I’m glad you are still here. My husband of 35 years died by suicide last summer and it was devastating to me and our children and others. Suicide is definitely not a solitary endeavor just as you said- it affects so many people. My husband suffered from depression ever since I knew him but would never acknowledge it. We MUST talk about this because it is time.to stop the shame surrounding suicide. I and my family miss my husband everyday. I’ve lost a few friends too due to his death by suicide - I’m just not willing to put up with unkind and stupid people after this. Thank you for talking about your experience.

Her story moved me deeply. I can connect to it since I myself attempted 4 times to commit suicide. It's just pure luck, that I'm not in a wheelchair today after one of the suicide attempts almost brought me there. By conincidence I met later a girl in the house, where I lived that also lost her two legs because she jumped in front of a train. Maybe it's true that only those, who have been in the same situation, really understand how painful mental illness is and how it can drive one into absolut desperation.
The attempts lie now 18 years in the past, I'm still dependent on medication every day but I managed to build up a life, an career as painter and photographer in Berlin. But still struggling ones in a while with dark thougts, could be that I have to live with it till the rest of my life.
But since approximately 5 percent of the population is suffering from depression worldwide those who survived suicide can help others to cope with the issue.
So thank you for the documentary, it really helps a lot to hear the story of others, who are suffering from the same illness.

I've just came across info that actor Joe Pantoliano wrote a book on his clinical depression and that he is a mental health advocate - I've never heard of it before, I just liked him for Cypher role, and all I was looking for now was whether he is or isn't that taxi driver shouting at Shatner for jaywalking in The Voyage Home...
I think this girl Lauren should write a book, I wish her all the happiness in the world, she is one strong suicide attempt survivor and one mighty strong life survivor
because, god of whichever religion help us, life is not a picnic for some of us
