"How does Jimmy do that all night?" Jimmy is creating the distortion in his sound further up the throat; above the true vocal folds, which allows him to create the sound in a healthy way that doesn't damage the actual vocal folds. This is basically how metal singers also produce distorted sounds sustainably. For more detailed treatment of this, explore The Charismatic Voice channel. Elizabeth has really dived into research on how distorted vocals are created sustainably, including studies using cameras down the throat. She has a series of videos on the subject.
I believe that was the 3rd encore after a 3 hour set. The Last Stand tour was Chisel's first long goodbye, the entire concert was like that from start to finish.
All members of Cold Chisel knew the band was bigger than the individuals. They respected each other and it shows. Like any band there were tensions but this clip is a great illustration: notice how when Jimmy has finished it's Ian who leads the band and they end on his cues, and that's a common theme in their performances.
Phenomenal band.. went to the US and were treated badly by music executives came home and wrote a “f*ck you song to the music executives called “you’ve got nothing I want” Some of my favourite songs include “Choir girl” “Saturday night” “Breakfast at sweetheart’s” “Khe Sahn” “Cheap wine” “Forever now”
It was a complicated relationship at times with 5 incredibly creative musicians. I think it was best described by Ian Moss when they reformed and after playing their first gig back - 'After one song we wondered why we ever broke up, by the end of the gig we wondered why we ever got back together'.
Jimmy clearly loves Mossy to bits -- still -- and he is very demonstrably affectionate towards him when they are playing together. He often plants one on him on stage. So yeah, their friendship seems to be going strong 50 years after they met. 😁
They had their issues but always reunited periodically. Jimmy and the drummer Steve had their issues but they are still singing so that tells you enough, I think
G'day mate, Jimmy explained in a interview how he can do that all night without damaging his voice and it centred around him having a camera put down his throat. I can't remember the details but there was something unique about his vocal chords. I truly hope you can successfully search for that interview because I believe you will find it fascinating. I'm sorry I'm not more help in that regard. And yes, they are all still friends and are going to be doing gigs celebrating 50 years. Loved the reaction, take care
Nothing unique per se about his cords, but he has mastered the art of using his false vocal folds . All singers use their false cords and while Jimmy’s cords are physically no different, some singers especially gospel and heavy metal singers - and Jimmy- have perfected the art. This not only helps to protect your primary cords, it also helps produce some great sound!
@@Dr_KAPapparently he uses his second set of vocal chords and according to doc will never lose his voice. He has a very raw strong voice that only a band like Chisel could accommodate … Jimmy laughs when talking about how he was devastated being evicted from the school gospel choir cause he was too loud. 😆😆. Pissed as a nute = bottles of vodka every performance… that’s Jimmy😍 Yes they still and will always remain friends and currently on tour for their 50th Anniversary of rocking Aussie Pubs. I’m there already with bells on!!! Can’t wait.. Unfortunately we lost Steve ( drummer) quite a few years ago but all other band members will be there. There will never be a better a better version of this song.. COLD CHISEL ARE THE WILD THING!!!
@@kazmungovan117 everyone uses their false cords when they sing, even you and I use them otherwise we would choke. However your false cords don’t make any sound, it’s more about pushing air up through the main cords and protecting them from strain. Jimmy does use his false cords well (cords not chords 😉), it’s a technique mastered by many metal and gospel singers but yes only the most amateur beginner singer would sing without them. P.s. doctor here too ❤️ please check out my Steve P tributes which have been endorsed by his family as well as Jimmy himself!
You should check out the live concert of Cold Chisel at Rockpalast in Germany in 1982 with the boys doing "Goodbye (Astrid Goodbye)" - th-cam.com/video/7SKIvq6i96g/w-d-xo.html. It's one of their best head-banging tracks, with Jimmy again finishing the set with a bottle in his hand as he walks off the stage.
Their friendships lasted but there were rifts back in those days, I think mostly between Jimmy and Steve, the drummer. I'm not saying that lead to the breakup, but they didn't always see eye to eye. Hard touring, hard rocking, plenty of alcohol, some swinging arms is not surprising. Disagreements, yes. Friendship destroying, no.
I’m a professional camera operator and can tell you that Jimmy Barnes is a very correct, punctual individual now. Very nice man, but don’t fuck up on his watch.
No nasty break up. They are still a tight nit group and trying to do a 50 yr tour but Jimmy Barnes has had to delay as he has had surgery. Jimmy Barnes is now in his late 60’s. I was 5 yrs old when this concert was on. I’m 46 now 😂😂😂😂

I was at this concert, December '83 at the Hordern Pavilion in Sydney, seriously one of the best nights of my entire life..

Two weeks an Im off to their 50 year celebration tour soo looking forward to it😂😂❤🎉
I went 8 Oct. You are in for a treat.
I saw them on 19th October 2024. My goodness, they were brilliant, just like I knew they’d be.
Yep. Me too. I'm going to Ballarat show this Saturday and Melbourne at the music bowl in 2 weeks.
Thanks for introducing me to this band! 🙏Subbed.

The expression is pissed as a newt 😂 (drunk as you can be on 2 legs) and with Jimmy that covers most of the 70's 80's and into the 90's.

They could have been a worldwide sensation with the right breaks, but then we in Oz wouldn't have been blessed with being able to see them so often.
I was there, as good as it gets
They had their issues but always reunited periodically. Jimmy and the drummer Steve had their issues but they are still singing so that tells you enough, I think
Always their last encore in all the shows I saw. Jimmy was hammered by this time...and never missed a beat.
Best version ever!
i thought the expression was pissed as a newt ! And he was! LOL!

Like Bon Scott.. Or Brian Johnson..... Scottish heritage , statistically , proves , Its just meant to be.

Can't agree

I wish I knew! Very frustrating.
