@@KiIowatt It's great when you have disposable money and aren't bitter about not having any. Regardless, these are stupid things that shouldn't be bought but hey...
- Buy the game. - Buy the expansions. - Pay monthly fee. - And still pay for Store items. Not just Blizzard, many major gaming companies are trying to normalize this. They are trying to benefit from the new generations' unawareness of how games and other services worked previously, and how they were sold *(Buy it = "Own" it!),* and making it seem like it was like this all along *(Pay for it = Never own it, just Rent it! / Pay more = Buy in game stuff / Pay even more = get special treatment).* Larian's Swen made it clear with Baldur's Gate III that it wasn't always so, and it shouldn't be so either.. Like I get spending money monthly or maybe even a few cosmetics here and there if you want but $20 for a cosmetic? I'm a SWTOR sub, so I pay my monthly but I get premium currency from that so I can just buy cosmetics with that when I want to, also expansions should be free if you're a sub... WOW is crazy
Bruh, i bought 2 hentai story rpgs for 11€(roughly 14$) that i played for combined total of 50 hrs to play through the story with sex scenes being competely optional thing that you can aim for or avoid. And those 2 games still have replay value since they are rpgs and build variety is pretty good. How can people say 13.5$ is fine or acceptable for a shitty and generic cosmetic set when it has no value or bonus enjoyment to draw upon?
I will never forget how when the California lawsuit dropped, this one person was telling to the world on Twitter how she doesn't know how she could stomach to play Blizzard games ever again - and a short while later WoW released the Cat mount on the store (close the the first investor call after the lawsuit) and this same person was encouraging someone else to buy it as she did because, quote: "Do it! Its only 25$". Best part? She was a *Community Council* member. I still have the screenshots.
Blizzard is bad. Thats a fact. BUT, they are doing this because THE PLAYERS buying all this sh*t. If there would be no buyer then they wouldnt do all this shop stuff.
No no no. You don't get it. They're just having a rough patch right now. I'll spend this money on these pixels because surely Blizzard will deliver like in the good old days soon. They've just had rough patch like for the last 5 years but it will change!!!!!

WoW is a sunk cost fallacy situation combined with exceptional marketing. People have invested too much time and effort into the game, they just can't quit.
Remember. This isn't a "Buy once and you're done". This is a : Buy 60 euro expansion and pay 15 euro a month situation. This is a : Pay out the ass for server transfers and race changes situation. It's insane that they even have a cosmetics store.
Server transfers sure thats something to hard flame since Blizzard never fixed the servers properly and there is still a plethora of dead realms in all regions. Race change however has always been a thing that only the mongos did for a 1% gain in performance. And if it was "required" for Mythic because of some BS mechanic (KJ, Painsmith pre nerf, Raszageth) then these people did it with gold.
It just insane. Keep in mind that alot of game communities will go ape when a dlc that offer like 30 hours on content is around 30 bucks. Here you get 0 hours of content and some mid cosmetics on top of a sub and a base price and peoples are like "oh ok"... wow players are just dead inside.
The players will be looking back to this in the future when this costs 50 bucks and think "how lucky and spoiled we were" when they bought it for 25, "blizzard sure use to be nice" they will think.
Not even a joke. It happened with OW2, and it'll keep getting worse. I legit had a conversation with a co-worker about the game when it was relatively new, and an actual sentence he used was, "...And now they got rid of lootboxes for currency! Why couldn't they just keep those, I liked lootboxes!" And my soul nearly escaped my body! Maybe I'm just old but good LORD, it's baffling people accept this as the norm!

GW2 doesn't charge $15 a month to play the game, or make your copy irrelevant the moment they release a new expansion, and sets are still cheaper than the ones in WoW. When you spend money in GW2 it genuinely feels like donating.
Blame the idiots who are willing to pay that amount of money. Golden Pan in TF2 goes for around $5500. Same thing. It's not Valve's or Blizzard's fault there are people out there willing to spend that amount of money.
The question of legality is a complicated one. It's hard to put a pricetag on something like this in the first place. Considering it's cosmetic content, the value of it is largely subjective. It has production cost associated with it (artist's labor), but price ceiling is virtually unlimited. It's all down to what customers are willing to pay.
@@MARKHENSTROM The golden pan isn't remotely the same thing because Valve doesn't sell it; it's an ultra extreme rare reward for doing MvM, and thus the value is 100% player driven.
By the way ESO and GW2 are both free to play (ESO after a 1 time payment for the game itself). No required subscription. A game with a required subscription matching its prices to a F2P game's prices is absurd and even more absurd is that the "micro" transactions in WoW cost more than the ones in both those games and in fact cost as much or in some cases more than the expansions for ESO and GW2.
@Pb-bs3ii Well personally I don't spend any money on microtransactions in any of those games but yeah I'd rather give a developer of a free to play game $5 or $10 here or there to support the development of a game I like. That's what you do with a subscription every month in WoW. You pay that sub so they make money and use that money to develop the game. WoW being filled with microtransactions and fomo on top of a subscription is just really dumb and is doing a diservice to the player base. Used to a developer would pick one of two models. Subscription based with no microtransactions or Free to Play with microtransactions. Now we have subscription based with fomo microtransactionsons top. You don't see a problem with that? Players deserve better and we had better past.
@@RatchetandClank145 You cannot hold ESO and GW2 on the same pedestal as WoW lets be real here. Fomo over what? something that only true die hard fans would wanna buy? Big deal. I feel like people are misunderstanding what microtransactions means in this context. They're called microtransactions not because of their price but because of the amount of content you receive after you buy it.
No thats not what micro transactions are? Microtransactions are purchases that are miniscule in relation to say the game cost itself. Store mounts, battle pass etc, its not about what content you get but the payment in relation to other bigger payments. Payments that add nothing major to your gameplay essentially

Maybe it's because I'm old, but spending over 1$ for a skin is wild to me. In my youth i could get a whole expansion for a game for what those shitty skins are supposedly worth.
Why are people so mad about this? You can just not buy the items/mounts or whatever it is in store if you dont like it or you dont want to spend money whats the big problem. I get that you spend tons of money on subscriptions and expansions but the company isnt making games for fun, its their job and their main priority is to earn money like every other buisiness in the world. If noone were to buy the items they would most certainly stop making them because there would be no point, therefore people are buying them and like them, so if you dont like it dont buy it simple as that.
Yup. We are at a point where people think that a $13 microtransaction in a game that already costs you between $170-$250 a year is FAIR and they feel SPOILED by this. In 10 years they're gonna say that $100 DLC every 3 months is fair. 😮 Or better yet $0.50 per hour. 😮 "I don't see what's the problem. I spend less on a play session than a mcdonalds meal! Gacha players already normalize $200 for a character just to have the game restrict their ability to play through energy systems and give shit rewards. You can blame the casual audience for having zero self-respect for their wallets, just look how well pokemon scarlet and violet a broken game sold.
@@luckywizard_ I agree with a caveat that there are gachas like Arknights where you can get all characters by only buying a sub ($5/mo) and completing all dailies that takes about 1h/day on average. I think it's fine for a F2P game to have microtransactions. But games like Genshin, Star Rail or FGO are just too greedy and create bad rep for all mobile segment.
@@firestorm5371 i mean, I'd love to play Genshin. And I tried it (I actually first tried star rail). I quickly found that as a f2p I can only hope to get every third or fourth character with those drop rates. And I have to spend hundreds of dollars monthly if I want them all. And the really bad thing is that in Arknights for example a full potency (when you get it several times and merge copies) character is like 15% stronger than base. In Genshin and Star rail a base without weapon/artifact is like 70% weaker than all potency. So even if I spend those hundreds of dollars - what I get is trash compared to if I spend thousands. At which point I'm not interested. It's so discouraging that I'd rather not play at all. It's just P2W in the pure form. And before someone says - I KNOW that all end game content is so easy that you can beat it on a free account. But here's the thing - winning in that game is not about finishing story or beating last boss. Winning in Genshin is about having a full collection. Some f2p games are fair, others just take it too far.
Riot did the same thing with "limited edition" skins. They advertised them only available to buy for a short time then years later released all of them back into the shop to milk some more fomo as "vaulted" skins.
You can blame riven mains for that one, nobody had an issue until some morons couldn't get the championship skin and then riot immediately saw the dollar signs
I'm pretty sure the vault opens every year at certain times, and events, like halloween skins are only available at november, and you can a get lot of them on rerolls, also the way to tell if the skin is only available on vault is if it has no price and has a legacy tag, though i'm not sure about this info Edit: there was a typo (*_*)

Yeah you should move on from WoW, maybe watch some YT streamer or something. If you need a MMORPG to play there are many options out there that are less cheaper. Iam recommending FF14, ESO and GW2. FF14 (have to pay sub, but base game+ 1st expac is free, you are getting the best in the business, the base game is 1.5 game in 1, then the expac for 2 games worth of content. FF14 has actually a very good story & hillarious joke storylines as well, there are raids, there are some solo hard stuff to do, jumping puzzles etc. And a really nice community, the opposite of WoW). FF14 is the game if you miss WoW the most, because it is huge like WoW is with some extra stuff in it (like the Gold Saucer, a mini-game fiesta) ESO is is basically Elder Scrolls in an MMORPG setting, but the content is not that hard, except for the hardest tier (it resembles the WoW Mythic+ tier BS). So it is basically chill solo play for the most part, but then it somewhat defeats the purpose of the MMORPG setting. Not really a weakness. Also have to take care with the store, some murky territory what you own/what you dont. So basically you want an Elder Scrolls-lite experience, but in multiple provinces/expansions, then ESO is your game. GW2 is also chill game, but not as chill as ESO. There are 5man dungeons, roguelike dungeons (the Fractals, very cool concept, basically various dungeon rooms from GW's history) & raids as well. Ofcourse jumping puzzles, GW is famous for that. The only problem with GW2 is that most players are obviously in the latest content (so finding people for some dungeons might take a while) & some story episodes have been lost in time. No need to buy anything in the game, its very fair. Overall the game is in really good health, it got its 4th expac in May 2023 & is regularly update with story content.
Lootboxes clash with Belgium at least. And the EU is considering banning them overall. And if the EU banns them then you're pretty much safe in the US as well since Blizzard is too lazy to implement a system that only works in 1 region.
@@Surtr174 well it didi't pose a problem for Blizzard with Overwatch and Diablo Immortal. They made a dedicated version for Belgium without the lootbexes.
@@Surtr174 EU is far behind with that. Belgium lootbox ban is just optics. If the 'lootboxes' arent tradeable, there are no restrictions (example LoL chests). The whole world should just copy the Chinese/Japanese laws (who have been dealing with this for over 10-15 years) and then upgrade on them.
Watching thirty something gamers complain about retail makes me think of those high school jocks who can't stop talking about that one "big game." Guess that's why they love classic; can pretend to be a winner again.
Never forget that 'fomo' is a prelude to a scam. If you ever get that feeling, which we all do, sit back and reevaluate whether it's worth it or not. Hint: It's never worth it!
"Never forget that 'fomo' is a prelude to a scam." So a self-inflicted obsession is a scam on the companys part? Really? If you're willing to pay for something and you agree to the terms and the terms are uphold, its not a scam -_-
Dont lose hope, yall. One day, photorealistic triple aaa booty graphics will become so easy to implement, they will essentially become default graphics. This will lead to small but passionate game devs, who dont care about microtransactions, to make quality games, but now that can now easily compete for the majorty gamer market, with big triple aaa--no, quadruple aaaa game studios. And these good booty graphics games will replace the soulless expensive mtx booty graphics games.
I cannot believe how anyone can justify this shit. You have to pay full price for each expansion, you have to pay just to play the game THAT YOU ALREADY BOUGHT BTW, then on top of that there are Macrotransactions. These aren't Micro, $20 is Macro. Micro is like $1-$10, this is fucking insane. It's so depressing to see how greedy and consumer unfriendly Blizzard has become...
It's very easy to justify. It's free money for the devs at none of the downside. If you like it - buy it. If you don't like it - don't buy it. If you like it, but don't wanna spend real money, buy it with gold. Granted, the last part only works for WoW, but it does work, you can buy any store item with gold.
More likely they see the success of Fortnite (1 billion $ per 5 months, at the height of its power) and see why not us as well? Realistically Blizzard is getting pressured from Activision to delive, and those MTs are the easiest, laziest stuff they can do.

Its one of the biggest reasons i stopped playing retail wow. I already hate FOMO so much in games it makes me literally avoid a game even if its good, Destiny was one of the games i enjoyed a lot back then but they kept adding more and more fomo to the point that even the content itself was just fomo and i never looked back at the game once. Even though trade post is a pretty cool idea it already bothers me that if i decided not to play for that month high chances are i will not be able to get the monthly reward. this game is basically a f2p game that you are paying for instead. I liked wow before because it wasnt a f2p game and was treated as a subscription game
YEah i also moved on from Destiny. But hey if you remiss D2 for a bit, then on April 9 they have a special event with various D2 legendary weapons (example Mountaintop, F.Guillotine, Succession, Luna's Howl, 2 Black Armory guns, Forbearance, even the D1 Stranger's Rifle get reintroduced with their old famous perks and some banger perks). They even have a chest with items that will bring you up to current light power (not pinnacle). You can play it for a bit to remiss the 'good old D2 days' then watch the Final Shape from some YTber/streamer.
2:05 Ye and games like GW2 exclusively finance themselves via cosmetics like that, not a subscription model in this day & age... ( which btw look 100x better than any custom stuff Blizzard has released yet lmao )
Because there's some other people who think "COSMETIC MICROTRANSACTIONS DO NOT INTERFERE WITH THE GAME AND ITS OPTIONAL!" Yeah were it a free game like Warframe, sure. You can even farm platinum and not spend a dime there. Like Asmon said you already paid subscriptions 1:08 for free (maybe some.) Or like Helldivers 2 where you spend some big money, the cosmetics are farmable and optional.
Blizzard are sick to the core. And yeah - you would have thought that after all these years enough is enough, but they just keep going and show no shame for it. Fuck me, I could never do what you do; behave so disgustingly and still be able to stand before the camera and say whatever I was going to say to my audience/fans. DOWN WITH BLIZZARD-FUCKING-ENTERTAINTMENT!
Meanwhile in FFXIV:"Hey you've been a player for 3 months, so here is this cool looking armour from a main character of our franchise for free! Thanks for playing our game, we love you!"
sadly it isnt the case anymore. They didnt put any new veteran items in and almost all the other main/ npc character outfits has been put in the store like in WoW
Next step is to break transmog sets into pieces and sell them individually for each slot. They should call it an ELITE PREMIUM ARMOR OF PROVEN LOYALTY and say its only available for hand picked customers as a one time purchase.
Meanwhile Helldivers 2: you pay 40$, you can get battlepasses and everything for free just playing the game with reasonable time investment. No battlepass is taken away too! 20$ for a skin....for a monthly paid game....
Certa vez você disse:"Os jogadores do Wow gostam de comer merda". Essa frase NUNCA deixará de ser verdade e atual e sinceramente, eles merecem cada pedaço.😂😂😂😂😂
Why are they even allowed to call these micro transactions at this point? They should implement a policy that says micro transactions have a limit on the value say up to $10. $20 is a macro transaction.
Guild wars 2 does that every few weeks they make some things available and others leave the store but it allways comes back sometime after. But its mostly cosmetics anyway so most people dont care but for those that convert hard earned ingame gold to gems its probably a bit unfair sometimes
Another annoying factor of this is how some of these transmogs or items have been asked for before. I remember people wanting Dreadlord armour MANY years ago. "Hey, we finally made that set you guys wanted! What dungeon is it from? It drops from TBS!"
Who cares? The dreadwake showing up on the traders post tells me that if you ignore the FOMO long enough Blizz will get desperate & put that shit in the game. It's too late to make this shit go away Pandora's lootbox was opened up decades ago & no amount of bitching is going to close it.
they add 1 thing point out where it will lead people curse you out for "slippery slope fallacy" slippery slope happens just as you said it, just as it happens time and time again in everything same people who cursed you, now curse you out again for saying you were right
Rather see them make store items be part of an in game event or from a vender over being part of the shop. Could make them exclusive to the black market auction house as a gold sink. Maybe even tie them to the 6 month sub as a bonus like they have done for a while with select items.
Every MMO is doing this… RuneScape. Star Wars online. Elder scrolls online. New world. Final Fantasy online. And basically every single other one as well.
They could switch to a similar model as ESO. Game is B2P. There are microtransactions and you can buy DLC (WoW: patches) with real money, or pay a monthly subscription that gives access to DLC and gives store currency worth nearly the whole subscription amount to spend in the in-game store. Now WoW requires you to buy the game, expansion, pay monthly AND there are things you can only get by paying more... ESO at least lets you save up the currency and buy something from the store when there's something you like.
Wont be long before they start selling mounts and pets that you can only get from time limited events or special achievements. No longer do you need to do one dungeon repeatedly hoping to get that one mount drop, you can just pay a little over 60 bucks to get one from the shop. The excuse would be the players are now working class they dont have time to farm anymore so they should be able to pay for convenience.
Just think about this folks. It's been theorized WoW is at a 7 million player subs at the moment. That's 105 MILLION a month. That's 1.26 BILLION a year. Just from active subs. And the game STILL has "micro-transactions".
Look, inflation is rough out there. The people on the board of directors at Epic need to eat too.. You think they can survive on a couple billion? Those microtransactions are so their kids can afford to eat! lol!!!
all microtransations in a subscription based game and expansion payment game should either be under $12 a set. or should be obtainable for free ingame be it via grinding or rare drops.
the fact people think $14 for a cosmetic armor piece in a 20 year old mmo is acceptable is actually insane
The fact that people still play WoW and fund these greedy developers in 2024 is actually insane.

Pay more = Buy in game stuff / Pay even more = get special treatment).*
Larian's Swen made it clear with Baldur's Gate III that it wasn't always so, and it shouldn't be so either.. But doubt Swen's voice alone will be enough to educate the masses, especially when it comes to blind consumerism..
Younger generations will parse all that very easily from the moment they start paying with their own hard earned money.
You can add one more to your list:

$20 for an armor piece should actually be illegal. Like by law. It's disgusting. That's 1/3 of a full AAA game for a single armor set.

Store mounts, battle pass etc, its not about what content you get but the payment in relation to other bigger payments. Payments that add nothing major to your gameplay essentially

@@firestorm5371 i mean, I'd love to play Genshin. And I tried it (I actually first tried star rail).

FF14 is the game if you miss WoW the most, because it is huge like WoW is with some extra stuff in it (like the Gold Saucer, a mini-game fiesta)
ESO is is basically Elder Scrolls in an MMORPG setting, but the content is not that hard, except for the hardest tier (it resembles the WoW Mythic+ tier BS).

@@Surtr174 well it didi't pose a problem for Blizzard with Overwatch and Diablo Immortal. They made a dedicated version for Belgium without the lootbexes.

It's very easy to justify. It's free money for the devs at none of the downside. If you like it - buy it. If you don't like it - don't buy it. If you like it, but don't wanna spend real money, buy it with gold. Granted, the last part only works for WoW, but it does work, you can buy any store item with gold.

@@pjrotsaert2832 no, that's cope from the anti-retail circle jerk. you can very easily check server populations. Retail is the majority of players. I understand that Asmon fans don't want that to be true though.
2:03 TBH GW2 has no monthly fee... & a veteran player can easily change gold into gems (cash currency) to buy Mogs from the Cash Shop. But then again, u don't have a monthly fee. Thats how that game makes money besides the cheap-ass expansions...
They don't have extra currency in the shop. Pure $20
Don't give them ideas.
Maybe they just didn't notice yet...
You would have to buy the 30$ gem pack...
That's like patting them on the back for drowning someone rather than putting them in a brazen bull. It's still really bad.
Because there's some other people who think "COSMETIC MICROTRANSACTIONS DO NOT INTERFERE WITH THE GAME AND ITS OPTIONAL!"
Yeah were it a free game like Warframe, sure. You can even farm platinum and not spend a dime there. Like Asmon said you already paid subscriptions 1:08 for free (maybe some.)
Or like Helldivers 2 where you spend some big money, the cosmetics are farmable and optional.
Agree they are the worst of the worst, actually no Microsoft is #1 ESG trash company. A match made in heaven (hell). Fuck these demons 😅
It's gonna be in the Trading Post, if that helps.
Wow gives you lots of free stuff with the trading post every month what are you talking about? FF is a trash game they better give you free shit 😂
@@Bilal.I Yeah. Too much stuff in the FFXIV store. I agree with you on that.
Next step is to break transmog sets into pieces and sell them individually for each slot. They should call it an ELITE PREMIUM ARMOR OF PROVEN LOYALTY and say its only available for hand picked customers as a one time purchase.
Don’t give them ideas
Or do, i honestly don’t care anymore at this point
more like Mega-Transactions
Meanwhile Helldivers 2: you pay 40$, you can get battlepasses and everything for free just playing the game with reasonable time investment. No battlepass is taken away too! 20$ for a skin....for a monthly paid game....
The "Store" within xDDD
“The Store Within” lmao hilarious
Certa vez você disse:"Os jogadores do Wow gostam de comer merda". Essa frase NUNCA deixará de ser verdade e atual e sinceramente, eles merecem cada pedaço.😂😂😂😂😂
I think the frog has officially been boiled, Blizzard knew it was only a matter of time before people became complacent with it
"Would you like shit for 25$ or shit for 12$"
"Give me shit for 12$, it's the better deal"
if you think 3.50 is fair for some digital armour you should not say the price of a house is unfair.
People will do any kind of complaining but then not ever stop playing, which would actually force blizz to change.
Another annoying factor of this is how some of these transmogs or items have been asked for before. I remember people wanting Dreadlord armour MANY years ago.
"Hey, we finally made that set you guys wanted! What dungeon is it from? It drops from TBS!"
When you hear stuff like "fair" and "spoilt" , it is over ... they won
Who cares? The dreadwake showing up on the traders post tells me that if you ignore the FOMO long enough Blizz will get desperate & put that shit in the game. It's too late to make this shit go away Pandora's lootbox was opened up decades ago & no amount of bitching is going to close it.
they add 1 thing
point out where it will lead
people curse you out for "slippery slope fallacy"
slippery slope happens just as you said it, just as it happens time and time again in everything
same people who cursed you, now curse you out again for saying you were right
Tbh in guild wars 2 you can get any cosmetic with ingame gold conversion to gems, only the expansions are only with money.
The Murkomorpher toy is awesome.
It makes waiting on my bought carry raid getting started so much more fun :P
Rather see them make store items be part of an in game event or from a vender over being part of the shop. Could make them exclusive to the black market auction house as a gold sink. Maybe even tie them to the 6 month sub as a bonus like they have done for a while with select items.
Every MMO is doing this…
RuneScape.
It's extra funny when it doesn't even look good
Friends don't let friends play Blizzard games. (Or any game with predatory micro-transactions).
Big true. I showed my friends alot of good indie games and I think only one still actively plays wow (classic)
This is like watching your best friends corpse being reanimated over and over. It hurts man.
I barely played it but in FF XIV you get transmogs based on months of subscription, basically rewarding your fidelty.
The moment you need a scroll wheel for the microtransaction shop you know its over.
