woke me up. I refused care because the stress of the hospital bill outweighed my health concerns which is so screwed up.
I was also in a similar situation 2 years ago. I also declined medical care due to concerns over cost. I had glass embedded in my skin that I picked out at home. Of course, because I didn't have a doctor's note I had to go to work just a few hours later after a major car accident. The driver at fault did not have insurance coverage, so I think I made the right financial decision. But the fact that denying care is the better option when you were in a no fault accident is gross. The system is horrible.
Same thing happened to me. Unfortunately i was unconscious for long enough to where they took advantage of me then when i woke up they kicked me out the hospital then sent me a bill for 50k. I’m absolutely livid

It took effect Jan 2021, and now you DO get the prices. Trump removed federal funding to help pay for deductibles, which caused Insurance companies to skyrocket premiums for everyone to make up the difference.

@@High_Lord_Of_TerraI think you have a point. My take is that more “regular” folks should be able and encouraged to ask questions and have conversations like these. Not pay to play like it’s always been, but regular folks that work and know what the real issues are. Even if they lie, it could theoretically give some perspective. How could one expect a regular American to give a care about global socio-politics when their grocery bill increasing by $100 tanks their whole financial health?
He basically gave him an open vein to shoot disinformation up into. Sad to see it, even Joe Rogan is smart enough not to give our uniparty left and right wing govt access to that type of propaganda so personal to the viewers.
I used to work in the billing department of the hospital. Here is why they don’t provide their prices. Hospitals and medical facilities contract with insurance carriers. They work out the fee for every service provided by said facility so the insurance carrier goes back to the covered individual with what percentage they will cover of that fee. Every insurance company has a different contract with the medical service provider. Literally, the prover charges DIFFERENT rates for the same service dependent upon the insurance the patient presents. The highest cost for the services is charged to the patient who doesn’t have insurance
Yes, but why are you blaming the hospital? The system is designed so different people and different plans pay different amounts. That is part of Obamacare. The hospital is not allowed to set their own price and charge everyone that same price. The rates different insurances pay and what they cover is regulated, starting with medicare and medicaid which vary even from state to state.
So the out of pocket discount for uninsured is just a scam/lie? I had to pay a fine for not having healthcare and it cost me $130 each time to see my primary doc. Of course that was after oblablahs overhaul. I would also like to know if asking for an itemized bill works to help lower the cost.
@@steelers-h7h An itemized list of prices by a hospital is going to be the top theoretical price they charge. Different insurance plans will make deals to pay some discounted rate. The amount you have to pay out of pocket is defined by the insurance plan you are on not the hospital. If you receive care and have no insurance then the hospital is getting screwed because anything they can get you to pay out of pocket will be a fraction of the total charge they were supposed to get.

ER doesn't charge by the minute. What were you there for and what tests did you get? If you are there for an actual emergency and get a lot of tests it will add up real fast.
Having hospitals publish prices does nothing and it a B.S. half measure of a half measure toward a better healthcare system. If I live in rural mississippi and I am poor, and the doctor wants $10,000 for a life saving procedure, and there are no other hospitals around to go to, how does knowing how much the surgery is goimg to cost help me?
Most Americans don't have that issue to deal with. I want the prices made visible so I can make my own decision about what I'm willing to spend. I detest dishonesty and I don't need the stress of having to pay for overpriced services. $800 for a pregnancy test? Are you serious? Under $30 at CVS!
You know it's only $10,000. A lot of people have a car they can sell for that much so they won't go into debt, bankruptcy, and end up in a worse health situation than before.

Hospitals and healthcare are free at the point of need in the UK. It's paid by taxation and run by the government. The US would call it socialist healthcare.
The healthcare system is rigged, but privatized healthcare is an incredibly stupid rule that would create more problems than it removes.

I once took a two mile ride in an ambulance. Cost $4,000. Insurance reduced it to $100 which sounds wonderful, but it also explains why my policy premium is so high.
Yep you got screwed over ambulance rides only cost $500
I am a cop, and I got injured on duty one night and they took me by ambulance a few miles. The ambulance company accidentally sent me the bill in the mail and it was $2,500. I gave it to my department and told them to figure it out, I didn't have to pay for it but damn that's a scam. After that incident, every time someone wanted to be transported while I was working, I quietly informed them that unless it's an emergency, I suggest just driving yourself or have a friend/family member drive to you to the hospital instead.

Transparency is a side issue, just as much as secrecy. The actual key issue is the lack of genuine competition, aka a free *market* where *new* competition can crop up by *free* initiative. Unregulated, as in *unhindered* , capital construction and use. Right now, you are fighting the result of "well intended" *regulation* with *new* regulation. Don't break up companies. Break up the restrictions, the fees and the incenstives, that counter economics that would normally drive all prices down over time.

I always call the collections office at the hospital and tell them if you want money from me then all your gonna get is an X amount most of the time they will agree cause they don’t want to lose out on potentially not getting nothing
Younger people still working have it worse. I pay $769 a month for insurance through my employer and I still have a $8000 deductible. If I have any issue, that's $17,228 out of pocket (Minimum - I still have copays after the deductible is met.) This rolls over each year on January 1st. That's almost 20 percent of my gross yearly wages! I would be much better off with the European single payer system - taxes are higher but healthcare is included. Still way less than US taxes plus insurance/healthcare costs plus way less stress. Americans are getting screwed.

You should see some of my hospital bills. What made it interesting is I knew they had charged me for items I did not use or need. 40 years of nursing and now a patient. It’s all corrupt.
I need to be on an advisory board …
We complain a lot about the NHS here in the UK, but hearing this stuff and reading the comments I feel for you guys.
@@bethanynorman1829 "She could have gotten here"
You do know people can pay for a private insurance in the UK as well, right? You don't HAVE to use the NHS. If you have the money, you can get private healthcare.
I am assuming she chose to use the NHS because she couldn't afford private health insurance/care.
If she couldn't pay for it over there, she def couldn't pay for it over here either.
So the real option here was 6mo in the UK.

Everthing good Trump accomplished was either ignored or minimized and libs were happy. So sad
@zollyy I don't understand those that crap on NHS. Free healthcare should be a right for everyone. Mentality of America is that YOU are a product in their eyes, to make money from. Actually that just most governments of today.

Learned from the questions, but not the answers. You can literally see in Trumps face he doesn't care nor agree about the healthcare system.
He outright lied about Biden not enforcing it. It took effect Jan 2021, and now you DO get the prices.
Trump removed federal funding to help pay for deductibles, which caused Insurance companies to skyrocket premiums for everyone to make up the difference.
Yes because Theo allowed him to lie and didn't attempt to fact check him or push back. However, I do mean proper reporters, not partisan shills like America mostly has.

Competition for healthcare? 😱 How dare we get estimates before hand.
Theo, I've always enjoyed your comedy, but for THIS, I love you. Thank you, brother.
Does the whole asking for an itemised list to knock the price down thing work at all?

@@hanslund308 he plays on the fence don’t blame him because under public eyes and fan base
I didn’t hear a single question asked in this clip….just statements. And then Trump lying about Biden getting rid of his order (which is untrue).

Interesting!
We only see the prices when given the bills
exactly, and what alot of people dont know is that you dont always have to pay it but theres so many loop holes you cant even keep up anymore. straight robbery...
Finally! Somebody who brought an issue to trump that ACTUALLY matters and made trump listen! We need more of this! I'm tired of hearing political rhetoric that doesn't matter, I want more policy talk!
There's no making him listen..he understands and listens thoughtfully

@@commonsense215 insulin prices are not reduced....can confirm 🤦🏻♂️🙄 They are higher than I've ever seen....
@@andrewbehrens1653 you must live in a red state....my aunt pays 35 a month under Biden...she paid 1000 bucks under Trump....but keep up your lies...lol

Theo is so right. You go to the hospital, all the check ups and test are fine and then BAM! a month goes by and you get the bill and it’s thousands of dollars, it is extortion especially when they turn it into debt collectors
I appreciate this interview so much, good job Theo!
Very brave of theo to be speaking to trump face to face on this issue. Can’t imagine how nerve wracking that can feel to speak to a presidential candidate about that
If you can talk to a toddler, you can talk to Trump
Planted question trump didn’t enforce that policy either. Remember that stack of papers he said was his healthcare plan then said healthcare was hard did nothing. Went golfing 😢 trumpets are easily fooled
