your mentality when it comes to anti rocker on aggressive skate is exactly why I aggressive skate the way I do, I basically only do grinds right now because thats basically all I'm interested in lol some say this is short sighted and holding me back, I wouldn't disagree but I just wanna do grinds, so thats what I'm doing

yeah. you right. The fun thing about antirocker, is maxing out the wheel size. so all these skates coming out with an already hollowed wheel well is cool. I love anti rocker, really can't tell me different when it comes to that. cuz people that hate on anti, don't grab their tricks, and don't stay fakie, and can't do cool combos anymore for some weird reason. I wish I could skate caveman, but something about those little wheels grabbing. I can't not have them in. much love y'all.

First Todd with the Cults and now this....! Not gonna lie I am actually pretty excited by these developments haha 😆 I grew up on your pre-wizard grinderblader vids (although the wizard DNA was always in there somewhere!) and still watch them frequently to this day.
I remember sending you an email Joey, many years ago on MySpace, asking for tips on filming, editing, skating etc, not expecting a reply, but you sent back this huge, amazing, incredibly thoughful reply with loads of really great advice, and it absolutely made my whole year 💖 I wish I still had the message haha... but one of the things I remember you saying was about how skating flat will change your whole perspective on rollerblading (or something to that effect) and it stuck with me... I bought some Salomons, started skating flat and had some of the best years of my life on them 😌
It was just so against the grain back in those antirocker MySpace days haha... And now I feel like it's all coming round full circle, one or two decades later, and I'm still absolutely here for it 😁
Looking forward to the release of "Better than Bigwheel(?!)" 😂 Take care dude.

I use my Oysi mediums with harder wheels in the middle, sounds totally wrong but it somehow works to give me a bit of both worlds. Less wheel bite but maintains the turn on a dime feeling I like. I do totally agree though, there is no substitute for anti-rocker with it comes h-block tricks. Greetings from the UK

Medium Oysi are my go to frames, it's the best of both worlds for me. Whenever I try go and back to anti I instantly regret it 😆And I am more of a grinderblader than a swivelly bopper

I think my favorite jump on slide down game is kinked rails and my jump on slide across game are C ledges. I also a think something worth talking about is that moment of transition when you are able to put down the grind game and fully jump in to fully finding the joy in just big wheel rolling and all of the games there. Reverse engineer the agressive inline skater and find yourself just rollerblading around neighborhoods

You’re gonna blow minds with this one. You were a big influence in everyone going to flat. But you’re right, AB never switched and look at him go.
I was getting flustered during the video but it all makes sense. I’m glad you addresses Aeons. I’m using them now but I’m gonna put together an anti setup now after watching the video.

  • @Johnnysthunder

This is why I don’t really feel like an aggressive skater but rather a rec/wizard or “urban” skater that likes to do some grinds and jam around on 65 or smaller size wheels from time to time. To me flowing between objects in the park and skating transition and banks and stuff is the core of my skating and I’d much rather trade flex or soul plate size and never do royal/farvs or topside tricks, for support and responsiveness than loose them for grind ability. I love doing pose slides haha but I don’t rollerblade to grind, but rather to rollerblade around haha. To each their own and I totally get where you’re coming from, but I just love the feeling of skating around the city and park on small wheels sometimes.

As much as I suck at grinds.
I can’t do anti. And I want to.
It’s the pain I get in my low back landing not on flat/rockered.
If my upper body and lower don’t agree it takes me out.
Riding rockered aggressive has made aggressive approachable for me again.

Being able to switch between rockered and anti set ups so easily is impressive, and a skill in itself. Every time I try and go back to anti it feels awful, like I am having to relearn how to simply skate around. 😅

I wonder if it is worth switching specialized setups for pure "jump on grind down" sessions, instead of sticking to an all-purpose setup until your body adapts to it. Switching back and forth between flat and anti feels quite awful, and for pros it is probably impossible. It enhances all the shortcomings of both and adjusting takes so much time. The Kelsos (of course) but also most of the Mesmer team seem to be riding flat, besides Billy... not sure why. But spending every single day approaching and leaving obstacles with this goofy feeling of anti, that must be difficult when you have experienced how more enjoyable it is with flat (and even if other boots are better for that). But I have seen your cool flat ground moves in anti, so maybe for you it doesn't matter anymore.

What's interesting is just how good people are getting at grinding in flat set ups. The skill of grinding ledges in flat by the likes SK, Ryan Parker etc is incredible. And I doubt their landings and roll away would look so smooth if they were in anti.

I don't know how I actually feel about this. I really like the Oysi frames for everything I do right now and it's worked for me the last couple years. Before that, I have been on anti-rocker for almost all of my time rollerblading. I have dabbled with going back to anti but it's never felt good since going flat.
