In this episode of Adventures with Purpose, we are truly humbled in meeting Christine Simmons to help her search for her husband Bill Simmons.
Just a few days later, they would have been celebrating their 24-year Anniversary.
Originally contacted by Christine a few months ago, we couldn't dedicate time to make the trip from Oregon immediately.
Bill left his home early one morning around 1:30 am in June.
It is believed Bill drove their Gold Toyota Camry to the river.
Life had recently hit Bill with the 1-year anniversary of the passing of his mother, along with being forced into retirement due to medical conditions.
Bill Simmons was a proud man who loved his wife and granddaughter.
Day 1 searching resulted in the Adventures With Purpose team locating 17 vehicles underwater in the Cumberland River in Nashville, Tennesse.
Unfortunately, Day 1 of searching did not allow us to find and recover Bill.
Our search continues on Day 2.
This is a difficult time for his family and we'll continue our search to bring Bill home.
    #scubadiving #foundcar #missingperson
Thank you to all the volunteers who came out in support of our search efforts by keeping us fed and helping with gear.
Hug the ones you love and reach out to those in need.
We are humbled and thankful for this opportunity and experience to help bring resolution for Christine and her family.

I can personally relate to this man's state of mind. I destroyed my back in August of 2000 in a construction accidental fall. By November I was forced to quit the trade. By January of 2001 we had lost everything but the motorcycle... nice car, boat, pickup, nice apartment. I was 27 years old, just married, still trying to work, steadily losing more and more use of my legs due to nerve damage. I hit rock bottom in January of 2002, and shot a hole in the roof as my wife ripped the rifle out from under my chin.
Losing everything you have worked for is HARD... your career becomes your life...
I thank God for my wife. We've got 21 years together now. Between her and our now 8 year old daughter, I have more to live for than ever before.
Disability sucks, but it's better than the alternative. Dead leaves too much wreckage behind.

THANK YOU, EVERYONE, FOR THE KIND WORDS.
Bill was a very loving, caring and supportive person. He always tried his best and gave it his all. From the time I was a kid til I grew into a young woman, he was the same person through and through. He loved playing golf, listening to rock and roll and spending time with his family. He was the best uncle in the whole world. My sister and I used to ask our cousin if we could trade dads, as to which she would reply, heck no! I have the best daddy in the world!!!... He loved Bug (granddaughter) with his whole heart! He would light up just by her mere presence. He adores my Aunt and would do anything for her. . . In his own way, he thought he was relieving us from the burden he had created in his own mind. He would never mean to cause us any pain.
This boat ramp, has been around since him and his siblings grew up. He swam across the river as a kid. He took us there as kids. Its just a common place known to our family.
He didn't talk of suicide. He wasn't the type to act off emotions or make rash decisions. He had the same job for over 30 years. He had the same wife for over 20+ years. Lived in the same house for 20+ years. He was a man of consistency. He didn't have any addiction problems. He didn't have anger problems. He was simply in too much pain.
I can only assume, he choose the date of June, 15 due to it being the anniversary of his mother's passing. He was a mommy's boy through and through. He would literally go to her house EVERY OTHER DAY for the last 15+ years. Our family was always together. We had family dinner night on a weekly basis. He has gone home, to be with his mother. Please, Keep our family in your prayers for the 15th day of June is by far the hardest day of the year two fold.
    I LOVE YOU UNCLE BILL

I had a very traumatic experience almost 8 years ago. My 4 friends and I were swept off a flooded low water bridge at night. I was missing 6 or 7 hours before the search and rescue team located me, they didn't expect any of us to make it, or be be found alive. By God's grace all of us walked away from the accident. I've been scared of water since then, but watching these videos makes me want to get my scuba certification. Luckily it is offered close to my home town. Same I feel the same too with chronic illness. It was hard and I had to fight for it and for my life at the same time. It’s a hard road to live in chronic pain but I know my boy needs me I have had bad thoughts in my worst times in a hospital beds cut open and in pain. It’s no fun. I hope he is at peace. You’re not a burden if you’re on it for the right reasons and need it. Pride yes. But survival most. It’s there for things such as this. We never asked to be disabled but it was given to us. So we have to make the best of it. Help and relate to others. 💜

To hear this guys mental pain before he left is heartbreaking. Everyone is denied disability once. I myself don't have it yet. Mental health is a big deal when your physical body doesn't function like it used to. I talk to a therapist every two weeks and have had to call 24 hour counselors in between. What worries me though, even though he was in pain and couldn't drive very far -- I still really think that his favorite spot should be considered. IF he woke up that morning with the mindset to go into the water or whatnot, he couldn't dealt with the pain long enough to get to his favorite spot. I hope that area isn't counted out. We had just had a total loss house fire 3 months earlier and I was dealing with replacing all birth certificates, s.s. Cards, I.D. Work badges, driver’s license were the worst! You have to have your birthday certificate or ss card, a form of photo I.D., mail with your correct name and address as it appears in their system (etc.) S.S. Birth certificate and an official photo I.D., my husband was born in the far south end of Kentucky and his birth certificate was long in actually gathering documentation to send or fax to the court records building since we were needing the ACTUAL, no photocopy allowed anywhere, birth certificate for the two major pieces of I.D. to get at. Awesome cop, heard you were around, came to help. Right attitude, right approach. Civility costs nothing, but goes an awful long way.

There's a few places in Northeast Oklahoma like that. Dozens of cars all over the place. Grand Lake and all those rivers and creeks just have tons in them.

I just love watching you two try to help families find there loved ones. Praying for all of your safety and for a closure for this poor lady and her family. I have been out of work since 9/24 dealing with back pain, neuropathy etc. It breaks my heart to see that people end their lives. I have been very depressed and have thought crazy thoughts. I feel medical providers just try doing patch work and everytime pain comes back its 10x's worse. Funny thing is i origanally hurt myself at work but did not file work comp because i tried chiropractic, accupunctre, physical therapy. Now 15yrs after starting treatment my L1 thru L5 is deteriorating. I have worked for my emploer in healthcare 29yrs and feel like 1 wrong move and no job. Prayers and god's blessings to all as nobody really wants to end life in pain in disabilty. Total freedom is gone!!
