    Lots of good information on this video. I bought one of these a long time ago but the arrangement of one of the included valve was such that it wouldn't work properly and I never used it. Will try upgrading the valves and see if that helps. One suggestion if you don't mind....check your audio. I had to turn the volume up full in order to hear your narration but when the music started, it shook the pictures off the wall!!! Thanks again

    The biggest "Hack" with these is your air - if you hear someone say these are rubbish, won't blast, block, use too much sand, blah blah - it's their air. These need a ton of air to work well - if your air supply is good, you don't need to change anything. If you have a 200l compressor with a 3hp motor, it won't run this. Won't. Will not. Nope... If you have a smaller compressor, it won't have a hope in hell of running this - you will be frustrated & dissapointed, the results will be rubbish, it will devour a world of blast media for crap results & you WILL curse it as a P.O.S..
    These need wide-open hoses - 1/2" I.D minimum. These need dry air - very dry air. A wall-mounted $30 "air dryer" won't cut the mustard. You need to build a condensor loop - YT shows how. That will give bone-dry air. As a rough guide, you're going to need 400l of air-storage at 100 psi for that ^ to work properly. I've done it both ways for a living, this isn't "Imagination" or some-such. 200l additional storage is edge-iffy-minimum if you're running a 3hp 200l "home" compressor - this ^ will still tear the backside out of that 3hp compressor trying to keep up. Upside, the blaster will suddenly amaze you - no clogs (none) - you'll use 1/10 of the sand you were using - paint & rust will vanish at a speed you could never have imagined. You will suddenly regard this ^^ as one of your favorite tools. If you fix your air. Loads. Then some more. Another Upside - by fixing your air, all your other air-tools will also suddenly transform into what you thought they would be when you bought them - you will start enjoying using them instead of wondering wtf is wrong with this P.O.S now?? It's the air. More. More is gooder.

    • @jackbaker4133
      @jackbaker4133 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      At minimum what would you recommend for an air compressor for this blaster. I already know that a 125psi - 2hp - 8gal is not enough for the glass bead I am using with this system for pool tile cleaning. It won't push anything through the hose/tool.

    • @jamesward5721
      @jamesward5721 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jackbaker4133 I blast a lot - my set up is a 3hp 220v 200l compressor feeding its own tank & a second 200l tank off the old compressor I had that died. So 400l storage, a cooling loop (just 1/2" qualpex run up & down a wall with drains on the bottoms of the loops (for water) plus high-flow airlines. Runs the blaster no problem, but the compressor is working hard - I'm ok with that, it's what I got it to do -work. The 400l storage is key, otherwise you just don't have enough air in the system & the blaster will work rubbish. Mine works great off this system & gets an awful lot of use for what is a "DIY" set-up really. Hope that helps.

    Perfect timing I just got my 110lb pot from harbor freight today! Was already thinking about doing the ameriblaster kit. How does that kit compare to the mods you did to it in this video? Also what media do you use and how much cfm is your compressor putting out?

    • @royalcoatspowdercoating
      @royalcoatspowdercoating  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’ve never used an ameriblaster kit but I haven’t had any issues yet using this set up. I prefer the blast nozzle I’m using over his since it seems to be a lot shorter which helps out a lot in the cabinet. The ball valves I’m using are only $10 so I don’t mind replacing them when I have to which isn’t very often.
      I’m using a Quincy qt54 which puts out about 15cfm and green diamond 30/60 for media.

    • @royalcoatspowdercoating
      @royalcoatspowdercoating  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Just gave his site a quick look over. His lower manifold seems like a decent bolt on set up but my main reason to swapping everything was to have a full 1/2” from bottom of the tank to the nozzle and to ditch the lower 3/8 ball valve. And he may sell a custom hose length but I’d recommend 10’. That extra 2’ made a big difference with the things I blast. Definitely trash the hose it came with and replace it with a quality one asap. They are a lot more flexible and easier to work with.

      @@royalcoatspowdercoating appreciate it! I will be trying out this mod you did and see how this works out for me as it will probably be way cheaper than that ameriblaster kit. • @royalcoatspowdercoating
      @royalcoatspowdercoating  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Unless you have a large compressor and blast pot, most beginner blasting setups aren’t going to do much to powder. Mine will take it off but it’s slow and not worth it. I would recommend getting a chemical stripper to get the part down to bare metal before recoating. The RC-1 will definitely help with multiple coats but I suggest taking the old coating off first.

    First time on your channel. Really impressive. Most impressed with how you reply to questions. I'm new to all of this. Here's my dumb question... Did you replace/uograde with same size components (to get better quality) or did you increase the size of them, as well? What size components after the upgrade and what size hoses? Looking forward to watching more of your videos. Thanks so much!

    • @royalcoatspowdercoating
      @royalcoatspowdercoating  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks for watching!
      I replaced the ball valves with one size up to 1/2” and the necessary fittings to adapt them. I did this do better quality and to be able ti clear clogs easier if and when needed with the bigger valve. Sometimes larger pieces of media make it into a new bag from the manufacturer so this helps with that.
      I also put quick connect fittings on the air hose that T’s off from the main supply down to the media valve to be able to remove the bottom assembly easier if there’s a major clog (I’ve managed to get silicon plugs in my blast pot from recycling my media out of my cabinet without sifting it before refilling)
      The blast hose I added is the same size ID but it is a better quality hose that lasts longer and is more flexible making it easier to handle.

    Great video, I learned a few things. One thing none of the videos I have watched explain exactly how they are controlling the flow through the system. HF instructions say the abrasive valve and trigger valve should always be either full open or closed, otherwise you blow a hole in the side of the valve. Are you only controlling the flow with the throttle valve?
    I seem to get way too much media in the beginning and I can empty my 40 lb pot rather fast. I have been using the abrasive valve to try and control that which isn't right but I can't seem to get the right mix for very long. Am I just using too much pressure? Where is your throttle valve when things are working well for you? 25%, 50% 75%, 100% ?
    I'd appreciate any advise.
    Thanks

    • @royalcoatspowdercoating
      @royalcoatspowdercoating  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So the air supply valve on the back of the tank is always wide open and same with the valve at the nozzle when in use. You’ll only only want to have the nozzle valve all the way open or closed or it will wear through quickly. The media valve on the bottom of the tank is where I control the media and haven’t had any issues with wearing on that valve. I typically have that one open to probably 20-30% when I’m blasting in my cabinet at around 50psi I will have it open a little more when open air blasting at around 90psi

      @@royalcoatspowdercoating I think I will add the blaster to the bottom of my cabinet connected with 2" valve. Then I could open the valve to refill from the cabinet. Works great in my head, LOL

      Hey, got mine connected. Works great. But the dust ic crazy thick. I have the harbor freight dust collector on the back of the cabinet. Dust was not an issue befor with the cabinet. You have any issue with dust?

      I use this pot for my cabinet and for open air blasting. I left my siphon feed gun in the cabinet when I made the switch thinking I would still use it from time to time but I haven’t touched it since I made the switch. Definitely worth the purchase considering how much time is saved blasting.

      How do you use it in your cabinet?? It would seem like it wouldn't make a seal to me so I'm a little confused on that part.

    • @royalcoatspowdercoating
      @royalcoatspowdercoating  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@dieselwilson9767 I drilled a hole in the cabinet next to the original hole for the air line from the foot petal to the siphon feed gun and put a grommet in. The original set up has a small gap between the air line and grommet also so this is no different.

    Thanks for sharing this. How much CFM is you compressor pumping out and are you using the 1/8" nozzle that your link points to? What media and grit size do you use? Sorry about all the questions, but you seem to have a good system. Thanks for another informative video!

    • @royalcoatspowdercoating
      @royalcoatspowdercoating  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes I use the 1/8 nozzle. Compressor is right at 15cfm. It’s a Quincy qt54. Has no issues keeping up with the 1/8 nozzle. Actually shuts off for a good amount of time while continuous blasting on 3/8 air hose. I either need a shorter run from my compressor or bigger diameter or a combo of both. But no issues with it keeping up with the 1/8 nozzle.

    How exciting. Watching someone tape wrap a myraid of fittings rather than preinstalling and describing the process. Not much faith in those watching the videos, and it's a negative from an entertainment perspective. Had to you fast forward altogether too much to get through this video.
